Rising Monk V3c59

Volume 3 Chapter 59 Before Leaving Châtillon I

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Two carriages stopped in front of the main gate of Châtillon Fortress.

From here, Kian, Natra, and Rufna would go to meet Guy, while Priscilla and Sarah would head to Priscilla’s magic workshop.

As the huge wooden gate creaked shut, Kian got out of the carriage and walked toward the white stone ramp in front of him.

 ”Kian!”

 ”Sarah, is something wrong?”

Turning at the sound of her voice, he saw a beautiful brown-skinned woman in a flowing dress styled in a Western fashion.

Her bangs were parted, revealing her forehead, and her long hair fell down her back, with part of it braided to keep it from getting too messy.

Kian was momentarily speechless, while Sarah smiled gently and said, “I just have a quick question, if that’s okay?”

 ”Of course.”

”Um… if possible, I’d like to talk somewhere Natra and Rufna can’t hear us, just the two of us.”

 ”Got it. Natra, stay back.”

 ”────”

Natra lightly bowed her head, keeping her hand on the hilt of her sword, and stepped away.

After confirming that her sister, who looked just like her, had gone halfway up the white ramp with the sea breeze blowing, Sarah took a step closer to Kian.

”Is it true that my father is really dead?”

 ”You don’t believe it?”

”No. I also heard that Nakash has fallen. I plan to ask some passersby about it, but I can’t be sure the information isn’t manipulated.”

”Hmm… I didn’t see Shajar being killed myself. But once you failed your mission, the fall of the Nakash family was certain. If they just had to eliminate Shajar, the change in the Twelve Divine Generals was expected.”

”…Right. It seems all the elite warrior monks were killed, and without Natra and me, I can’t believe Nakash could have survived. But… I still can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it.”

”I completely understand how you feel.”

”Thank you. Kian seems stronger now, but inside, you haven’t changed at all. You’re still kind and honest…”

”I’m honored that you think of me that way.”

”Do you know anything about the movements of the remnants of the Azraelian People’s Army?”

”I’m sorry. But those guys have lost too much reputation to be useful. It’s better not to get involved with them.”

 ”I see…”

When Sarah frowned, a loud voice from Priscilla called out from the path beside the marble slope.

The white-haired witch, who had gotten off the carriage behind them, seemed to be about 2-tenths down the slope leading to Kian’s workshop.

Kian and Sarah turned around, and the sea breeze from beyond the horizon gently swayed Sarah’s long hair.

”Sarah, it seems you are being called.”

”Yes. I think Ms. Priscilla will check on me, and if everything is fine, I will visit your place. If you have any quests or information to share, please let me know. Um, I know it’s a bit selfish, but with Natra and Rufna… if they look different but are not, I can’t help but feel awkward talking to them, so I will probably ask you about plans.”

”That makes sense. Don’t worry, I will be a good buffer, and as your leader, I will communicate the necessary details. If you have any questions while being an Adventurer, feel free to ask me. I will answer your doubts as much as I can.”

”Thank you. I really rely on you. Just like my former fiancé… just kidding.”

”Well… we both seem to have no romantic feelings, but I think it’s too early for jokes like that. We should wait until… our past relationship is truly faded.”

”Y-Yeah, you’re right. I’m sorry. I thought I might have slipped a bit after saying that. Until our past relationship really fades, it will just make things awkward for both of us…”

”While merging with the Wraith and losing your sense of self, you must have seen the past like a dream, right? How did it feel?”

”It’s so… difficult. It’s like lying on my back in lukewarm water. I remember images from the past floating and sinking without any context.”

 ”I see.”

(She didn’t seem to remember the time I taught young her about sex education, or what happened afterward. I felt it would be embarrassing if she thought I was a pervert… This was a relief.)

 Priscilla’s voice echoed again.

Sarah shouted back, “I’m sorry!” and backed away from Kian.

 ”Um, just one last thing.”

 ”What is it?”

”I heard from Lady Priscilla that we’ll be heading to the Izerland fortress next, right?”

”Yeah. But only after you’re feeling better. We need to set up an appointment to open the teleportation gate, and we also have to pick up weapons from Sir Guy.”

”Is it okay to take this long just to check on Oswald?”

”──Did I let it slip somewhere that I’m going to see Oswald?”

”Ms. Priscilla mentioned it. She said we’re going to meet Lord Oswald. She didn’t tell me why… but isn’t there something urgent about him?”

 ”……”

(She is sharp. And this is a tough question to answer.)

He couldn’t tell what Sarah was thinking.

He didn’t want her to suspect him needlessly, but he also didn’t want to give away too much information too easily.

His recent talk with Natra and Rufna in the carriage was still on his mind.

After a moment of silence, Kian spoke up.

”There’s something I wanted to confirm, but Ms. Priscilla’s subordinates have contacted them and gathered some basic information. The emergency is over, so we’ll be jumping according to our schedule.”

”You’ve confirmed it, but is there something that you and Ms. Priscilla must go see him for…?”

”Yes. We need to meet him just to be safe.”

 ”‘Just to be safe’. Hmm…”

Sarah narrowed her intelligent eyes slightly.

She seemed not to be convinced and was suspicious.

Did she have some information that Kian and the others didn’t know about?

She had fought Oswald and died, but did they exchange any words at that moment?

It didn’t seem likely they would chat during a fight, so that possibility seemed low…

”Hey, Kian. Can I go with you to Izerland?”

”You are part of my party. Whether you like it or not, you’ll come and register as an Adventurer. But set the base at East End. Izerland fortress is a mess with all the Azraelian business. It’s better for us to share the same base for tax reasons.”

”Of course. And, while we’re at it, can I visit Oswald too?”

”Absolutely not. Focus on what you need to do.”

He was about to answer immediately, but Kian swallowed his words and kept smiling.

”He’s the one who killed you? What do you think you’ll do? Are you planning revenge?”

”──. I know, that’s not right. Hahaha… There’s no particular reason. I just suddenly thought I’d like to have a little conversation with him.”

”To meet him, you need permission from Her Excellency Maribel. It’s a rule, so I can’t let you go.”

”No, it’s my fault for being selfish.”

”Hey, you two! How long are you going to keep chatting?”

 ”Oh, Lady Priscilla. I’m sorry…”

Sarah turned to the Witch who came over, puffing out her flat chest and wearing an angry face, and bowed her head in apology.

Her muscles that supported her core were strong, making even such a small gesture look beautiful.

While Natra felt charming, Priscilla was purely beautiful.

 27 years old.

It had really been 15 years since he parted from her…

Kian looked at Priscilla and said, “I’m sorry. Please take care of Sarah.”

”Got it. Let’s go, Ms. Sarah.”

 ”Okay. ──Well then, Kian.”

 ”Yeah.”
