Volume 1 Chapter 12 Spiral Gun
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Are you doing the quail quest again today? Well, I don’t want you to fight with the kids over the iron quest like last time.”
Mr. Laken, the village head of Toyata, is also the guild branch leader and the receptionist, so his mornings are always packed.
Normally, this guild hall is empty, but in the mornings, a few adventurers linger around, chatting quietly.
This morning, though, the entrance is alive with the mischievous group of five from the village.
The leader, Ani-Ani, is Mr. Laken’s granddaughter.
Usually, Mr. Laken scolds naughty kids, but he’s always soft on his granddaughter.
The children know this, and they take full advantage of it, their laughter echoing in the hall.
”Magnetic Hurricane!”
One boy spins around with a stick, and the others pretend to be blown away, falling dramatically to the ground.
”I don’t really get it, but that game has become popular lately,” I remark, half-smiling.
After I showed them the Magnetic Hurricane by the river a few days ago, the village kids started playing hero games.
This village has little entertainment, so the concept of shouting a technique name before using a special move was exciting to them.
Even the kids who weren’t there that day have now joined in, and it’s become the village’s new obsession.
Of course, they kept pestering me to show them my special move again.
I made up an excuse, saying that using it too much would shorten my life.
They loved that excuse and quickly incorporated it into their game story.
They now say you die after using the move three times.
Ani-Ani, who used to cling to me, seemed really shocked by that mysterious skill I used.
Since then, she’s kept her distance. Even now, she glares at me from the corner of the entrance.
(Well, at least she’s not violent anymore—let’s count that as a win.)
More importantly, that mysterious skill I accidentally used on Ani-Ani…
I think it has some kind of recognition-blocking effect.
Since I have the chance, I should experiment with it on the quail.
By the time I step out of the village gate, the summer sun is high, shining fiercely overhead.
I decide I’ll finish the quest in the morning, then take a nap.
Maybe I’ll even go for a swim in the Luck River, like the kids.
I activate my radar, searching for nearby quail.
I couldn’t find them before, but now they’re close to the village.
I feel it.
About 300 meters away.
Once I lock onto them, I’ll stop using the radar. No need to keep it on.
I deactivate the radar and focus solely on the target.
(Easy enough, but let’s call it “Lock-on Mode.”)

By the way, there’s a reason I’m so into quail hunting.
My fighting style is a one-hit kill from a distance.
I wish I could hit and run, but my agility isn’t the best.
If I don’t kill them in one hit, I can’t run away, and I’ll end up hurt.
Even against slimes, if they hit back, I’m in trouble.
My strength isn’t enough to kill a slime in a single hit.
That’s why I can’t beat slimes.
In this world, you can revive at the church if you die, but it’s not guaranteed.
With my abilities, there’s a 20% chance I won’t revive, turning to ash.
I can’t afford to act recklessly like in a game.
There’s a tutorial quest called “The Hero’s First Battle,” where summoned heroes must kill a slime.
It’s a simple quest, but I didn’t take it.
As a result, I became a hero who couldn’t even defeat a slime—a new legend of failure.
The reward was just a herb you can buy at any store, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt if I skipped it.
After all, what’s the point of completing it if I can’t even beat a slime?
That’s when I realized that my job, Stargazer, isn’t a fighting class.
If it’s not a fighting class, I can’t get fighting skills.
Without fighting skills, even slimes are a serious threat.
Apparently, ordinary villagers can’t beat them either.
The folks at the Summoning Church were more worried than I was.
Summoning a hero who can’t fight is a scandal, especially since the Hero Administration Bureau was founded.
Demotions, pay cuts… It was tough. I really feel bad for causing so much trouble.
Ms. Marsha dug up an old job nobody had heard of from the back of the data room, thinking it was a fighting class because the job name sounded cool.
She was so capable, even the high priest didn’t double-check.
The god who gave me this job is the war god, Sha, the God of Starry Travels, so the ritual priest had no doubts.
Because of a series of unfortunate events, I ended up as a weak hero with low stats, the worst summoning bonus, and no combat class.
The only thing that kept me from being completely useless was the Hunting skill from Stargazer, which led to bow skills.
Without that skill, which is almost like a combat skill, I would have been completely stuck.
A surprise attack when the enemy doesn’t notice me triggers a critical effect.
Attacks to vital points or using special weapons also trigger critical effects.
Since the combos of critical effects multiply, if I surprise a brown quail with a bow, I can take it down in one shot.
The quail is the only creature in this world my one-hit kill actually works on.
