Volume 2 Chapter 18 The Madman in the Fog
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
In the misty forest, Lifia and I were quietly waiting.
The thin white fog blocked our view, but thanks to Lifia’s wind spirit Mooluum, we could sense the enemy’s presence.
Footsteps approached, and the figures that appeared were 2 members of the notorious adventurer party “Fang of Lead.”
Both drew their swords and wore dirty armor.
One was fat, while the other was slim with sharp eyes.
They were readying their swords, exuding a threatening aura.
But we knew there was another one hiding in the forest, thanks to our detection magic.
They were probably planning a surprise attack with a bow.
”Hey, you two. How about we talk for a bit?”
The fat man said with a sleazy smile.
”Talk? We all know your kind’s demands.”
I replied coldly.
”Haha, saves time if you get to the point.”
The slim man snickered.
His gaze was lewdly scanning Lifia’s body.
”That little lady over there is cute. How about you let us have some fun with her body? And that magic bag you have, leave it behind too.”
A vulgar laugh echoed through the forest.
Lifia’s body and the magic bag they thought I had.
That’s what they were after.
Just as expected.
”No.”
I answered briefly.
”You’re refusing?”
The fat man repositioned his sword and took a step forward.
”Then we’ll just take it by force.”
”We’ll teach you your place.”
The slim man also readied his sword and started to close in.
”Lifia, get ready.”
”Yes, Master.”
Lifia quietly nocked an arrow.
Her movements were without hesitation.
She took a deep breath and released the arrow.
The arrow whistled through the fog.
But the adventurers reacted quickly.
They twisted their bodies to dodge the arrow.
The arrow disappeared into the depths of the forest.
”Like that arrow will hit!”
The slim man was mocked.
He seemed confident.
But Lifia’s expression remained calm.
The real target of her arrow was elsewhere.
”Gyah!”
From behind them, through the fog, a scream rose.
”Saq!? What’s wrong!?”
”Damn it, I’ve been hit! The arrow curved towards me!”
The one who shot the enemy in front was Bluff.
Lifia’s arrow changed direction with Spirit Magic, aiming for the third adventurer hiding in the mist.
It’s a shame that it doesn’t seem to be a fatal blow from the sound of his voice.
But if he stops to be cautious, that’s enough.
”What was that…!”
The adventurer panics.
Lifia’s aim was spot on.
”Air Impetus!”
Without hesitation, Lifia shot her second arrow.
With a popping sound, the arrow sliced through the mist.
One of the adventurers deflected it with his sword.
A high-pitched sound echoed as steel met wood.
”Hmph, using the same trick twice──Ugh!?”
The man who swatted the arrow with his sword smirked, but suddenly his body was blown away.
He was sent flying backward, rolling on the ground.
Lifia had sent an invisible wind magic right after the arrow.
Naturally, attention goes to the arrow when shot with a bow.
It was a surprise attack that took advantage of that opening.
”You bastard!”
The remaining slim adventurer, furious, raised his sword and charged at me.
I readied my sword to meet him.
I blocked his downward strike, and we were locked in a blade clash.
His strength was stronger than I expected.
I grit my teeth, searching for a chance to push back.
”Lifia!”
When I shouted, Lifia immediately began chanting her magic.
”Mooluum, Air Impetus!”
Spirit Magic was unleashed.
A sharp mass of air rushed toward the adventurer.
”Ugh…!”
The man broke off our clash, twisting his body to dodge the magic.
I took that chance and swung at him.
But the adventurer avoided that too, jumping back.
Then, he kept his distance and became more cautious.
As we glared at each other, the tension in the air grew stronger.
Neither of us could move, and a suffocating silence enveloped the forest.
The man I blew away with magic was trying to stand up, swaying.
The third adventurer, hidden in the forest, could move at any moment.
As the tension pressed down on us, Lifia shouted sharply.
”Master, something dangerous is coming!”
Dangerous?
What is that?
”Is it worse than these guys?”
”Yes, much worse!”
Did she sense something?
Lifia looked like she was scared and anxious.
I don’t really understand, but if Lifia says it’s dangerous, let’s run.
”Got it, create a distraction!”
”Yes! Mooluum, sprinkle the powder!”
Lifia tossed the red powder in the air and whipped it up with wind magic.
The red mist flew directly towards the adventurers’ faces.
It was chili powder.
”What is this powder?!”
”Is it poison?! Don’t breathe it in!”
The adventurers covered their faces and hurriedly stepped back.
”Damn it, this stuff!”
”You won’t escape!”
Shouts were thrown at us, but they wouldn’t catch up with their eyes closed.
If they opened their eyes even for a moment, the wind-driven chilies would mercilessly enter their eyes and noses.
We hid in the shadow of a huge tree.
Then, I activated the skill “Love Hotel.”
I opened the door that appeared and slipped inside with Lifia.
