Give-Cheat v2c8

Volume 2 Chapter 8 That Moment History Moved

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The trial of the Hero who attacked a remote village and killed the village head became a hot topic in the royal capital.

Because there weren’t enough seats, the trial was suddenly moved to the largest room, called the old opera house.

Even though it’s called an opera house, it’s a smaller place built for the royal family to enjoy.

It doesn’t have space for a thousand people.

They said there might be standing room at today’s trial.

When the palace was turned into a courthouse, not much was changed, so the chair upholstery is old and worn, but it’s still overwhelming with elegance and luxury.

The plaintiff has to pay the trial costs.

I wonder if we have enough money.

”Don’t worry, they say the Bureau will cover all the costs,”

 Ms. Nina whispers softly.

 This princess… knows everything.

A splendid platform was set up in the center, with the judge and 2 judges in the middle, the plaintiff on the right, and the defense on the left.

It seems the front of the stage will be the courtroom; as Ms. Floria said, the farce starring Hero Alexander will begin.

Along with Ms. Floria, the mustached magician who bullied me in the last trial and the neutral black-beard judge will join.

Compared to when I was judged, Alex is in a much better position, but it seems Ms. Floria is okay with that.

Well, the opposing side just seems to be using Alex, so they don’t actually seem like allies.

Complicatedly, there seems to be factions even among those opposing Hero summoning.

The conservatives don’t want to pay the fees for summoning Heroes but want to join the Anti-Demon Alliance just in case.

The reformers want to break away from the Alliance and take their own path, and they are in faction disputes.

This time, it seems the reformers among the opposition are supporting Alex, hoping to unite the majority of the country to leave the Anti-Demon Alliance together.

They probably don’t want to be left out just by having my country exit.

It seems that even within Ms. Floria’s faction, which supports summoning Heroes, there are further divisions.

There’s a group of realists who think it’s better for countries that won’t pay their share to leave the alliance, and a group of idealists who believe we should help even those countries that can’t pay in times of need.

Ms. Floria is advocating for the realist approach, and the idealists say she’s even worse than the opposition.

What the idealists are saying sounds noble, but it’s pretty messed up if they’re secretly getting funds from the opposition or conservative factions.

Ms. Marsha, who took care of me, seems to be part of the idealist group, so there must be some truly good people among them, right?

It looks like a 4-way courtroom battle is unfolding with each faction’s schemes getting tangled up.

So, in the end, what I have to do today is…

Stay awake and sit through to the end.

That’s all I was told to do.

Well, it’s troublesome to be told something, even if it’s vague.

The whole faction thing is beyond me.

Since the plaintiff’s seat faces the audience, today I can get a good look at the spectators.

I spotted Ms. Marsha all dressed up, and the other spectators, regardless of gender, are also in lavish attire.

It’s like a festival out here.

In this world where entertainment is scarce, maybe attending a trial is an enjoyable event.

There are no TVs or internet, but judging by the laptops used in this world, they should be able to make something like a TV technically.

It seems that when there aren’t enough seats, standing room is fine too.

I can see some people who look like nobles competing to give up their seats.

At the bottom, people find ways to score points, it’s the same everywhere.

”The defendant offered to sell the Doll Princess to a Hero’s subordinate. There’s no denying this, right?”

 ”Wrong! That’s a lie.”

All 3 judges shake their heads.

”That last one was a bit off. Let me try again.”

 What’s up with Alex’s guy?

Is there a trick to misleading the judges?

”Alright, let’s ask again. The defendant offered to sell the Doll Princess to a Hero’s subordinate, correct?”

 ”I didn’t do it. I’m innocent.”

Once again, all 3 judges shake their heads.

”Hey, what’s going on? This isn’t what we agreed on!”

Alex started complaining to the truth official.

The audience got noisy. It’s like he’s saying he’s doing something wrong.

It’s good that Alex, the idiot, self-destructed, but this is what the opposition wanted.

Because the Hero did something unfair in the trial.

”What do you mean, ‘isn’t what we agreed on’? Did someone trick you?”

”Yeah, I was tricked! I’m the victim! Last night…”

”Hee! The defendant, be careful what you say!”

The judge from the opposition party was in a hurry to stop Alex’s words. He was probably surprised by Alex’s sudden outburst.

He’s not fit to be a judge if he gets flustered by this.

The old man’s actions were clearly unnatural.

If you look closely, it’s obvious he’s trying to hide something that’s bad for the opposition.

Even so, I didn’t know the old man was such a funny character.

What’s with “Hee!”? He seems to be the type who’s bad at improvising.

On the other hand, Ms. Floria is playing the role of an ordinary judge well.

At first glance, it looks like the stupid Alex is running wild on his own, but actually, Ms. Floria is skillfully controlling him.

What’s scary about Ms. Floria is that she can manipulate people’s hearts with the strength of her voice and the timing of when she speaks, rather than the content of her words.

I thought when I talked to her yesterday, if she gets serious, it would be easy for her to make a man fall in love with her.

”Did the defendant know that selling the doll princess was a crime?”

 ”I didn’t know. Believe me.”

The truth officials didn’t react, which means they didn’t feel guilty.
