Volume 3 Chapter 4 The Otherworld’s Gun Part I

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

It’s been a while since I’ve gone quail hunting.

Today’s goal is 3 birds: one for Mr. Zenom, one to share, and one for ourselves.

They say the brown quail at this time of year is super tasty.

Apparently, newly sprouted wheat is packed with all kinds of nutrients.

The quails are stuffing themselves with this new growth to prepare for winter.

They look way different than in summer──their feathers shine, and they’re all chubby and cute now.

Juicy quail meat, rich with flavorful fat, is said to be one of the best treats in this world.

Even the village guys who usually don’t touch a bow are out in the fields, their eyes shining.

 It must be that delicious.

I hate to say it, but brown quail are pretty tough if you don’t have skills.

There are way too many rivals, so I’m giving up hunting near the village.

After all, too many idiots can’t even find prey on their own and just wander up to where I am.

The only one really standing out is Ms. Joa with her white legs.

She’s not great at hunting, but she has an important role: carrying Ms. Nina.

We haven’t prepped the riding gear yet, but when Ms. Nina, who has riding experience, tried riding Ms. Joa, they matched well and took off together.

I can’t pull off riding a bareback horse like that.

Today, I’m hoping Ms. Ant, Ms. Aqua, and Ms. Claire each catch one quail.

If it seems impossible, I’ll jump in too.

It’s kind of ridiculous to bring 2 horse people and 3 Antfolk to hunt some quail, but my firepower is crazy strong.

With this crew, I think we could just go hunt lesser dragons and power-level easily.

There are 2 reasons why we’re avoiding dragon hunting on purpose.

One is the existence of confusion status effects.

While Antfolk have relatively high resistance to status effects, they can still get confused sometimes.

If Ms. Ant gets confused, there’s a huge chance the whole party will wipe out.

Plus, it sounds like there are a ton of monsters in this world that can cause confusion.

I hear most medium-and-up Hero teams like to fight with defense (strength) style.

It’s not exactly a contradiction, but they wear spears that can’t pierce shields and then fight with them.

When they focus on attack (strength), the team ends up killing each other, so it’s no good that way.

High fire strength and paper armor magicians seem to be at a disadvantage.

That kind of style makes you only hunt enemies who are weaker than you, so it’s not very efficient, but it’s a way to lower the risk of losing everything.

There are some attack-type Hero teams, but they all seem to vanish suddenly──maybe wiped out or disbanded without anyone noticing.

So, me trying to go after the sub-dragon is way too risky.

The other reason is about skill mastery points.

I noticed comparing the 3 Antfolk girls that even doing the same thing, the lower-level one gets way more mastery points.

Whether it’s because of level difference or some bonus based on level, I’ll test more later, but low levels are way better for growing skills.

I’ve already hit level 4… If I knew from the start, I’d have just kept at level 1 and kept trying.

Well, if I stayed at level 1, I probably would’ve just got wrecked and slaughtered by Alex──so in the end, it’s better this way.

For now, I think I’ll keep my level low and focus on building up skill mastery points.

* * *

Ugh, stalker villagers are so annoying.

From their faces, I guess they’re friends of Mr. Chaa, the butcher.

They know I’m a quail-hunting expert and think if they follow me, they’ll find quail too.

Sorry, but Ms. Joa and Ms. Nina, who stand out too much, are just going to be decoys.

I hide in a bush nearby for now, out of their sight, then activate Stealth skill.

Ms. Claire, who’s a slave, can’t use Stealth, but she still does a good job of hiding her presence.

 Ms. Claire’s a skilled hunter.

No way a village girl with almost no hunting experience could hide herself that well.

After leaving the princess on the white horse as bait, the Hunting squad, having erased their presence, moves towards a flock of quail.

Even if some ruffian tries to mess with Ms. Nina, they’re not Ms. Joa’s enemy, so it’s fine.

The moment I took my eyes off the 3 Antfolk girls using their Stealth skill, they vanished without a trace.

 Well, that figures.

I was thinking maybe I should use my Searching skill, when my Stealth skill got nudged, just like that.

This must be Ms. Ant, huh?

In return, I casually activate my Searching skill, nice and easy.

After a short wait, I got responses from Ms. Ann and Ms. Aqua too.

When both sides have Stealth and Searching skill, I guess you can do things like this.

After playing around a bit, I could roughly sense where the other person was hiding.

But this means, if the enemy has Stealth skill, you can’t just casually use Searching skill, right?

You could probably share info and all sorts of things if you just formed a party, but too bad, I don’t know how to do that yet.

I’ve got more companions now, so I guess I’ll look into it next time.

We approach a nearby flock spotted by Radar Scan.

A group of young quail born this year, 5 in total.

It seems Ms. Ant and the others have noticed too, closing in like they’re surrounding them.

I see, the Antfolk must be tightly bound by a strong bond, even without forming a party.

Maybe it’s like a racial kind of telepathy?

Ms. Claire seems to have already spotted the quail.

Even with her skills sealed, her cheating horse-person vision strength hasn’t disappeared.

She’s already nocking an arrow, pretty eager.

But that’s way too far to shoot from.

Handling a bow seems like it would be kind of annoying with big boobs.

Of course, cutting off her breasts is totally out of the question. Messing with something so perfect would be like insulting the gods.

Maybe I can figure out a way with a sports bra or something, already talking to the tailor Mr. Simonov and the leatherworker Mr. Munin about it.

Both of them seem to love big breasts because their wives are busty, too.

Planning to talk more about it when I go share the spoils.
