Volume 3 Chapter 84 Joint Battle (Moment)

Kian landed on the roof with a low parabola, barely slowing down as he jumped again.

 ”──────”

He looked down from several meters high.

He could see the fleeing monster tumbling in front of the Oswald estate’s main gate.

 ”…!!”

The ground rushed up at him fast.

Kian forced his eyes open and readied the Windsong Blade at a low angle.

Sparks flew from the magic sword like purple lightning.

There were only patrolling soldiers nearby.

The main gate of the Oswald estate was wide, meant for carriages to pass through.

 There was no cover.

Right now, he could deliver an unavoidable strike.

(Use the Secret Technique. At the moment of landing.)

 ’There’s a person there.’

 (It won’t matter much.)

He gripped the hilt of the magic sword.

He concentrated, forcing power into his wide-open eyes.

The heartbeat slowed, and the approaching white cobblestones seemed to move in slow motion.

 Kian bent at the waist.

 The ground rushed towards him.

 He crouched down.

 He tensed his muscles.

His gaze was not on the ground, but on the misshapen monster that dashed ahead again.

The distance was just under 20 meters.

 ”──────”

 Secret Technique.

Kian’s murmured words for self-suggestion were drowned out by the sound of crashing into the ground.

 (‘Pursuit of the Shadow’──!)

 He landed.

 He stepped forward.

With his second step, he accelerated further, putting strength into his arms.

On his third step, he dug his right foot into the monster’s back and swung the magic sword──.

 ”AAAGGHHH!?”

The man’s vocal cords let out a deathly scream.

Leaving behind scorched marks on the cobblestones, Kian closed in on the massive black body in a single leap.

The Windsong Blade produced a high-pitched sound as it sliced through tough fur, thick muscle, and strong bones like hot butter.

In one clean cut, it severed from the waist to the armpit.

Beyond the monster’s split fur trailing bloody strands, he saw Eleonora standing there, mouth agape in shock.

 ”Hey──wha…!?”

(Crap. I couldn’t see the color in the west sun, but were the soldiers below from the Sunlightland Knight Group?)

While Kian clicked his tongue inside, he stomped down on the collapsed giant body and shoved the tip of his magic sword into its spine.

Then, from the torn fur, blood splattered as thorny vines slithered out like snakes.

He grabbed them with his hands and pulled them out.

The thorny tendrils writhed as if they hated it, but when Kian used the vampire magic “Drain Life,” they twitched once and then wilted like defeated flowers.

Their color changed from a mix of red and dark green to brown.

He ignited the true form of the drained vampire with ‘Silver Ice,’ reducing it to ashes.

This time, it would never come back.

Kian shook the Windsong Blade once to splatter the blood, then looked around at Eleonora and the Sunlightland Knights who were frozen in shock.

”Can you please call the witches? I just took down that monster.”

* * *

Since he couldn’t leave the monster’s corpse in front of the main gate, Kian loaded the giant body and the pitiful guard’s head onto the cart prepared by Eleonora and rushed back to the square beneath the salon.

The western sun was gradually dimming, and looking up at the sky, he saw night beginning to rise.

Now that he thought about it, something important always seemed to happen during adventures at this time.

Dusk, when the essence of night grew stronger…

Kian didn’t really like the burnt smell in the air that could be felt at this hour.

 ”────”

 ”────”

He moved with Eleonora and the others from the back gate through the windbreak path to the arch near the square under the observation tower.

They all wore dark expressions, and somehow the sound of their heavy armor felt muted.

’This was the Defense Minister’s blunder. Whatever the circumstances, they ended up cornering the monster to the observation tower where the lord was.’

(It didn’t seem like the atmosphere was right to ask for details, and there wasn’t much I could do anyway.)

 ”Your Excellency!”

Eleonora, having stopped the cart in front of the arch, hurriedly stepped into the square ahead of Kian and the others.

The square, lit by multiple bonfires, was filled with a sense of despair.

 There were many injured.

Some of the soldiers were dead, covered with white cloths.

The body of the rampaging Owl’s undead was either moved somewhere else or had already been burned; it was nowhere to be found.

The scent of blood was heavy in the air.

It was inappropriate, but to Kian, it smelled sweet.

From those scattered around, tending to the injured, there were many muffled sobs.

 ”Your Excellency!”

He followed Eleonora through the archway.

Looking at her now, her white cape was dirty with sludge from the sewers.

 ”…Eleonora.”

In the deep part of the plaza, near the stairs by the bonfire, Maribel, Natra, Lucretia, Christy, and Renaud, who had turned back into a human, were present.

Maribel cast a concerned glance at Eleonora, but feeling the harsh gaze of the injured nobles around her, she wiped the expression from her face.

Eleonora knelt before her, her red hair swaying.

”Your Excellency, I’m so sorry! I heard there was a tavern in the east area of the merchant district selling rare distilled liquor, so I was keeping an eye on it. But I spotted a suspicious hooded man along the way and chased after him. It was good that I went into the sewers, but he noticed me and the monster leaped out from a well that was supposed to be blocked, straight into the merchant district──”

 ”Defense Minister.”

 ”…Huh…”

 Maribel tightened her lips.

The whispers among the nobles around them grew louder.

”I am disappointed in you. You will be confined at your home in the fortress for a while.”

 ”W-wait, Princess Maribel…”

Eleonora’s face flushed as red as her hair, but unable to say anything, she bit her lip and looked down.

Maribel looked like she was about to cry, but turned away before her expression could break.

”Get out. Everyone here wishes for that.”

 ”……Let’s go.”

 ”Y-yes.” “Understood…”

The backs of the Sunlightland Knights as they left looked filled with sorrow.

Shamed and dishonored, Eleonora and the others fled from the plaza.

”Master Kian, thank you for your hard work. Thanks to you and Renaud, we avoided the worst case scenario. On behalf of everyone here, I deeply thank you.”

 ”No problem.”

 ”Um… hey, Manon?”

 ”Nn~, Christy.”

Christy is in her usual witch outfit.

She was glancing back towards where Eleonora just left.

 ”Is that good enough treatment?”
