Volume 4 Chapter 21-2 Her True Power

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”White truth, shine on all things, show your bright light.

Vibrate with particles, carve the twinkle and shake of stars.

Guided by the flow of the world, become silver light and pierce through everything!”

The magic circle carved in the spellbook gave off a pale glow.

White light gathered in Yomi’s palm.

The light flickered like ripples, then squeezed tight into one point.

 And then Yomi shouted.

 ”Altair Ray!!”

A dazzling light burst from Yomi’s hand.

The beam shot straight up into the sky, piercing the clouds.

Without a sound, part of the cloud popped and a small hole opened up.

Through it, clear blue sky peeked out.

 ”Wow…”

The words slipped out without thinking.

 How far does this reach?

It’s got to be easily more than a few kilometers.

 ”S-so, how was it!”

Yomi, breathing hard, looked back at us.

”I knocked down like 30 or 40 of them!”

 Kéa, squinting, said while watching.

 ”About 50 birds, yeah.”

 Then Lifia added more.

”You guys can see that far?”

 At this distance?

 ”Of course we can,”

 ”I heard the birds’ voices.”

Kéa said it like it was nothing.

Lifia smiled quietly as she answered.

Both of them, damn, they’re impressive.

”That’s all? But it’s supposed to be the strongest one…”

 Yomi looked annoyed.

Hitchcock’s hawks come in groups of tens of thousands.

Fifty down doesn’t even make a dent in their numbers.

It’s nothing, just a drop in the ocean.

Also, the hole in the cloud closed up right away like nothing happened.

Not even a sign they’re coming back to fight.

 Huh.

That magic was definitely powerful, and the range is crazy far.

 But that thin beam?

Not good for fighting tons of enemies.

So I asked the two how they’d handle that magic if it was attacking them.

”If you read their gaze and killing intent, you can dodge before they shoot,”

 Kéa answered right away.

”You could try a fake-out. Hide and they can’t aim. It looks like it can’t last long either.”

 Lifia calmly analyzed too.

They came up with a counter plan pretty quick.

 ”No way…”

Yomi slumped their shoulders, looking defeated.

”I should definitely apply this a bit more.”

To explore the potential of magic, I decided to keep testing with different monsters.

I fired in rapid succession while reducing the power.

Spraying it out at a wide angle like a shotgun.

 And so on.

I tried several methods, but the thickness of the beam didn’t change at all.

The more I fired and spread it out, the less accurate I became, and my hit rate dropped.

 Plus, it wasn’t very efficient.

I ran out of breath quickly.

The beam magic took down large Angler Grass and Mirage Brown Snails in one hit.

It pierced through sturdy scales and shells effortlessly, an instant kill.

But against the small, quick Blur Bunny that confuses with clones, I was powerless.

It was a struggle just to take down the clones, let alone the real one.

In conclusion, this spellbook’s magic can be judged to specialize in firepower and range.

It would definitely be useful against stationary enemies, huge targets, and breaking strong defenses.

But it’s not suited for dealing with small, fast enemies or large crowds.

”Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Yomi’s power is definitely reliable.”

I said that and gently patted Yomi’s head as she looked down.

 ”…Yeah.”

She blushed a bit but nodded happily nonetheless.

 High firepower and super range.

 Yomi’s magic is undeniably powerful.

 It’s a strength we didn’t have before.

She would likely take on the role of a main cannon.

 But that’s not all.

If she reads through other spellbooks, she’ll probably unlock new magic too.

This means her potential will keep expanding from now on.

I’m looking forward to what comes next.

 ”By the way…”

 I suddenly thought.

About how strong Yomi’s skills are.

Even if she depends on the spellbook, she gained firepower that lets her shine on dungeon deep floors.

Compared to the trouble-making heroes struggling on the 3rd Floor, she’s far stronger.

She’s said to be comparable to the main heroes waiting in the royal castle.

Was she really just special and strong on her own?

 Was it a coincidence?

 That seems unlikely.

My skills are specially exceptional because I got dragged into summoning.

Yomi should be treated just like the other heroes.

I thought hard and suddenly hit one possibility.

Yomi’s skill became really useful by checking out the ‘Love Hotel’ features.

Only the skill name was identified at the royal castle.

It seemed like the only way to know what abilities it actually had was to test them out.

Wait a minute, maybe other heroes also have this kind of potential?

If I check the details in ‘Love Hotel’ and unlock its true power, everyone might get to Yomi’s level of strength.

I felt a cold chill run down my spine.

Good thing I hid ‘Love Hotel”s features.

What if all those guys had abilities at Yomi’s level?

There’d be no way to handle that.

Even Lifia and Kéa would struggle to keep them in check.

The more I thought about it, the more I was relieved I didn’t leak any extra info.

 I honestly felt that way.

 ”What’s wrong?”

Yomi asked me as I was deep in thought.

Oh no, did I make her anxious?

 ”Nah, it’s nothing.”

 I laughed it off.

”I was just thinking how cute and reliable you are, Yomi.”

 ”You idiot.”

Yomi mumbled quietly while turning her face away.

But her ears were faintly blushing.

I teased Yomi but kept thinking.

There are still 20 more heroes left.

They’re supposed to be nicer than the ones we just met, but it’s better to be cautious.

If they find out about ‘Love Hotel”s features, someone might try to use it.

 No, they definitely will.

Or they might even try to steal it.

’Love Hotel’ has that kind of allure.

We might run into them someday.

We have to get stronger for that time.

While heading back to the Love Hotel, I swear in my heart.

Still, I believe we can handle whatever comes our way.

 Let’s walk together with them.
