Volume 4 Chapter 21 Her True Power
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
We came back to the surface from the dungeon with Yomi.
And we managed to get the official sent from the royal castle to approve Yomi’s free movement.
The official was a real jerk.
Didn’t show any respect to Yomi or me at all.
It felt pretty shitty, but anyway, we’re free now.
Next stop was the adventurers’ guild.
To report about Yomi to Tifi and sell the dungeon loot we’d been stacking up.
Thanks to the heroes who were stalking us being gone, we could finally cash in without sneaking around.
We’re not broke, but carrying some cash never hurts.
Might need it someday.
When we stepped into the guild, Tifi at the counter greeted us with a big smile.
”Welcome back!”
”Yeah, I’m home.”
She hugged me tight, super happy.
Officially, it was like we had been gone for several days.
She acted all over-the-top glad.
Even though we just parted this morning.
Tifi pressed her head into my chest, rubbing it around.
Way different from her usual calm vibe.
But how much of that is an act?
Maybe she just wants an excuse to act cute and clingy with me.
What a cutie.
I calmed the clingy Tifi down and we moved into a private meeting room.
Then I reported what happened earlier.
”I see, so there’s nothing to worry about now.”
”Yeah, what a relief.”
But…
”Still,”
I voiced my doubt.
”That official believed us way too easily.”
The story about Yomi surviving alone and wanting to stay with me──he accepted it with almost no questions.
Even though he’s supposed to watch over the heroes, he was pretty chill about it.
”Maybe he just didn’t care about me at all.”
”What do you mean?”
”I think he really cared about the other 9, and figured I’m harmless, so it’s fine to ignore me.”
Yomi answered plainly like that.
”Makes sense.”
Come to think of it, they kicked me out right after summoning me too──guess they aren’t interested in weak heroes.
Yomi might think it’s not her problem, no matter what happens.
”By the way,”
Tifi spoke up then.
”Just this morning, we got a request from the officials.”
Tifi said while spreading out documents on the desk.
”If anyone saw the hero in the dungeon, they want information, and if there are any relics, they’d like those back.”
”I see.”
So even the royal castle is worried about the hero’s return being delayed.
It makes sense they would want to check on what happened in the dungeon.
”But it’s only being requested internally, only to some trusted adventurers. Regular ones won’t be notified.”
”So they aren’t openly recruiting?”
”Yeah. They’d want to avoid any suspicion about the hero’s abilities.”
It’s true, the hero is a summoned force meant to uphold the nation’s pride.
If they were to get wiped out in the dungeon that easily, it would totally ruin the royal castle’s face.
Sure, it was a group with a bad reputation that disappeared, but a hero is still a hero.
They want to hide any embarrassing stories as much as possible.
”Well, it doesn’t concern us anymore.”
Shrugging, Yomi smiled lightly and nodded.
”Yeah.”
Yomi looked really relieved.
She has no reason to feel guilty.
It was those guys who abandoned her first.
There’s no need to worry about the people who looked down on her before.
The problems with the hero, which had troubled her, are all sorted out.
Now she can focus fully on exploring the dungeon.

”I did it!”
While taking a break in the Love Hotel, Yomi’s voice suddenly rang out.
When I turned to look, she was jumping joyfully on the sofa, arms raised high.
Just moments ago, Yomi was staring intently at her spellbook and dictionary.
For the past few days, she had been completely absorbed in that task during the day.
”Hmm? Did you finish reading it?”
When I asked, Yomi nodded vigorously, a huge smile on her face.
”Yes! I finally read it all!”
Her face shining, she closed the spellbook ‘The Magic of Light Trajectories’ with a snap.
”It’s amazing!”
Yomi hugged the book to her chest, excitement shining in her eyes.
Those eyes were full of joy and thrill.
It was like a kid showing off a treasure.
”Did you understand the content?”
When I asked, she nodded proudly, puffing out her chest.
”Of course! According to this book──”
And she began to speak with enthusiasm.
”Light contains the white principle, the very law that permeates the world!
It resonates with magic essence, flickering like the twinkle of stars,
Guided by the flow of ley lines, it never breaks.
Everything in this world vibrates.
Stars trace their orbits, ley lines circulate magic essence,
Light exists as both particles and waves.
So, magic is the technique to capture that vibration, interfere with it, and elevate it into form──
Meaning that light never exists alone; it’s influenced by countless fields of magic essence.
When they gather, they become stronger, amplified,
Sometimes exploding like the shimmering of stars, sometimes converging like a silvery blade──”
She continued explaining, riding high on her status.
I could almost see swirling spirals in her eyes.
”Calm down.”
I gently chopped her forehead.
”Ouch!”
I asked the now-silent Yomi, who held her forehead.
”So, in short, can you use magic now?”
”Mmm, it was just getting good.”
Even while grumbling, the next moment she puffed out her chest confidently.
”I can use it! It’s amazing!”
Yomi answered with pride.
She was so confident.
Cute.
I couldn’t help but smile back.
”Looks promising.”
”Of course!”
Yomi grinned mischievously.

To test Yomi’s magic, we stepped into the dungeon’s 3rd Floor, False Plain.
Yomi stood quietly in the vast grassland.
Her gaze was fixed straight at the sky.
There was a blue sky.
And white clouds floated above.
To be precise, a mass of white birds disguised as clouds──Hitchcock.
”I’m gonna turn them into grilled chicken!”
Yomi muttered lowly.
There was an intense anger in her eyes.
Well, it was understandable.
Yomi had been clawed and poked by those birds before, almost dying because of them.
With the fire of revenge burning in her chest, Yomi opened the spellbook.
Then, the chant began.
