Volume 13 Chapter 23 Dust Wolf
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Lina, watching from behind, sounded dazed──like she couldn’t believe what she saw.
But there was no time for that──together with Annabella, we took down wave after wave of Dust Wolves.
After about 30 minutes of nonstop fighting, the tension finally slipped, and my mind started to wander.
”Sir Kent!! Watch out!!”
The magic stored inside my armor had already been drained.
The Dust Wolf’s fangs pierced through, gouging into my skin──no more defenses, no more magic shields.
”Damn it!! Get off me!!”
I swung my arm to shake off the biting wolf, but its teeth had already torn through the armor and sank into my flesh.
”Ow… don’t bite me, dammit!!”
Pain blazed through me──fire ignited my fury──and I jabbed my dagger into the wolf’s head again and again, shaking the bite loose.
”So Sir Kent’s being bitten, huh?”
Annabella, after slaughtering another Dust Wolf, turned her mace on the one biting me──she coldly battered it into silence.
The Wolf she hit finally released my arm and collapsed, dead.
”I think I’m about at my limit…”
Blood seeped out from the torn skin, pooling and staining the ground.
My magic──already ravaged by the constant bullet creation──was all but gone.
No one here had enough energy left to cast healing magic.
Damn… I might be done for.
The bleeding, throbbing rush blurred my vision, the world spinning──and my thoughts drifting away.
”Kent! That’s enough──Fall back. Feria, Ines. Take Sir Kent to a safe place.”
Milly’s tears filled her voice as she ordered Ines and Feria into action.
The blood flowing from my wounds was already more than I could handle.
I couldn’t stand anymore──I sank to my knees on the ground.
”Mr. Kent! Feria will handle the rest, so rest now! Ines, I’m counting on you!”
”Sir Kent, over here”
I was lifted by Ines and brought to the center of the room.
Talia immediately put her hand in checking my wounds.
”Sir Kent… those wounds are severe… If we don’t use Healing Magic soon, you’ll lose consciousness in just a few minutes──and we can’t afford to lose you.”
Talia was already straining to draw out the last remnants of her magic to heal me.
”Talia! Use my magic too!”
Beside us, Lina looked worried, placing her hand on Talia’s, trying to channel her own magic.
”You can use mine as well!”
Ines joined in, gently pressing her hand atop theirs.
Then, as Talia gathered the fleeting fragments of our magic, Healing Magic shimmered to life, weaving its warm light over my wounds.
The deep gash on my wrist began to close, halting the flow of blood.
”…With this… Sir Kent will be… alright…”
The 3 of them, completely drained of power, collapsed to the ground in a heap.
The immediate danger of losing consciousness faded with the bleeding.
But that left the 3 of them unconscious, inviting even more peril.
”I’m sorry… I underestimated our enemies. Reinforcements should arrive soon.”
Despite losing a considerable amount of blood, I managed to recover enough to shield the fallen Talia and the others from the approaching Dust Wolves.
Nearly a hundred Dust Wolves had already breached the area, piling up around the entrance like a mountain of chaos.
Yet, the swarm of incoming Dust Wolves showed no sign of letting up.
Where’s the backup…?
Milly and Aurelia were slowly retreating toward my position in the center.
Even Annabella and Feria started to pull back, forced by the pressure of the Dust Wolves.
”Everyone, fall back!”
As they hesitated and began to gather around me, it was clear many of them had already sustained light injuries.
The end felt dreadfully near.
If this keeps up, we’ll be wiped out… We need reinforcements…
”Kent… we’re reaching our limit. At this rate, we’ll die here…”
Milly’s expression turned grim.
The others looked over, anxiety etched on their faces.
”I’ll protect everyone!! Just trust me!!”
I gathered every ounce of strength, raising my shield and sword to stand in their way.
Inside the room, about 5 Dust Wolves had already entered, ready to attack.
Those 5 Dust Wolves lunged straight at me.
Their fangs sank into my shield, trying to rip it apart as they pulled me down, but I braced myself and thrust my sword into one of the Dust Wolves.
Yet, even as I fought, another Dust Wolf clamped down on my ankle.
”Grrrrr!! Agh! Damn it!!”
As it bit into me and dragged me back, I lost my balance and fell to the ground.
Milly and the others rushed over to pry it off, but its fangs were stuck firmly in place.
”Kenttt!!!”
”Sir Kenttt!”
Instead of coming to my aid, they charged in, trying to fend off the Dust Wolves that surrounded me.
”You idiots!! Protect the 3 down! I can handle this!!”
Milly and Annabella, trying to fend off the swarm of Dust Wolves, flinched at my shout, freezing in place.
”B-but!!”
”No buts!! I’ll draw their attention, so you keep Talia and the others safe! These wounds are nothing compared to what I faced against the Beast Monsters!”
More Dust Wolves continued to swarm me.
If it weren’t for the armor Golerg made, I’d have been torn to shreds by now, but thanks to his strong armor, I was still intact.
Still, with my magic running low, I didn’t know how much longer that armor would hold up.
I need to at least take care of these guys…
With every ounce of strength, I swung my dagger at the Dust Wolf biting my right hand and ankle.
The Dust Wolf, too focused on its meal, stiffened as my dagger pierced its skull, collapsing to the ground.
”Aaaaagh!! Damn it, that hurts!!!”
A throbbing pain surged through my brain, almost dragging me under.
Just as I took down two of them, new Dust Wolves crept in, ready to pounce on Milly and the others.
Got it.
I’ll craft those lines into sharp, emotionally resonant English with the punch and rhythm of a top-tier light novel or anime dub.
Damn it──no way I’m dying here!
Not in a place like this!
Move, dammit…!
*Come on…* my body──move!
I try to crawl toward Milly and the others, but the Dust Wolf that just appeared pulls me back, dragging me away.
”This… this can’t be it…”
Just when I thought I’d given up, the ceiling explodes open in a massive burst, leaving a gaping hole.
Dust clouds swirl as the clang of fists and the muffled boom of gunfire echo through the chaos-filled space.
”Sir Kent! Help is too late!! Are you──alive?! Healer!! Hurry!! Sir Kent’s barely hanging on!!! Move, move!!”
Noemi, clad in shining silver armor, was the one who pulled me to my feet.
”I-It’s… I’m saved…”
As relief washed over me from the rescue, I lost consciousness cradled in Noemi’s arms.
