”Target confirmed!! The village is already surrounded by ‘another world monsters’!! Black Bullet and Sir Kent will be dropped in first!”
The situation at the destination had been relayed to me by Ludmila, who was riding as my steed.
I could already confirm the situation at the village with my own eyes.
Damn, so many ‘another world monsters’ have already surrounded the village… I need to buy the villagers some time to escape…
”Got it. Black Bullet will repel the ‘another world monsters’ trying to breach the village. Crimson Bride will assist with protecting and evacuating the villagers. Black Wing, under Ludmila’s command, will support Black Bullet and transport the villagers to Felward Fortress. Once the villagers are loaded into the transport baskets, head straight for Felward! Luckily, there are no ‘another world monsters’ in the sky yet!”
”Understood. I’ll drop Lord Blackdagger and the others into the village first.”
As Ludmila descended towards the settlement, the Black Wing members, equipped with transport baskets, followed closely behind her.
The remaining Dragonewts, approaching the horde of ‘another world monsters’ near the village, began their rapid descent, attacking with breath attacks and stone-throwing.
Among them were Feria and Ines, already mounted on Dragonewts as Maid Dragons, swiftly cutting down the approaching ‘another world monsters’ along with their mounts.
”Wooohooo!! I can use all the Divine Magic I want here! FerFer’s untouchable, baby──best mage ever!”
Feria summoned her Divine Magic: Valkyrie’s Balisard──an axe-spear glowing with holy light.
With it in hand, she ripped through those ‘another world monsters’ like nothing.
Not to be outdone, Ines swung her massive battle axe, cleanly lopping the heads off several monsters at once.
Total showoff.
While Dragonewt and Feria’s squad went wild, enemy pressure on the village finally let up.
That’s when we made our move, dropping straight into the settlement.
”…Your wives really are insane, you know that? That──that’s not magic, is it? The mana she’s putting out is just off the charts.”
Clayd glared at me with those dead-inside eyes, all while staring at Feria’s Divine Magic like it was some forbidden ritual.
I just pretended not to notice, whistling, looking off into the clouds like I didn’t have a care in the world.
”Tch──fine. I’ll keep my mouth shut about this. If word gets out there’s someone here who can use Divine Magic, the Kingdom might put you on the chopping block for heresy. I’ll call it even──this rescue mission wipes your slate clean.”
Clayd threatened to go tattling to the Kingdom, but my country’s independent now.
Even if he snitches, it changes nothing for us.
Still, if that’s enough to put Clayd at ease, I’ll just smile and let it go.
A king’s got to know when to laugh things off.
No sense picking a fight.
For now, I’ll throw everything I’ve got into the rescue.
”Alright! Black Bullet team, set up makeshift barricades on every route into the village and spread out to your firing positions! Ludmila, you’ve got the skies──let nothing past you. Everyone else, protect the villagers. Mr. Clayd, introduce me to the village head.”
After giving out the orders, I took Clayd with me and headed for the chief’s place.
Most of the villagers had already gathered in the square, watching us with anxious faces.
That’s when Clayd stopped──right in front of a woman from the Rakshasa Clan.
”Valentina, just like I promised, I brought someone who’ll keep you safe. Seriously, if you round up 4 or 5 girls from the Garuda Clan──yeah, the ones on the verge of extinction──this king’s the type who’d bend over backwards to help. Softhearted to a fault.”
Hearing Clayd’s completely over-the-top intro, the woman──Valentina──looked absolutely mortified.
”Mr. Clayd! I am not here for anything shady like that! Margrave South District never abandons anyone seeking refuge. Ms. Valentina, please ignore whatever nonsense you just heard. My name is Kent Blackdagger──I’m the king of Margrave South District.”
I tried to offer a handshake and keep things as friendly as possible, but after that introduction from Clayd, Valentina nearly jumped out of her skin as she took my hand.
Great. Now she probably thinks I’m some kind of creep.
”Y-yes. I’m Valentina Ockini, village head here. I also oversee the barrier facilities for Lady Arsella. Thank you so much for answering our plea. As you can see, our village is completely surrounded by ‘another world monsters.’ We’ve lost every escape route by land.”
”Don’t worry. My Black Dragon Clan will personally escort all the villagers to Fort Felward. There’ll be carriages waiting there, ready to take everyone to Estfort as soon as you’re safe.”
I’d already sent word to the Nirei Fortress troops──carriages would be standing by at Felward.
We had everything ready to move the rescued villagers straight to Estfort.
”…You’d go so far to protect us?”
Valentina’s eyes went wide in shock.
”Kent’s a real softie… and, yeah, he loves the ladies. Valentina, if you’re looking for strong heirs, just hit up Kent──he’s pretty much legendary in bed; rumor is, you won’t even get to sleep. Let Feche, Iola, Shiina, and Bera fuss over him too, and you’ll have a whole brood in no time. The man’s got [Sexual Prowess] and 0 limit on his appetite──he’s basically a walking, talking Majin of lust. Hell, he even managed to ‘seduce’ my own daughter.”
Clayd’s venom-laced ‘explanation’ made Valentina flinch.
She jerked her hand back, breaking our handshake.
”Sir Kent… So, we really do need someone to, um, look after you…?”
Watching Valentina’s eyes well up like that──so lost and unsure──just made me feel squirmy, like I was bullying her or something.
”Ah, no, see──I keep saying this, but Clayd’s got his wild takes. All I said was, I’m accepting you all as my people. Sure, I’ve got a lot of wives and such, but I’ve never forced… at least, I don’t think I’ve ever forced anyone.”
”Wait! Wait, what does that pause mean?! Now I’m even more curious!”
Valentina’s eyes grew even more worried and dewy as she stared at me, like a lost puppy.
”Gah, enough already! I told you, I’m not going to force anyone! Now hurry up and get the villagers into the transport baskets! The Garuda Clan especially──there’s barely any of their 4 races left, so we need to get them to safety, ASAP!”
