Volume 14 Chapter 2 Rescue Operation
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Chancellor Aldo will likely figure it out on his own.”
”Got it. Then send a messenger to my father-in-law and His Majesty Shifa. For now, let’s keep the extinction of the Four Species under wraps. Just tell them that Arsella’s barrier is nearing its limit, and there’s a high chance that monsters from the Abyss Gate will start pouring out.”
I had instructed my mother-in-law to keep the truth about the Four Species hidden to prevent the possibility of the True Demon Kingdom taking them, and only tell them about Arsella’s barrier.
”Hah, trying to add more mistresses again, are we? Well, fine. If it gets out in the Kingdom, there might be some stupid nobles making a fuss about wiping them out. But alright, I’ll send a messenger to Arbalest and His Majesty Shifa, as Mr. Kent instructed.”
”I’m not planning to make them my mistress or anything…”
The women in the office, including my mother-in-law, focused their attention squarely on me.
Their eyes screamed disbelief──like they didn’t trust a word I was saying.
”Kent can’t resist a cute girl, can he?”
”Yeah, I’m sure he’ll take them straight to bed in no time──just the kind of thing Mr. Kent would do.”
”Knowing Kent, it won’t stop at one round. That girl’s going to be all over him by the end.”
”Well, it’s good that he’s enthusiastic about making babies. Maybe I’ll join them and let Mr. Kent ‘enjoy’ me too.”
They were all saying whatever they wanted about me, and honestly, they weren’t wrong.
I couldn’t exactly scold them.
…But, I mean, a cute beast girl is going to join us.
How could I not get excited?
In cases like this, it’s all about pressing bodies together, getting to know each other… right?
I argued in my head, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it out loud.
”Anyway, forget all that. Let’s get ready and head out for the rescue! Everyone, prepare yourselves!!”
To dodge any more questions, I hurried everyone in the office to get ready and slipped out.

By the next day, I’d already arrived at Fort Felward──riding in with Crimson Bride, Black Bullet, and the Dragonewt squad stationed in Capital City.
Delprius and the others were already there too, leading every last Dragonewt they could muster to join us.
And now, here I am──face to face with Clayd, the guy at the center of all these recent rumors, holding a little interview in one of the fort’s rooms.
”Look at you, Kent the Coward, acting all high and mighty. Who would’ve guessed you’d end up king of the richest country on the Demon Continent? Really──back then, you were a joke.”
Clayd slouches back on the sofa, legs splayed out, eyeing me with a sneer that says I’ll never be good enough.
I haven’t seen Clayd since that mess with Dee, but apparently he got utterly wrecked by Orphée Bleu──possessing Gertroud──during the rebellion.
But some things never change: his ego still fills the room.
”Well, I’ve been doing my own share of training on this campaign! Maybe now, I’m at least worthy enough to stand at your feet, Mr. Clayd!”
In a single step, I close the whole distance between us and swing a punch straight for his smug face.
Clayd’s eyes go wide in shock at my speed, but he just barely dodges my fist.
”Heh, so you weren’t lying about that training. Even I didn’t see that coming. Damn, those Majin skills sure make you a quick study! But don’t think I’ve just been sitting around, either!”
For a second, Clayd’s outline blurs──then suddenly he’s on my left, ready to throw a punch.
But I don’t sense any killing intent from this shadow.
Probably just a decoy──some magic trick.
I pause and check my surroundings with care.
And there──on my right──he’s hidden, but leaking enough bloodlust that it practically buzzes in the air.
”Too slow! Mr. Clayd, you’re way too soft!”
Just like I thought──the left was just a magic-induced afterimage, dissipating on touch.
And as predicted, Clayd was hiding on the right, ready to pounce.
I successfully blocked his move with a Physical Guard.
”What the──how’d you figure it out?! This was supposed to be the part where you get clobbered and hit the ground, groveling, ‘Mr. Clayd, I’m sorry, I got carried away!’”
Clayd, still fuming from his botched attack, was heaping senseless accusations on me.
I swear, this guy’s thought process is just unfathomable sometimes.
”I told you I’ve grown. Now, I can really give Mr. Clayd a run for his money. How about you taste my fireball?”
I took advantage of Clayd’s momentary lapse and unleashed a fireball right before his eyes, no chant needed.
Then, just as he was bracing himself, I made it vanish without a trace.
”Damn, you’ve got some nerve. Fine, I’ll acknowledge you’ve grown.”
”Father was also defeated by Kent…”
”I wasn’t defeated!”
Clayd’s blood pressure seemed to spike as his daughter, Delprius, needled him.
It must have been galling for someone who considered himself the strongest on the Demon Continent to be bested by the likes of me.
”Father, more importantly, tell us where the rescuers are. The real fight with Kent should be during the rescue operation. We need to reach the site as soon as possible!”
”You’re right. As Dee says, the rescue should take priority.”
Clayd looked reluctantly resigned; even he wouldn’t dare cause a fuss since he’s the one who tasked me with the quest.
”Alright, I get it. I’ll have a proper showdown with Kent later to settle things. For now, rescuing Valentina and the others comes first. All right, I’ll take the lead, so follow me!”
With that, Clayd tossed out the comment and dashed out of the room.
We were set to launch the rescue operation, with Clayd leading nearly a hundred Dragonewts and Dragonians.
