Volume 4 Chapter 10 Dragon God’s Herb
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The mysterious beautiful girl was actually Uno.
She’s the Dungeon Master and final boss of the Valley of Trials ── the dragon, Lady Uno herself.
I thought this was the Elemental Plane… I never considered it could be anything else until her true identity was revealed.
I feel kind of tricked.
The strange space I was trapped in is an “Abyssal Trap” called the Wall of Nothingness, which apparently has similar traits to the Elemental Plane.
My theory wasn’t totally off, I guess.
If I’d thought I’d wandered into the Spirit World, it helped me stay calm.
Plus, the spirits found me, so I’ll call it a win.
Inside the Wall of Nothingness, it’s said that people’s minds get eaten away by the malice hiding inside themselves.
It’s a hell of a trap.
I’d rather die and respawn than deal with that.
This dangerous barrier is set up in places where only those who belong are allowed.
It seems like Lady Uno doesn’t really care much about the safety of adventurers.
According to Lady Uno, the point of this dungeon is to give monsters a chance to fight humans.
I get the idea of luring adventurers with treasure for training, but… they know the risks and are taking responsibility for it, so I guess it’s fine.
The monsters here look fake because they’re newborns with no emotions developed yet.
Some monsters aren’t born from mothers.
They evolve from lower spirits or even combine from multiple spirits.
It’s a little weird to think of a lamia with a seductive appearance being called a newborn.
These monsters or spirits, born without mothers, sometimes end up mating with humans and producing offspring.
Apparently, the indomitable human lust and “true love” can cause miracles, making spirits or lamias pregnant with human children.
The new species born this way possess supernatural abilities and are called “anomalous beings” in human society.
Most esper abilities end up with the royal family or the ruling class… but being persecuted for them?
That’s not rare either.
Looks like the Demonfolk’s origin is the latter… but the actual story seems more complicated.
I wanted to learn more about the Demonfolk and the Demon King… but Lady Uno told me to see for myself if I’m interested.
By the way, the reason we couldn’t find the entrance to the boss room on the 4th floor of the dungeon?
Turns out the 4th floor is the boss room.
If an adventurer strong enough to handle the 4th-floor monster party shows up, a moderately weak dragon, a clone of Lady Uno, will come flying down from the sky to start the boss fight.
The 4th floor is an open-sky field type dungeon because Lady Uno likes to run wild.
If an adventurer catches Lady Uno’s eye, he’ll go on a rampage, then give some grand speech before letting them clear the dungeon.
”So, this is the dungeon clear reward.”
With a wave of Lady Uno’s hand, a luxurious treasure chest appears.
It’s a standard-sized chest that could hold a suit of armor, but it’s exquisitely crafted with mithril and fine details.
This chest alone is a decent treasure.
”It’s incredibly heavy.”
The chest doesn’t budge an inch, like it’s bolted to the floor.
Is it one of those unmovable objects?
”I made it impossible to lift the chest. It’s more valuable than what’s inside, you see. I couldn’t bear for the adventurers to just walk off with it. Open it right here.”
Oh, lucky me.
Looks like I might get the dungeon clear reward too.
Eagerly, I open the chest, and there’s only a small ring at the bottom.
The chest turns to dust, leaving only the ring behind.
Lady Uno’s face changes the moment he lays eyes on the ring.
”The reward is set up so a magic ring appears in a lottery draw, but if you lose, it’s a cursed ring. Don’t accidentally equip it before you get it appraised at a place.”
”Don’t worry too much, though. This thing looks cursed just by looking at it.”
This ring’s got a real cursed vibe, with a sinister aura and a design that’s just plain gross──like some ugly skull.
No adventurer in their right mind would just slap this on without a second thought.
”How do you even know that without an Appraisal skill? It’s a cursed ring that you can’t take off once you put it on. The effect is sealing your skills, which would be a real nightmare.”
Cursed items stick to you until you break the spell.
You might not even realize you’re cursed and stop trying to take it off.
That’s a bad scene.
Lady Uno seemed to be dropping hints because I drew the short straw.
Maybe she’s a better girl than I thought.
”Sorry, but there were only 2 fails in the whole deck. Want to try again?”
”No thanks, wouldn’t be fun if I cheated. Besides, if it can seal skills, I might have a use for it.”
”Planning to use it on someone you don’t like? You’re pretty dark for someone who looks so normal.”
”Nah, not like that. I was thinking of sealing a slave’s Subjugation skill.”
Ms. Claire can’t use any other skills because of her Subjugation skill.
What if Ms. Claire wore this ring…?
