Volume 4 Chapter 10-2 Dragon God’s Herb
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Normally, the ring should seal away the subjugation skill.
Of course, other skills get sealed too, but no big loss if they’re useless.
The upside is we can act on our own free will, without the subjugation skill.
Maybe this can free Ms. Claire from slavery.
Of course, she’ll have to work off the price we paid the slave trader.
”You come up with some weird stuff, y’know.”
Lady Uno seems impressed by the strangest things, but any slave owner would think of that.
The real issue is that there’s no ready way to remove the subjugation skill.
Normally, you’d prepare an antidote for a poison, right?
Better stash the ring in a magic wallet, just in case.
A magic wallet is like a crappier version of a magic bag – it secures a bit of storage space in another dimension.
It’s a common skill derived from living skills, nothing special.
Kids lose their allowance and get scolded – that’s when you see it most.
Technically, it’s like giving an item to your future self across time and space.
Beats me how it works.
But it’s perfect for stashing cursed rings and such.
By the way, the Dragon God’s Herb isn’t in the treasure chest.
There’s no way it’s a dud, right?
”Is this the Dragon God’s Herb you’re talking about?”
Lady Uno casually picks a plant at her feet and hands it to me.
”Just a weed, but it sorta glimmers, doesn’t it?”
Looks like a regular weed to me, but there’s something powerful about it.
It almost… glows.
Could this really be the Dragon God’s Herb?
”Don’t know the name of the plant, just picked it ’cause it was there. Put a bit of mana in it, so it should heal most human wounds.”
If Lady Uno picked it, I guess it’s the Dragon God’s Herb.
Just like that, my mission’s complete. Easy.
”That’s not some kind of quest reward, okay? I just… couldn’t stand the thought of letting someone I fought leave all beat up.”
This thing works as well as an elixir.
Honestly? If it were me, I’d save it for later──unless I was half-dead.
Anyway, now that we’ve actually snagged the Dragon God’s Herb, let’s hustle back to the village.
”Oh, calm down. Time runs different here, you know? There’s no reason to rush.”
Looks like the deeper you go into this dungeon, the faster time flies.
This is Lady Uno’s lair, and apparently, it moves even faster than the bottom-floor dungeon.
Thirty years in here burn by in a single day outside.
Even if that’s only half-true, taking it slow for a bit shouldn’t cause any trouble.
I’ve been pushing way too hard, day after day.
My whole body is screaming.
It’s not an injury, so the Dragon God’s Herb wouldn’t do anything anyway.
If I can actually rest here for a couple days, I’ll take it. Gladly.
”Exactly. You feel like hell because you’ve stacked up so much mastery, your body can’t handle it anymore. Healing magic’s useless for this.”
Mastery?
Vessel?
I have no idea what any of that means… but I’ve got a really bad feeling about it.
”Don’t freak out, just listen. If you walk out of my barrier as you are? Boom. Your body’ll just pop like a soap bubble.”
All the EXP and mastery in this dungeon──Lady Uno’s the one who sets how much you get.
And I cranked it up way higher than normal.
That’s fine and all, but… I kinda forgot to set an upper limit on the mastery part.
Normally, beating someone way above your level nets you bonus EXP.
But Lady Uno? She wanted to go all out.
She set it so every time the level gap widens, your mastery doubles.
And doubles. And doubles…
In a party, the highest level sets the standard, but joining one slashes your skill points with a party penalty.
No wonder there haven’t been any hotshot adventurers just jumping in.
But I was different… level 4, and solo to boot.
And with a level 5 summon hero, newbie bonuses, blessings, and protections piled up.
Some astronomical synergy was going on.
Normally, there’s a safety limit to prevent your body from exploding with too much skill.
But it seems Lady Uno forgot to set it.
Inside Lady Uno’s strength barrier, it’s like I’m constantly being pumped full of skill.
It’s a delicate balance, like an explosion held in check.
Step one foot out of the Valley of Trials, and it’s goodbye balance, hello explodey fish out of water.
There are deep-sea fish in this world, too.
If I make it back, I gotta try cooking anglerfish stew sometime.
If I’d cluelessly walked out of the valley and into the wolf forest, I’d have been instant confetti.
Might need to ask Ms. Claire to bring back a Dragon God’s Herb for me.
”Relax. If you’re overflowing, just make your container bigger. Train to your heart’s content here.”
Got it.
There’s a way out after all.
Here, I can level up without worrying about time.
Once I burn through all this piled-up skill, I’ll be set.
Still, training without a care in the world… feels like I’m the protagonist of some manga or something.
