Volume 14 Chapter 22 For The Future

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Oh no, Her Highness Princess Delprius is a marvel of the Black Dragon Clan. So young, yet so powerful… it’s terrifying. I’m just a nobody, I couldn’t possibly take charge. Plus, my daughter is under King Kent’s care, so I’d hate for things to change.”

 ”Should I call you ‘father-in-law’?”

”No, no, just ‘Ugno’ is fine.”

”Well, Kent has lots of people he has to call ‘father-in-law.’ Oh well, enough of that. We accept the Sky Fleet proposal.”

Ugno brought the conversation back on track. If the factions of the fractured Black Dragon Dukedom united under Dee during this campaign, they should become our allies after the war.

The East Garuda Principality and Black Dragon Dukedom’s views were noted. Garvey and Kondrad were pushing me. They wanted me to present their battle plan to Ugno for approval.

”Father-in-law, I’ve devised my own rebellion plan. It even includes the strategies proposed by the two nations.”

I stood up and drew an arrow on the battle map from Felward Fortress to the Abyss Gate. It was a risky all-or-nothing rebellion plan: while the two nations distracted the enemy horde, we’d rush through the thinned center to the Abyss Gate, destroy the factory that’s the source of their production power, and send in the Elite Troops and Monster Hunters to destroy the Abyss Gate.

Sailing through the ‘sea of another world monsters’ to reach the Abyss Gate isn’t much of a plan, but with no better options and no more reinforcements coming, Garvey and Kondrad convinced me it’s all we’ve got. Reluctantly, I agreed.

I know this mission will likely wound and kill many soldiers. My body feels heavy as lead just thinking about it. But I understand that a bloodless victory is unlikely.

”Kent… you… if we do this, most who march won’t come back alive… Can you handle that, you idiot…?”

My father-in-law seemed to have a similar plan. I didn’t expect him to suggest the one I hate most – a strategy that spits out corpses by the dozen.

”Stop calling me names. I’ll remember and carry every soul we lose in this battle!! As a king, that’s all I can do! And if I don’t make it back, I’ll leave that burden to those who follow. I believe I was summoned here for this moment.”

After much struggle and comfort from Milly, I made my decision. No backing down, no turning a blind eye to reality. As king, I want to protect my people, and I’m ready to face the harm that might come.

I’m not a fool anymore. I’ve decided to take responsibility for the choices I make.

”Well said. I share your resolve, Kent. I’ll join you on your journey. In case of trouble, Lord Yaalan will clean up the mess. Even if I am a failed Demon Lord, let me do something Lord-like at the very end.”

Shifa stood up and came over to me, asking for a handshake. He was Gwain’s puppet for a long time, suppressing his true self. But as a king, he’s far superior to me. I’d like him to successfully conquer and rule this land for a long time, if possible.

”Your Majesty Shifa, Kent. You will be the last to die. What do you think servants are for? They’re there to keep the king alive. A king lives to take responsibility. And it’s a parent’s duty to protect their children’s future.”

My godfather placed his hand on top of ours as we shook hands. His rough, warrior hands – one holding a sword, the other a pen – conveyed a fierce fighting spirit. My godfather, who just married Ms. Eclair, still has a life that can’t be taken. Thinking of my men who’ve married and have families, and my own child, I don’t want to die. But if it’s a fight for my children’s future, I’m not afraid to die.

I’ll fight with my life on the line for my child’s future!! I won’t lose to those ‘another world monsters’. I’ll definitely send them back to their world and make sure my son, daughter, wife, and lover live happily ever after!!

”Let’s absolutely expel the ‘another world monsters’ from the Demon Continent!!”

”For the future of all children living on the Demon Continent!!”

When Shifa raised his voice, the attendees of the meeting echoed him one by one. Everyone’s passion grew. Shifa’s shout changed the stagnant air of the command center and became a major turning point in the war against the ‘another world monsters’.

After the meeting, it took a few days to finalize the details of the approved operations. But everyone was motivated, taking on their tasks with a sense of responsibility and excitement.
