Rising Monk V3c108-3

Volume 3 Chapter 108 Infiltration Operation III

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Two men stepped forward slowly, one before Kian, the other before Ninini, as the warriors retreated at the magician’s signal.

The warriors enhanced their physical abilities as they advanced, the sound of their footsteps growing heavy and dull. The man facing Kian was a giant, over 2 meters tall.

His silver fur was thick, and his burning light-blue eyes gave him the look of a ferocious beast.

 (He’s strong.)

The Wolfmen warrior spun his short spear, then brought the tip to a halt, pointing it directly at Kian.

The spear was angled downwards, due to the height difference.

The man stepped forward with his left leg extended, bending his right leg, ready to push off the ground at any moment.

The stance was similar to Church Knight’s Spearmanship.

But the physical abilities of the users were vastly different.

It was probably a modified ‘Mercenary King’s spear technique.’

There would be counters, but he should focus on a more aggressive approach.

Kian drew his long sword from its sheath, coating the silver blade with ‘impact.’

This would protect his weapon from breaking against the enemy’s spear and allow him to cut through the enemy’s thick fur and powerful muscles.

Several crossbows were aimed at him. A magician stood on the roof of the tent behind him, targeting him, but with no sign of activating magic.

They intend to capture him alive.

And they want to defeat him in a one-on-one fight.

He didn’t have time to worry about Ninini.

 ”────”

The warrior’s right leg sank slightly.

Kian jumped sideways, to protect Ninini’s back.

The man pursued Kian, ignoring Ninini.

With a sound that could be interpreted as “Yat,” “To,” and “Uu,” the man closed the distance and slashed with his spear. The magic language carved into the blade’s tip glowed orange.

The spear was aimed at Kian’s neck, leaving a faint trail of light in the darkness.

Kian parried it to the right with his long sword, and dodged to the left.

The man didn’t stop the spear’s motion, even as it was deflected. Instead, he swung the butt end towards where Kian was dodging. Kian met it with his long sword. But because he’d twisted his body to avoid the spinning butt, he couldn’t deflect it. The sword took the full force of the blow.

A brutal impact slammed into his arm. Kian barely managed to deflect it, using his right hand to brace against his long sword.

Using Kian’s own momentum, the man instantly pulled the spear back to his waist.

Then, with a spin, he swept the blade end towards Kian’s stomach.

 Kian jumped back to dodge.

At the same time, he kicked off the ground and charged, slashing.

Since the enemy had a long-handled weapon, Kian had to close the distance quickly or be worn down. Kian swung his left arm, aiming for the man’s neck. But the man, as if he could see the future, leaned back and nimbly used his left hand to sweep at Kian’s ankles.

 Kian jumped to avoid it.

He floated horizontally, and danced in the air as he swung his sword again.

Again, the man dodged, and the spear returned to his waist.

His light blue eyes burned with killing intent, and he unleashed a triple thrust with a powerful lunge.

The afterglow scattered in the darkness.

A series of swift, then sharp, 3 strikes.

Kian dodged right, then left. Finally, he braced his long sword with both hands, deflecting the final thrust to his right cheek. The devastating blow sliced deep, drawing blood.

 ”……””────”

 The distance between them grew.

Kian had pushed back, and the man had retreated.

Like predators, they circled each other, watching.

The man twirled his spear with a “hyruru, hyruru” sound and then rested it on his shoulder, the tip pointed at Kian. His light blue eyes gleamed like jewels.

He kept his stern face, but licked his lips, as if excited for a battle with a worthy opponent.

 ”Nyaaaaaa”

Behind him, there was a sound as Ninini was thrown to the ground.

The smell of blood filled the air, a clear sign she was injured.

Kian knew this would happen. Injured, she had no chance against the Wolfmen warrior.

 ”Azrael’s warrior monk.”

 The spear man muttered softly.

The nearby fighters cheered, enjoying the show.

(I’ll leave Rean to Sarah. At least, I need to recover Ninini. Now, how will we get through this?)

 Kian swayed into a stance.

He was using the ‘Shot’ style Natra had taught him.

It’s a quick, hit-and-run style──long-range attacks, fast movements to confuse enemies, waiting for the right moment to land a deadly strike.

The spear-wielder’s emotion faded, leaving only deadly intent. His body sank low.

Carefully, he raised his toughened arm, gripping his spear high.

 And then ──

 ”────!”

 (Fast────)

A bright silver shadow vanished in the blink of an eye.

When Kian looked up, a spear tip was about to stab down from above.

Desperately, he dodged right. Deep gouges appeared on his shoulder, blood spraying out.

Kian quickly counterattacked with his longsword, but the opponent stopped him with a gauntlet before he could strike at full speed. His muscle was half-gouged, then held in place by solid bone.

When Kian widened his eyes, he felt a heavy headbutt coming──stars burst behind his eyes.

He staggered from the impact but threw a frantic kick, pushing the man back.

 (‘Thread’)

The enemy’s retreat was blocked by Kian’s relentless pressure.

Kian’s dark, burning magic power surged. Invisible threads of magic from all directions whipped at the man.

 The man narrowed his eyes.

 Future Sight──.

The big figure, spear still at his waist, moved with sharp, fierce motions──jumping, crawling along the ground, then leaping to dodge left and right.

 (‘Blast’──)

 Damn it──

A small stone was blown apart with a blast.

The man was pushed back by the wind blast but threw a short spear.

 Kian sidestepped easily, rushing close.

He drew his falchion and suddenly lunged, animal-like and low.

An incredible burst of acceleration──he forced his way in.

The ground gouged, dust flying everywhere.

Kian’s black eyes narrowed. Using a series of ‘Leap’ moves, he dodged the man’s rush and struck back repeatedly. The crowd around him roared louder. Kian grabbed the man’s arm, used his momentum to throw him into the air. At the same time, he deflected the incoming arrow with his bow, reacting swiftly to the shot.

 ”Hands off! That one’s *mine*!”

The man, moving with incredible speed, circled Kian and grabbed a short spear from the ground. Then, he charged again.

He wielded a spear and a sword──a deadly combination.

Kian dodged, stepping back as the man spun and slashed with his blades.

If his future could be read, then all he needed to do was act in a way that couldn’t be predicted.

Kian took a spear to the face, the strike delivered with tremendous force.

The man’s face twisted with the thrill of a kill.

But Kian vanished into the shadows, leaving only a lingering afterimage.

 ”──!”

 Mist Form.

Having moved behind him, Kian casually swung his sword, knocking the falchion from the man’s right hand. Then, like a parrying dagger, he swung upwards, and slammed the hilt of his sword into the man’s nose.

 ”Gah!”

From point-blank range, he bent his leg and unleashed a powerful kick.

The ‘Nightshade’ boot slammed into the man’s stomach, making him cough up blood.

Kian vanished upwards, taking hold of the airborne falchion in a bat-like, upside-down pose.

 Two swords crossed.

He swung the long sword and the falchion, cutting outwards at the man’s neck.

Kian landed with a spin. Behind him, the headless man stood motionless, blood spurting with each beat of his heart.

 ”Kill him!” someone screamed.
