The barriers shattered one after another under the wild dance of light from the magic bullets, and each time, I’d hurriedly erect a new one, ruthlessly taxing my body to replenish the spent mana. And then, somehow managing to land on the silver jellyfish, Fabulanova spat beams of light from her mouth, sweeping away the tubes that had been firing the magic bullets from atop her hat.
In the meantime, I activated Healing Magic in a desperate attempt to mend the damaged organs, but the wounds were too deep; all I could manage without Advanced-level Healing Magic was to stop the bleeding and provide First Aid.
…This injury, even the healing potions might not work… Damn, I overdid it… It feels like I’m being skewered and turned on a spit.
Protecting my aching abdomen, I activated the Light Blade, extending the blade and neatly sliced the squishy, hundred-meter-long silver jellyfish in 2, hat and all.
The gigantic silver jellyfish, now split in 2, vomited a massive amount of bodily fluids as it plummeted towards the ground, bursting with light and a loud boom along the way. The fierce explosion struck my body, which was flying on the Flying Wings, throwing me off balance and nearly causing me to crash.
…Come on, seriously… If that explodes on the ground, it’ll wipe out Kent and the others… What the hell did they send after us?
Fabulanova, having seen the explosion, scooped me up and placed me on her back, then spoke to me.
”That was dangerous. If it had landed where Kent is, it would’ve been the end.”
”Yeah… We need to take it out quickly, or it’ll cause an even bigger disaster.”
As Fabulanova turned, the other jellyfish, abandoned by their ally, concentrated their fire on us. They seemed to have given up on attacking Dee and chosen to focus their barrage on me and Fabulanova instead. The newly deployed magic barrier shattered under the pressure of the magic bullets, disappearing one after another.
”Clayd, at this rate we’re screwed. Knock out that jellyfish at the highest point and make it misfire on the ones below!!”
”Guh, guh… Alright. Might as well do it now.”
By starting the magic conversion again with the magic element absorption (Mana Absorption), the damaged internal organs are further dissolving, causing a pain so intense it’s making consciousness slip away.
…I can’t afford to pass out here…. I have to break through this, no matter what….
Ignoring the pain in his abdomen, he continued to deploy the magic barrier, which was being shattered repeatedly. Meanwhile, thanks to Fabulanova, as he landed on the jellyfish’s cap at the highest point, Fabulanova’s beams were once again sweeping through the tube.
”Guh, geh, ughhh… damn… this is way worse than an emergency… looks like I’m in deep trouble…”
As I landed on the jellyfish’s cap, I couldn’t help but vomit, and bright red blood sprayed across the silver jellyfish’s cap. Yet, without using Healing Magic, I sacrificed my body to the Light Blade, pouring all the converted magic power into the blade to extend it.
The greatly extended blade increased the consumption of magic power, and I was also using the magic element absorption (Mana Absorption) simultaneously to try to recover the depleted magic power.
”Fabulanova… I’m sorry… just in case this is goodbye for good, I wanted to say it now.”
Fabulanova is a wise woman, and it seemed like she understood that he was inflicting a fatal wound on himself to squeeze out more magic power, as there were tears at the corners of her dragon-transformed eyes.
”What? I’ve known you’re a combat idiot for quite some time, but I can still listen if it’s about something else.”
”…Of course, I’m the strongest, most awesome guy in the Demon Continent!”
”Like I didn’t know that…”
”Sorry to trouble you, but I’m about to make a legend right now. I need your help, my wife. Will you help me?”
”A wife supports her husband. I’m a good wife, aren’t I?”
”That’s right. I’ve got such a wife who’s too good for me that I ended up asking without thinking. Fabulanova, let’s go!”
”Yes, with Clayd, I can become a legend too. I’m happy to join you on this path.”
After the conversation ended, I slung the oversized blade of the Light Blade over my shoulder, mounted Fabulanova, and soared into the air above the silver jellyfish. Again exposed to the cannon fire from other jellyfish, with no magic left to deploy a barrier, every magic bullet pierced Fabulanova’s body, knocking scales off and puncturing wings, leaving them riddled with holes.
…Damn, having to deal with this suicide mission… If I could, I’d want to survive and be Dee’s Assistant… But I’m stuck with this loser, so I guess I’ll just have to make up for it in hell.
Despite being bombarded with magic bullets and screaming, Fabulanova managed to dive into the silver jellyfish’s bell without falling. Then, with the diving speed granted by Fabulanova, he sliced the silver jellyfish vertically in one go.
”Heheh! Serves you right to watch! Oh, damn… Fabulanova… We did it!”
Telling Fabulanova about the destroyed silver jellyfish, the tattered scales, the wings torn open, and the flowing blood spoke of a result that also conveyed Fabulanova’s injuries were fatal.
”Sorry… I can’t fly anymore… Free-falling with the jellyfish… I wonder if Clayd can escape?”
”Idiot, I’m at my limit too… Can’t even use magic conversion anymore.”
Fabulanova’s body, now in free fall, began to spin. I clung tightly to the scales to avoid being flung away by the centrifugal force.
”I wonder if Delprius can handle being a king properly…”
”She’s our kid. Of course, she can handle it. She’s the daughter of the Demon Continent’s strongest couple, the legendary pair. She’ll definitely make good use of her Assistants.”
”Yeah. If it’s Delprius, she definitely will…”
As we spun in free fall, the silver jellyfish’s light and storm enveloped us, and my consciousness was abruptly cut off.
