Chapter 280-2 Monster
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Seeing Golarf-san calmly say he only has to kill his own daughter, I gained one certainty.
”I knew it, you’re truly a parent. You’re just like Melgis-san.”
”What are you talking about?”
”You still love your daughter.”
Golarf-san, who hadn’t shown any emotion until my words, suddenly widened his eyes.
”…Did you not hear me? Maybe at first, I still had some love left when she was born, but I lost that when Rayla was killed.”
”Then why is there no hatred in your words? Even after your beloved wife was murdered and your left arm taken, you say ‘I have to kill’ instead of ‘I want to kill.’ It means you truly don’t want to kill, right?”
”I’m not the kind of person who finds joy in taking lives. Sure, I wish I didn’t have to kill, but that’s all.”
”Even after all that, you can say that because you loved, you couldn’t hate her, isn’t that so?”
”……You’re persistent. I told you I’ve lost all love.”
Though my words seemed to irritate Golarf-san more and more, I kept at it.
”I’ll say it again and again, you love your daughter. Otherwise, you would have been swallowed by hatred long ago.”
”Ha… you’re really persistent…!”
Perhaps reaching his limit of patience, Golarf-san raised his voice for the first time.
”Love that monster? The one who killed my wife? Stop with this foolish delusion. I don’t hold grudges because I see them as meaningless. It’s a monster that can’t understand words──what’s the point in screaming curses at something like that? It’s like barking at a wall──completely pointless and only making you feel empty.”
”Human emotions aren’t so easy to control! Even knowing intellectually that it’s meaningless, humans can’t help but vent their feelings! No matter how many reasons you come up with, you can’t keep ignoring your own feelings!”
”That’s what elves can do, you know. Yes, I’m an elf, so──”
”Stop it!!”
A piercing scream echoes through the space filled with Gioniium.
The blade that was supposed to be aimed at Golarf-san had, at some point, shifted to the ground, and Melgis-san, head bowed, was trembling with her shoulders.
”Stop pushing yourself into a corner like that.”
”…Melgis.”
Faced with Melgis-san’s earnest wish, both I and Golarf-san swallow our words.
Continuing like this would only lead to parallel lines; Golarf-san would keep calling his daughter a monster, insisting he doesn’t love her.
I have to change the approach, so I throw Golarf-san one last question.
”Golarf-san, I won’t ask anymore about how you feel about your daughter now. But instead, I want you to answer one thing honestly.”
”…What is it?”
”Can you still love your daughter from this moment on?”
At my question, Golarf-san stares at me with a look of astonishment.
I meet his gaze head-on without flinching, and soon Golarf-san, defeated, turns away, clenching his fists as he utters through gritted teeth.
”How can I love a child I can’t even embrace with these arms?”
”…I understand, thank you.”
By shedding the mask of Grelego’s founder and speaking as the man named Golarf, I finally come to understand his true feelings.
Even if Golarf-san truly didn’t “love” his daughter, it didn’t mean he didn’t “want to love” her.
He just had no way to love a daughter who harbored the Origin and brought disaster to those around her; he wanted to embrace her, to love her, if only he could.
With that settled in my mind, I turn back to the Gioniium coffin, knowing what I must do now is to show Golarf-san that method.
”Golarf-san, please watch what I’m about to do.”
”Neil-kun? What are you planning to do? …No way!”
Before Golarf-san, who has realized my true intentions, can stop me, I step across the boundary between blue and black.
At that moment, blue tried to swallow me from Gioniium’s coffin, but I protected myself by stirring Crimson all over my body.
When I finally reached the heavy coffin made of Gioniium and managed to open its lid, inside was filled with blue, and I couldn’t see any human form buried in it.
But even if I couldn’t see them, I knew for sure there was a person here. After taking a deep breath and making up my mind, I slowly lowered both arms into the blue-filled coffin, and as I did, Blue burst out as if to reject me.
”Neil!!”
I heard Lewya’s scream behind me, but I kept lowering my arms without hesitation.
”Don’t be scared, I’m not trying to hurt you.”
My fingertips touched something soft, and carefully, I turned my arms and gently lifted the girl up.
”It’s okay now, you’re safe.”
”──────────”
As I covered myself completely with Crimson and said that, Blue dissolved and a girl appeared from within.
She had silver hair like Golarf-san, extremely pale skin, and striking blue eyes, staring at me with a curious expression.
I answered her with a gentle smile, then turned to face Golarf-san.
”As you can see, it’s too early to give up on ‘hugging’ her.”
”Neil-kun… what exactly are you?”
”I’m just a ‘human’ like this girl, but she woke up to her power too quickly──that’s all.”
In this case, the color of Origin doesn’t matter; if she had awakened her power later, this wouldn’t have happened.
The only difference between me and this girl is that──so that’s why──
”Golarf-san, my Crimson managed to suppress this girl’s Blue. So, if I use Crimson, I believe I can neutralize her long-term, not just temporarily like Gioniium.”
”…What are you trying to say?”
”Please let me develop a Magic Tool to suppress her power, so you can once again love this girl.”
”Haha, you really are… Honestly, I’m speechless.”
Golarf-san, despite smiling dryly at my words, the smile gradually faded.
”Seeing that stubborn side of you reminds me of Rayla. It’s always me who ends up giving in in the end.”
”Well then!”
As if some burden had been lifted, Golarf-san answers with a defeated expression.
”……Do whatever you want.”
