”Alright, let’s go with fire magical power, yeah?”
Ms. Lilith murmured, sliding the mithril silver into the broken magic gun’s hole. A click echoed as the metal meshed, and a satisfied smile touched her lips.
”As expected of the kingdom’s best craftsman. Fits perfectly.”
Ms. Lilith clicked! the magic gun back together, tapping the barrel lightly. At the same time, a low growl seemed to faintly emanate from the weapon.
”Alright, follow me!”
Ms. Lilith stood up abruptly, heading for the door. Everyone followed her back, drawn like moths to a flame.
* * *
Leaving the workshop, warm sunlight bathed Eluda and the others.
In front of everyone gathered in the courtyard training area, Ms. Lilith aimed the magic gun. Her posture, the same as with a crossbow, somehow felt graceful. But her gaze, fixed on the distant wooden target, was piercing.
Everyone held their breath, watching Ms. Lilith.
”Watch closely, alright?”
Ms. Lilith’s voice broke the silence. After a frozen moment, her finger squeezed the trigger.
──BASH!
A louder shot than a crossbow echoed through the courtyard, and immediately the wooden target was engulfed in flames, exploding like a Firebomb.
Burning fragments danced in the air, and the smell of burnt wood filled the air.
”The magic imbued in this fires a mithril silver bullet. The power, as you can see, is quite strong, yes?”
Ms. Lilith turned to face everyone, lightly raising the magic gun. The afterglow of the flames seemed to be reflected in her eyes.
”I see, the attributes can be changed at will by the type of magical power imbued in the bullet. Wow, I’m impressed!”
Grandpa crossed his arms, letting out a sound of admiration. A boyish excitement was on his usually stubborn face.
”Also, there’s less wobble when firing than with a crossbow, so the accuracy is also high.”
Ms. Frejya calmly added, looking at the remains of the burned-out target.
”Every shot requires reloading, which is a hassle, and hitting the mark with that one shot is quite the challenge. ──Well, you’ve acquired a fine weapon, Frieda.”
Ms. Frieda starts at Ms. Lilith’s words, her eyes reflecting a mix of astonishment and respect.
”Sure, bows and crossbows can be enchanted too… but this has a whole other level of power…”
Ms. Frieda’s voice trembled slightly, like a leaf quivering in the cold wind, her gaze fixed on the magical gun in Ms. Lilith’s hand, a complex blend of confusion and curiosity shining within. The gun’s surface emitted a cold metallic gleam, as if whispering secrets awakened from a long slumber, transcending time.
”What’s wrong, Ms. Frieda?”
Ms. Frejya leaned in, peering into Ms. Frieda’s face with a voice that mingled concern for the flustered woman.
”Oh… it’s just…”
Ms. Frieda stumbled over her words, her cheeks blushing faintly as she hurriedly averted her gaze, as if trying to hide her unease.
”I wonder if Helena and the others can really handle something like this…”
The words she finally managed to articulate seemed to float in the air with a semblance of confidence.
”Nonsense, it’s powerful but easy to handle!”
Ms. Lilith chuckled lightly, tapping Ms. Frieda’s shoulder and practically thrusting the magical gun into her hands, her actions exuding the same elegance that was so characteristic of her.
Grandpa slowly approached Ms. Frieda, his eyes twinkling like a sage gazing at the stars.
”Ms. Frieda… might I borrow that magic gun for a little while?”
That voice was calm, but an irrepressible curiosity seeped through. Eluda understood. Grandpa intended to lock himself in the workshop for days, studying this relic of the ancient civilization once he got his hands on it. After all, Eluda herself was captivated by this mysterious weapon! Everyone in the workshop wanted to investigate and unravel its secrets──the urge was bubbling up from deep within her chest.
”If Master Toldo says so, I’d be grateful if you would!”
Ms. Frieda gave a slight sigh of relief and a smile as she carefully handed over the newly received magic rifle to Grandpa with both hands. For a moment, the surface of the magic rifle seemed to shine as if it was calling out.
The instant Grandpa received the magic rifle, a childlike joy spread across his face. He gently caressed the gun with his wrinkled hands, narrowing his eyes as if cherishing a treasure.
”Hm, this is… no, it’s magnificent!”
Grandpa’s voice was animated, carrying the warmth of a workshop furnace igniting.
Seeing that, Eluda’s heart skipped a beat.
”Yes!”
She couldn’t help but cheer out loud, clapping hands with Aluda and Meluda beside her, letting their joy explode like a firebomb. The sound of their clapping hands, pat-pat, echoed through the courtyard.
