Volume 4 Chapter 61-2 The Trial Of The Scaled Light

The blade deeply sliced the flesh. The monster continued forward, falling as it went.
”No problem at all!”
Kéa crossed her twin blades and struck the side of an approaching shark-like monster.
She pierced its vital spot with a reverse grip, silencing it completely.
The shark-like monsters surged forward like waves.
But we took them down one by one with certainty.
Amidst the battle, the sailor Brownies moved nimbly on the deck.
At first, I thought they were just running around. But no, they were not merely panicking.
They distracted the sharks, guiding them to fight more easily, and caused chaos to draw the monsters’ attention.
Their small bodies bounced around, sometimes using ropes to move quickly, sometimes hitting the sharks’ snouts with sticks to divert their attention.
Despite their cute appearance, they were tough and reliable.
If we kept this up, we could handle it. Just as I thought that, Rozmiaque sensed something unusual.
”Lord! That guy is going to use a big move!”
I turned my eyes to the Sea Serpent.
It slowly raised its massive body, stirring up the seabed sand, and opened its mouth wide towards us.
In the depths of its throat, a faint, pale blue light began to gather.
Seeing that, my spine chilled. I had seen something similar before.
The light that a Dragon Zombie spat out. A dragon’s breath, a Dragon Breath.
”Dodge!”
I shouted immediately.
The helmsman Brownie responded to my voice.
She skillfully turned the steering wheel, making the ship turn sharply.
In the next moment, a torrent of water burst from the Sea Serpent’s mouth.
The water was compressed and released like a steel spear, a stream of murderous intent. It swept past the side of our pirate ship.
The seabed sand was blown away, and a muddy current trailed behind, swirling into a vortex. Just the aftermath made the ship creak and sway violently.
”Hold on!”
In the storm-like shaking, everyone grabbed onto something to maintain their posture.
On deck, the Brownies skillfully wrapped themselves in ropes, braving the swaying.
The direct hit from the breath was avoided, but the surrounding shark-type monsters were all blown away by the impact.
They were swallowed by the current and disappeared without leaving a trace. Incredible power.
However, if using that much power, it won’t be able to attack for a while. That thought was momentary, as light began to converge in the Sea Serpent’s mouth again.
No way, it’s going to fire another one!?
Impossible. It defies common sense.
But there’s no time to hesitate. If we take that breath now, the ship won’t survive.
The hull, us, everything will turn into sea debris.
”Retreat! Run away!!”
The ship shuddered and spun around, churning up foam.
A second breath was released from behind.
A turbulent current that split the sea passed right next to the ship, stirring up the seabed sand.
To avoid being caught in the swirling flow, the rudder was turned, and the ship slid across the seabed to escape.
The water attacks continued.
The intermittent breaths struck from behind, each time causing the ship to shake violently.
The erratic paths of bubbles running across the deck made it feel like being in the midst of a storm.
We clung to the railings with all our might, maintaining our posture in the tilting field of vision.
With water pressure pushing against us like a wall, blocking our view, the ship still desperately continued to flee.
The hull had fine cracks, and the sound of creaking periodically struck our ears.
After withstanding several attacks and continuing to run, we eventually noticed that the water flow from behind had calmed.
Looking back, the Sea Serpent’s figure was obscured by the darkness of the seabed and could no longer be seen.
There was no pursuit. Finally, we had escaped.
The ship gradually rose and eventually reached the sea surface.
The sunlight poured down on the calm sea surface. It was a tranquility that made the fierce battle just now seem like an illusion.
We collapsed onto our hips just like that.
The tension we had been holding in suddenly relaxed.
We breathed a sigh of relief and looked up at the sky. There was only the blue sky and the sound of waves.
It was a much stronger enemy than imagined.
”Could that be a Guardian?”
Terrible power. A violence that overrides reason.
And it’s not just about firepower.
Yomi’s light ray magic was received only once, and its characteristics were discerned immediately, with a countermeasure devised swiftly. Instant judgment and adaptation. That intellect surpasses that of a mere monster.
The shark-shaped monster I used to command is also troublesome. Because it kept using breath attacks repeatedly, maybe it can be summoned endlessly.
Also, it is likely hiding more trump cards.
We need to rethink our strategy.
Honestly, I do not know how to fight at this point.
But we should be able to find a way to win.
It is still too early to give up.
