Volume 4 Chapter 61 The Trial Of The Scaled Light

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

From the ship, we glared at the Guardian of this floor.

The sun’s rays shone on the sandy ground from the sea surface, casting a huge shadow that coiled around itself. It seemed to exceed a hundred meters in length.

Its entire body was covered in blue scales that reflected light, shimmering between waves. Golden hair swayed in the sea.

It had a body resembling a giant snake, but it was clearly no ordinary snake. Without wings, its overwhelming presence was almost dragon-like. Its form was truly that of the king of the deep sea, the Sea Serpent.

Behind it stood a stone tower.

The solid base with minimal decoration had a dark entrance visible. That must be the way to the next floor.

We had to defeat the Sea Serpent to move on to the next floor.

It closed its eyes and did not move. Was it sleeping, unaware of them, or simply not seeing them as a threat?

Either way, it was a good opportunity.

 Yomi started by casting magic.

There was still a considerable distance to the enemy. Their cards couldn’t reach except for her attack magic. They didn’t expect to defeat it with this, but it was a probe.

Yomi opened her spellbook with one hand and began to chant. Pale magical light gathered at her fingertips.

 ”Here it goes… Altair Ray!”

A beam of light shot out from Yomi’s outstretched palm.

The light pierced through the sea and reached the Sea Serpent’s body in an instant, piercing the blue scales.

The sound of the hard scales being torn reached them.

The blue scales broke, and red blood spilled out.

The blood spread underwater, floating around like red smoke.

 Eeeeeeeeeeeeee…!!

Immediately after, a loud, ear-piercing scream echoed across the seabed.

It was a roar filled with unimaginable rage from the massive body.

The sea-colored eyes snapped open and shot a sharp gaze at them.

 ”It’s working!”

 Lifia shouted.

 ”Alright, let’s keep going!”

 Yomi began to chant again.

In response, the Sea Serpent slowly raised its head. Its huge head turned towards them.

It was not mortally wounded. Rather, it seemed the attack had definitely woken it up.

 Yomi’s chanting continued.

But just before the spell was complete, the Sea Serpent’s sea-colored eyes flickered ominously.

 ”Altair Ray!”

Yomi released a white beam of light, cutting through the sea in a straight line again.

But just before reaching its target, the light’s path twisted strangely. It seemed pushed aside by an invisible wall, magic’s trajectory diverging. The beam missed the target’s diagonal back and exploded on a sand dune.

 ”Did you bend the magic!?”

”No, compressed layers of water and air are distorting the light.”

My voice expressed surprise, while Rozmiaque analyzed calmly.

 Compressing air and water? Incredible.

If the beam magic can be deflected, we must think of the next move.

If we use Lifia’s or Rozmiaque’s magic, we need to get closer.

Thinking this, the Sea Serpent let out a roar. Its voice resonated from the depths of its belly.

That sound made the seawater tremble, and immediately, numerous whirlpools formed around it.

Water and air intertwined complexly, churning up the seabed. Bubbles burst at the center of the whirlpools, muddy currents swirled, blocking the view.

Soon, the whirlpools calmed, and what appeared was a shark.

It had sharp triangular fins and rocky skin. Its bizarre jaw was filled with countless teeth, and its eyes glowed an eerie red.

The shark-like monster, large enough to swallow a human whole, bared its sharp teeth and charged at us with fierce speed.

”Here they come! Mooluumve, Wind Wall!”

Lifia shouted and thrust out her hands. The power of the wind converged, and a transparent barrier unfolded before us.

The incoming shark was deflected by the wind wall, altering its course.

Next, Yomi raised her spellbook and wove a spell as if weaving light.

 ”Entangle and shatter! Mana Weave!”

The beam of light released from Yomi’s hand spread out like a net in the air, blocking the sharks’ path.

The entwined threads of light neutralized the charge. Individuals trying to break through forcibly were burned by the light beams and cut into dice-like pieces.

 ”We’ve got them.”

As Rozmiaque whispered calmly, vines burst through the seabed sand.

The swiftly growing thick vines wrapped around the shark’s tail and yanked it down.

Another line tangled around the body, sealing movement, and sewed it to the seabed, strangling it.

However, some creatures slipped through the defenses.

 Yomi shouted,

 ”It got away!”

The shark bared sharp teeth and charged straight toward us.

 ”Leave it to me!”

I took out my sword and stepped forward.

I aimed at the nose of the rushing shark, timed my strike, and delivered a swift slash.
