Volume 5 Chapter 14-2 Pandora’s Box

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

But this is strange. I heard sacrifices to Schulz continued until recently, but in front of Mr. Shirakaba and the others, it suddenly jumps back a hundred years. Schulz doesn’t seem to have a reason to lie, so where did the sacrificed girls disappear to? They probably ran away on their own, I guess.

I’m recovering MP quickly through meditation while putting the women into my magic bag one by one. They’re all beautiful, but a hundred years ago is like Urashima Taro’s time—finding someone you know is difficult. Some are elves and high elves; I’ll leave them to Ms. Hóa. Long-lived elves might reunite with their families.

There are also monstrous beauties like centaurs, mermaids, and harpies. Despite complaining, many monsters that mimic humans, like mimic slimes and alraunes, are on display. It’s interesting, though. Many disguise monsters are extremely dangerous. Actually, it’s safest if Schulz burns them now, here. But if they’re in the magic bag, they’re harmless unless taken out. It should be safe.

Is that fluffy tail the famous fairy fox tribe? The woman with a squid-like lower body is probably a siren from the southern sea.

There are a few forms that look like Antfolk. All of them look closer to humans than Ms. Ant’s kind. Antfolk have many breeds because they were bred by elves. Schulz probably chose only the ones he liked.

”These kinds of oddities are human imitations created by divine beings, homunculi. They tried to imitate gods and create life but failed. Instead, they pieced together existing creatures.”

”Are divine beings, gods, by any chance?”

The ancient script used in the Editor skill seems tied to divine beings somehow.

”They were only arrogant humans. They boasted about being gods, but ended up burning the world and destroying themselves.”

Schulz speaks of the rise and fall of a mysterious ancient civilization, as if he saw it. Well, he probably did.

 ”Was there a final war?”

”It’s not really the final battle. The previous one was a big dragon fight that burned the world, after all.”

They casually say something terrifying. According to mythology, this world repeatedly destroys and is reborn. That means some people survived, so it’s not the ultimate war.

”This row displays my favorites among the works of gods and humans.”

Beautiful women of various skin colors, from small to giant, are displayed frozen in place. Schulz’s pride makes it very impressive. They are not only beautiful but seem like beings from a different dimension. Their combat strength might be extraordinary.

One of them, small about 150 centimeters tall, is a mature woman. She has well-balanced proportions and a handsome face—an ultra-beauty—but… seeing her mugwort-colored skin, I think of a completely different, ugly creature.

A goblin. Yes, that goblin. It’s a famous monster considered a weakling among humanoid monsters. They say even a novice hero can beat it easily, but since it has some intelligence, underestimating it can be painful.

I’ve only seen those sold at slave markets, and they were grotesquely ugly. The shiny mugwort-colored skin and the brown dirt caked in wrinkles looked like a disgusting toad. It’s only about the size of an elementary school kid, but has a face like a wrinkled old person and a crooked back with a big belly sticking out. It resembles the goblins from Japanese folktales.

Some superstitions say goblins are monsters created by Demonfolk from human ugliness, or born by tearing through women violated by Demonfolk.

During Demonfolk invasions, goblins are formidable enemies due to their numbers, but they usually stay in specific dungeons. Slave goblins are captured in southern countries, so wild packs might live in the southern frontier areas.

Because of their dexterity, they seems quite good as a slave despite their ugly appearance.

”No way, this girl isn’t a goblin, right?”

”She’s a goblin. She’s terribly degraded now, but when she was created, she was quite well made, you know?”

Were goblins originally homunculi created by divine humans?

”Others like orcs, ogres, and gigas now look pretty bad. Still, originally, they were made quite nicely.”

The beauties Schulz points to don’t look like monsters at all. Or, perhaps, they are unnaturally too beautiful. If they were created by humans, that makes sense in a way.

Orcs are famous humanoid monsters. They are roughly the same height as humans and are said to be strong and stupid. They are often said to have pig faces, but the orc slaves I saw in the market looked more like bulldogs than pigs.

The core of the demon lord’s army is made up of orc warriors. It’s said that fighting against a thousand orcs takes 2 thousand elite soldiers, so they are pretty strong. Orcs led by skilled demonfolk commanders have incredible strength, and many fallen nations were defeated by them.

The orc woman with wheat-colored skin in front of me looks far from the typical orc image I hear. Her beautiful face doesn’t look like a pig at all. Her pointed ears make me think she might be an elf if someone told me.

Behind the orc girl, the daughter of the ogas with reddish-brown skin is displayed. She is about twice as tall as a human, but she is also very charismatic as a woman. If she overcomes the fear of being crushed, she could definitely be someone to fall in love with.

They say the ogre women are called ogres, but even the fact that monsters have genders is generally unknown. It is said monsters have no females and kidnap human women for reproduction, but I wonder if that’s true. Monsters from dungeons seem to pop up like in a game, after all.

”The reason goblins and ogres became so ugly is probably because they mixed with human blood. The divine humans who created the enslaved races didn’t expect inbreeding, so, in the end, it became a failed creation.”

Schulz smirked as if saying “Oh well.”

Does that mean ugly goblins and orcs were born because humans harmed the beautiful enslaved species? Since they can reproduce, they probably have genes close to humans, though.

It’s understandable if goblins or orcs do it, but even if she’s a beautiful girl, craving for ogres seems impossible due to size. The blue-white-skinned daughter of gigas, sitting stiffly in a girl’s pose, is even bigger than ogres… When she stands up, I wonder how tall she is. About 50 centimeters head, 8 heads tall—so 4 meters?

Even if she’s very beautiful, I think this size difference is a big obstacle, but someone still tried to get close to her. If she had been a totally obedient slave species, safety might have been guaranteed, but if they got close enough to touch skin, the scale difference would cause problems. Were they extremely desperate for women, or did they truly love her? Well, in a way, they’re heroes.

The god-human who made gigas probably didn’t expect anyone to be so lecherous.

”By the way, I remember talk of breeding Otto’s male collection to revive beautiful monsters. Well, I’ve cut ties with him, so I don’t really care anymore.”

What is a male collection? I think I know, but… They probably mean using Schulz’s female collection and Otto’s male collection to create Adam and Eve, right? If you marry beautiful monsters with no human blood, you get beautiful descendants as designed by the god-human.

I’d like to see that, but if monsters become only handsome and beautiful, wouldn’t it be hard to fight? Also, what about the ugly monsters that survived fierce competition? Well, that’s not really my problem to think about.

* * *

The largest gigas wasn’t sure if her size could fit in the magic bag, but by adjusting her pose, she just barely fit. I’ll probably never take her out—it’s practically a seal. After all, gigas are the demon king’s ultimate weapon. With overwhelming strength and high intelligence, they’re said to rival dragons in combat strength.

I never imagined Schulz would capture such a powerful being. Was she more docile back then because she was a subordinate species?

I’ve unexpectedly been entrusted with the fates of many beautiful women. It’s too much responsibility, so I’ll leave their futures to Ms. Hóa. Elves are involved, after all.

Schulz happily displays his new clay statues on the empty pedestals, radiating joy. I get it—the happiness of creating something is an ultimate ecstasy.

This is a perfect chance. I place chicken eggs around Schulz. The dragon’s energy transforms the infertile eggs—if they were fertile, they’d hatch into unstoppable chicks. I carefully choose infertile ones to avoid that chaos.

”Teacher, what are you doing?” Schulz asks.

”Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Your creative energy is so strong, I had to capture it,” I reply.

”Ah, I feel a surge of good vibes. Seeing my works inspires new ideas—I’m itching to create more,” Schulz says.

Schulz needs good materials. I give him all the clay and useful items I have. In return, he gives me a pile of ancient gold coins. I’ll sell them in the royal capital and buy something he’ll love.

The capital isn’t far, so I’ll visit often. After promising to return, I leave Schulz’s nest.

The horses, left for so long, are surprisingly healthy. I should’ve removed their gear—lesson learned.
