*Mild’s Perspective
Ahead, the ruins of what appeared to be a building came into view, with the Margrave South District army sporadically visible. They had entrenched themselves in those ruins, ready to intercept us.
”Mild, what should we do? They’re entrenched. Should we use *that*?”
”The magic cannon? Yes, it’s necessary. If they’re entrenched, dealing with them will be a hassle, and we’ll suffer more casualties. Sir Yaalan said we don’t need prisoners, so it’s fine to use it first. Alright, prepare the magical cannon immediately. Everyone else, stay on alert!”
The soldiers quickly responded to the orders, assembling the magical cannon they had carried in parts. This cannon, obtained from the Abraham Empire in the Eastern Continent, could fire bullets filled with magical power. It was a weapon that converted pure magical energy into explosive force for attacks.
The Abraham Empire had deployed this cannon in large numbers, conquering neighboring countries one after another. Its formidable strength keeps it a dominant power in the Eastern Continent.
”General Mild, there seems to be a group bypassing to the south. How should we handle them?”
Malte summarized the scout’s information, but the enemy’s reaction was swift. The southern unit was likely a large flanking force, but we heard they were outnumbered. Sir Yaalan wouldn’t be defeated by a small surprise attack, so we could ignore them for now.
More problematic was the main force led by Kondrad, Garvey, and Charlotte, which seemed difficult to surround.
”Ignore the southern enemy and leave them to the Reconnaissance Unit! First, focus all our strength on attacking the main force entrenched in the ruins! Is the magical cannon team ready?”
The soldiers finished assembling the cannon and pushed it to the front. The Margrave South District army had many soldiers equipped with magical rifles. If we allowed them to close the distance, we might be picked off, so we aimed to neutralize their combat ability with the cannon first.
”Ready! General Mild, the magic cannon team is in position!”
Twenty magic cannons were assembled, and the former Abraham Empire soldiers aimed them. Once all targets were locked, the shooting commander’s flag was raised.
After confirming the preparation, the firing order was given.
”Fire!”
*Boom, boom, boom.*
The magic-filled shells were shot from the lined-up cannons toward their targets. Upon impact, the released pure magical energy randomly destroyed nearby buildings, scattering debris. After the impact, a black mist covered the area where magic had been used.
The soldiers of the Margrave South District army, caught by the sudden attack, showed surprise but were mostly not panicking. They quickly moved away from the windows and took cover in more sturdy places.
Damn. They’re well-trained. Not even a hint of shock at new weapons. Veterans are always troublesome.
Seeing the high skill level of the Margrave South District army clearly showed they were not easy opponents. The damage estimate to our forces kept rising in my mind.
”Don’t be afraid. Destroy their places of cover! No more reinforcements for the enemy! Our victory is assured! Fire again!”
The magic cannon, after reloading, fired once more. The second shot targeted the buildings, successfully destroying places where the enemy could hide. If the bombardment continued at this position, the enemy would have no choice but to abandon that area and march toward us. Once that happened, we could use our numerical advantage to push forward and surround the Abyss Gate, waiting for Kent to seal off the other world.
Then, by defeating Kent, we could raise Shifa’s banner, restore the True Demon Kingdom, finish the unification, and claim the Demon Lord’s seat, achieving continent domination. Everything hinged on this battle.
