Volume 5 Chapter 3 Naoshi / Going To Tokyo II: Not A Hero

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 Run, and running.

Crossing the Sumida River, he entered Taito Ward.

Searching for signs of ayakashi, Kazuramichi Naoshi chose a less crowded street to walk through the February town.

He relied on his own senses, not an app.

His senses, honed in real battles, sometimes surpassed the precision of the caution network created by exorcist history and technology.

 ”Tsk.”

At the street corner, he scattered a concentrated thought trying to take physical form.

Common as any other, this ayakashi, classified as a Lesser Youkai, always appeared in human territory.

But from a bird’s-eye view, their numbers seemed too great.

And up close, their abnormal quality became apparent.

Their growth rate, gathering youki right after appearance, was unusual, and their nature had biases.

Unlike ancient spirits or urban legends since the ’70s, these were youma-nano.

Highly hostile to humans, they loved raping women above all else—the latest ayakashi.

If they grew enough to affect people with little spirit power, the tragedies would surpass those caused by other ayakashi.

 (──Ah)

 Naoshi understood upon realizing this.

This place is it, he thought.

Perhaps this Kanto region is the stage of the original game, his past-life memories longingly whispered.

Comparatively, the order still seemed maintained here.

 He thought so.

Exorcists still held the initiative in this area.

Tokyo, the capital, remained the center of our protected world.

Then something would happen soon, leading to frequent critical situations for top exorcists.

”Seems lucky so far. Can’t be happy about losing ground, though.”

Naoshi brushed past a shadow clinging to a corner of the dump, muttering without stopping his feet.

There were things he wanted to do, things he had to do before.

But coming here probably meant something incredibly heavy, something that couldn’t compare to before, was about to happen—that was the promise, wasn’t it?

Whether it was luck or disaster, Naoshi concluded it was the same.

There was no point in choosing the path of escape.

Kazuramichi Naoshi would live and die as an exorcist.

If he was unwavering in his conviction, he had no choice but to fulfill his duty while seeking even a little bit of a good outcome.

Thus, Naoshi picked up his pace.

Just as he began to think about moving on to another riverbank after handling over 2 ayakashi, his feet suddenly stopped.

 ”Hm?”

A 3-story mansion with construction fencing blocking the entrance.

The schedule on the fence mentioned demolition work; he felt a faint aura emanating from the building.

Following his intuition, Naoshi lightly jumped the fence and stepped inside.

He climbed the stairs of the mansion, devoid of human presence, to the third floor, moving along the corridor to the furthest room from the stairs.

In front of the door, unlike the rooms he passed, there were clear signs that several people had been coming and going.

Without even needing to strain his ears, he could hear muffled voices from inside the room.

He carefully turned the doorknob, making sure not to make a sound.

 It was locked.

Without hesitation, Naoshi kicked the door down.

 ”!? !?”

Amidst a sudden loud noise and indistinguishable cries of anger or screams, Naoshi stepped into the room with his shoes on.

”──Hey, hey, sorry for the intrusion during an illegal entry.”

 ”Huh?”

Stepping into a 1LDK living room reeking of decay, there were several young men and women.

Apart from a few, their attire and aura suggested they were accustomed to the dark side.

Yet, the expressions on their faces were purely of surprise.

A sudden invasion, and it wasn’t unreasonable for them to have a problem with a rough-looking young man in an Inverness coat and hakama.

 ”Wha, what, you brat…”

The young man in the black knit cap quickly recovered from shock and stopped moving.

He threatened loudly and tried to stand in front of Naoshi but was forced to stop by the pressure.

”Just some quick errands. Please don’t get in the way.”

 ”────”

The knit cap man opened and closed his mouth several times as if trying to speak.

 He finally cleared the way.

Naoshi calmly looked around the room.

The fact he entered illegally, plus the scattered evidence and smells in the room, were proof of their guilt.

Of course, Naoshi’s job was not to accuse them.

As soon as the ayakashi presence was gone, he would quietly leave the apartment and report it as a citizen’s duty.

 That was his plan.

That is, until he noticed the girl, who had her skirt taken off despite it being winter, shrinking with her arms around her legs.

She wore a black mask that hid her mouth, but she did not look very old.

Surrounded by two men, trembling as they caressed her body, she glanced fleetingly at Naoshi.

 ”Little lady.”

Naoshi answered with a smile and threw his coat to her.

”Your legs are cold, huh? Use this when needed.”

He then glanced slightly at the men next to her.

When the two men trembled and slowly moved away, the girl hesitantly put the coat over her legs.

 ”Ah, thank you very much…”

”You’re welcome. Well then, excuse me for a moment…”
