Volume 14 Chapter 44 Chance For A Comeback

 *Yaalan’s Perspective

The Margrave South District army was pushed into the ruins by the long-range bombardment of Mild’s forces using magic cannons, unable to deploy their troops and effectively immobilized. Seizing the opportunity, I moved my troops into a position where we could break into the another world gate (Abyss Gate) guarded by the Margrave South District army headquarters at any time.

”All that’s left is to push the Margrave South District army into the other world, and it will be our victory. The sacrifice will be great, but with the major continental armies nearly destroyed, even a small number of troops could dominate the continent in our current state.”

Marching with my guards, I went to confirm the results of Mild’s long-range bombardment.

”Moreover, that magic cannon was a real find. A weapon that converts mana directly into attack energy to strike distant enemies—no one on this continent ever thought of such an armament. I am impressed by Sir Yaalan’s foresight.”

Yuri, who had lined up the horses, was gazing at me with a dazed expression. The magical cannon that Mild was using was a weapon discovered during my travels as a merchant guild master in the East. It was said to be something that the Abraham Empire army weaponized with their own technology from ancient ruins they excavated, but the mechanism of using mana made it seem like it could be a relic of the Fairy race that was thought to have lived on this continent.

”We must mass-produce that for the invasion of the Abraham Empire. And we should also proceed with the acquisition of the development technology for the magical firearms and related equipment held by the Margrave South District army. The victory of the battle is almost certain, so we must start thinking about post-war matters.”

”As expected of Sir Yaalan, to already be certain of victory… However, I know best that you, Sir Yaalan, only move when you have seen through to victory…”

”War is something you initiate when victory is certain. To start a war with no chance of winning, like Kent, is the sign of an incompetent ruler, third-rate at best. But this time, I must give him credit. Thanks to him, the crisis of the ‘another world monster’ has passed, and he has given me the chance to dominate the continent.”

I turned my gaze toward the direction of the another world gate (Abyss Gate) where Kent was thought to have invaded. At that moment, a sound like the rumbling of the earth reached my ears. Turning toward the source of the sound, I saw a herd of bull-like creatures with mountainous bodies charging towards us at a fierce speed.

 ”What’s going on!?”

”Reporting in! It’s a stampede by the Stampede Bulls! If you stay here, you’ll be trampled by them. Nobody can stop them!”

The scout officer, raising a cloud of dust, approached and revealed the identity of the oncoming group. The master of the dust cloud was the S-rank monster, the Stampede Bull, and if the information was accurate, facing that group head-on could potentially lead to the army’s destruction.

Looking around for a place to protect ourselves from their rampage, I realized that pushing the Margrave South District army all the way to the another world gate (Abyss Gate) had turned our army’s movement into a fatal mistake. My army’s position would result in the tiger cub’s magic cannon unit suffering tremendous damage from the Stampede Bulls.

”Don’t be afraid! Defend this position to protect the magic cannon unit! If we lose them, our army’s superiority will be gone. The front line, raise your shields and form a dense formation. We must divert their momentum!”

The soldiers, reacting to the instructions, immediately gathered in a dense formation with shields raised against the Stampede Bull group. That movement was a fully trained soldier’s action, and it was the way of those who could be called Elite Troops.

”Magic Corps, focus your magic on the legs of the Stampede Bull within range and keep firing. If they become unable to move, their rampage won’t be a threat. Aim carefully.”

The Magic Corps commanders, who were serving as attendants, simultaneously began telepathic communication, conveying the target points they aimed for. With this, the Stampede Bull’s Sudden Rush was supposed to be prevented.

 *Garvey’s Perspective

We were still exposed to the artillery bombardment from the magic gun units, but Charlotte’s forces had joined, and we were trying to find an opportunity to launch an offensive somehow. However, the density of the bombardment showed no sign of weakening, and the main force of the True Demon Dukedom army, Yaalan’s forces, had moved toward the plains, reaching a position where they could quickly attack Kondrad’s defense at the another world gate (Abyss Gate).

This… is bad. If we get pinned down here, Kondrad will be overrun in one go. We must somehow disrupt Mild’s army…
