Volume 14 Chapter 45 The Fate Of The Betraying King

*Yaalan’s Perspective
While I was distracted by the Stampede Bulls’ charge, a separate unit of the Margrave South District army that had holed up in the ruins launched a coordinated counterattack. Even the battle-hardened Mild seemed flustered by this, and some soldiers he had assigned to assist us were suddenly recalled to block the counterattack, presumably led by Garvey.
However, the formation of the troops who were hurriedly recalled became disordered and unsettled, causing gaps in the defense against the incoming Margrave South District unit. Still, I was no longer in a position to send reinforcements, so I wanted Mild and his forces to hold firm and protect the magic cannon unit at all costs.
”Sir Yaalan! The Stampede Bulls are coming! Orders to commence the magic attack from the Magic Corps!”
Yuri also sensed that the tide of battle was turning grim; the confident expression from a moment ago vanished, replaced by a surge of tension. If we mishandle this battle, we risk exposing our corpses on this ground.
How did it come to this? We should have secured a victory with perfect timing and minimal losses… But now, there’s no time to dwell on that. We must repel them and support Mild’s army at all costs.
”Magic Corps, fire individually!”
The Magicians, aiming carefully, unleashed their strongest firepower targeting the feet of the approaching Stampede Bulls. One of the bulls, which had come close to the vanguard soldiers, had its leg blown off and collapsed, rolling toward the troops. Several soldiers holding up their shields were caught and killed instantly. The Magic Corps continued their assault, and one by one, the Stampede Bulls lost their legs and lay dead before the vanguard soldiers.
However, the pressure of several hundred Stampede Bulls was too strong, and they began charging towards my main camp, knocking down the vanguard soldiers who were unable to repel them.
”Magic Corps, cease fire! Launch supporting magic to the vanguard soldiers and hold them off! We have more troops here! Target their legs! If we take out their legs, they are not the fearsome monsters they seem!”
Although the vanguard was about to be breached, the soldiers who received support from the Magic Corps showed no signs of hesitation and followed my instructions, slaughtering the incoming Stampede Bulls. However, the monsters of the Southern Region were unlike those of our country, far stronger, and many were crushed underfoot or thrown by the horns of the Stampede Bulls. Furthermore, though I had sensed something was off, it seemed that the ones who had triggered the Stampede Bulls’ rampage were the Monster Hunters. Emerging from the fallen bulls in a swarm, they fought with disturbing coordination, easily slaughtering my elite soldiers as if hunting monsters.
”Damn it! Those Monster Hunters! To hunt humans as easily as they hunt monsters…! Damn, I’ll go myself! The guards, prepare for combat! I will make them pay in blood!”
Normally, I would have handled the situation calmly, but with the battle for total victory on the verge of being overturned, I was losing my composure.
”Sir Yaalan! Didn’t you always say that it would be foolish for the overall commander to fight on the vanguard?! Trust the soldiers and take command here!”
”Yuri! This is the time for action. I must restore the soldiers’ will to fight. Hurry! We must join the vanguard soldiers!”
Ignoring Yuri’s advice, I led the guards with a frustrated heart, moving the troops to join the vanguard.

*Giuliana’s Perspective
The assault operation using the Stampede Bulls was yielding results beyond expectations. There was a magic Sniper during the assault, but the main attacks were concentrated on the Stampede Bulls, and there was no damage to the Monster Hunting riders. The Monster Hunting members, moving nimbly, coordinated with each other to slice down the enemy soldiers.
Normally, Monster Hunting members, who usually hunt monsters rather than humans, are not very good at combat against people. However, in this case, there were almost no members hesitating to slay enemy soldiers, driven by the anger of King Kent and the others, who had betrayed them by fighting the ‘another world monster’ to save humanity.
”Everyone! Don’t get too carried away and die! We only need to disrupt the True Demon Dukedom army until Kondrad and the others arrive! Be careful, or you won’t get the reward from Lord Kent if you die!”
The Monster Hunting members, responding to my shout, cheered. Garvey and the others, who had already noticed our assault, began to move toward Mild’s army, and Kondrad, sensing that this was the decisive turning point of the battle, started moving his troops toward us.
The Monster Hunting members swiftly changed their positions in battle, coordinating with each other, and like when hunting large monsters, they continued to sink the True Demon Dukedom’s soldiers into a sea of blood. However, with the movement of Yaalan’s army, which had been waiting in the rear, the soldiers at the vanguard regained their momentum, and Monster Hunting members started to be gradually slain.
Damn, looks like I can’t do as I please… Kondrad will arrive soon. I have to hold out no matter what until then…
While his heart ached at the sight of his comrades being slaughtered, he decided to take up the hammer himself and slay the enemy soldiers.

*Garvey’s Perspective
The Mild army was in disarray as they turned their reinforcements back to Yaalan. They probably didn’t expect me to shout at this timing. The crucial magic cannon unit seemed to be having trouble aiming, as the intervals between their shots were longer compared to before. Thanks to that, the damage was minimal, and we were able to engage in a chaotic battle with the Mild army. At that time, I was planning to take advantage of Mild’s tendency to always seek an escape route, so I separated Charlotte’s unit to circle around and attack from behind.
As soon as Mild realized that Charlotte was aiming for his rear, he began to panic, and the pressure on my unit rapidly decreased. Seeing an opportunity, I moved my soldiers towards the weakened magic cannon unit.
”Now’s our chance. Let’s take down that damned magic cannon unit!”
When Mild noticed that we had changed course towards the magic cannon unit, he turned his army back, but Charlotte was skillfully intercepting Mild’s army, hindering their movements.
”Alright! Mild can’t move! Let’s give it our all while we can!”
With our newfound freedom, my unit assaulted the magic cannon unit, the tiger’s cub of the True Demon Dukedom army, and one by one, we took down soldiers and captured the cannons. The magic cannon unit, subjected to fierce attacks, soon offered to surrender. We immediately disarmed and bound the captured soldiers and left them on the battlefield. Now I had to support Charlotte as soon as possible. For that, I aimed the captured cannons at the soldiers of the disrupted Mild army. Threatening a captured officer, I forced him to teach us how to use it, and my subordinates filled it with magic and pulled the trigger.
”Feel the power of the weapon you brought upon yourselves!”
Charlotte and the others were fired upon to avoid friendly fire, aiming near Mild’s army and beginning bombardment. The army of Mild, who was shocked that they were attacked with weapons they believed they had absolute confidence in and had deployed onto the battlefield, rapidly lost their will to fight, and soldiers started scattering and running away chaotically. Mild, who had been fighting to hold back the troops, also seemed to give up resistance, and a white flag was raised from the True Demon Dukedom army.
”Mild is strong against offensive tactics, but he reveals his inadequacy when defending. Well, he might be a swordsman, but he also has Dracul blood in him, after all.”
Following Yaalan, Mild, who had shown excellent cutting ability when destroying Gwain, was caught off guard, and after his precious magic cannon unit was taken away, a rapid calculation began in his mind. Before his forces were all still intact, he decided to abandon Yaalan and requested surrender.
I assigned my troops to disarm them and issued instructions for Charlotte to flank Yaalan’s army from behind. Meanwhile, Mild and his Vice-Captains, who surrendered and were captured, were brought before me.
”To surrender so willingly… Yaalan will be furious when he hears about this.”
”I do not want to die in vain. I believe that Lord Garvey would not do any cruel things, so I surrendered with my subordinates. The king’s luck that surrounded Yaalan has suddenly vanished in this battle, so you might say I tried to protect myself. If my head can save my troops, I am prepared to offer it.”
Mild, pitifully, had requested to save his troops in exchange for his own head. It was not the words of a man who said he didn’t want to die, but judging by his serious expression, it did not seem like he was lying.
