Volume 14 Chapter 50 Struggle

 *Kent’s Perspective

A grotesque creature appeared before us, its lion-like face, massive dragon-scaled body, eagle-feathered wings, and thick serpentine tail transforming in the light into a gaudy, eyesore of clashing colors.

Even its earlier silver form had proven far stronger than any monster we’d faced, leaving the Crimson Bride members injured. Lana used Healing Magic to mend their wounds, but her mana was depleted, and her face paled.

At this rate, we’re wearing down… We need to risk it all or we’ll lose.

The creature watched us with an air of leisure. Milly’s attacks, which had slaughtered countless monsters, and even the S-Rank hunters’ strikes couldn’t leave a scratch on it.

”Sir Kent, I’ll draw its attention!”

 ”I’ll help Ms. Aurelia too~”

 ”Me too!”

Aurelia, Feria, and Ines stepped forward as the vanguard, provoking the two creatures to draw their focus.

”I’ll take you down, no problem~”

Feria taunted. Irritated by Feria’s continued provocation, one creature spread its wings, scattering feathers around.

Damn! Those feathers attack on their own!

Earlier, the scattered feathers had autonomously targeted vital points, causing nagging pain and disrupting concentration. It was a persistent threat that couldn’t be ignored.

”I’ll defend against the feathers, so keep provoking them, Ms. Aurelia and Ms. Feria!”

Ines swung her large axe, knocking down the attacking feathers. Meanwhile, Aurelia and Feria used Divine Magic and Sword Technique to hold the creatures back.

”Kent, we can’t take on two at once. Focus on one at a time.”

Milly, in Demon Sergeant Mode, issued orders. While the three held one creature back, the rest prepared a concentrated attack.

”A huge one’s coming! Don’t get burned, Kent!”

Lina’s amplified fireball struck the creature, engulfing it in flames. Knowing this wasn’t enough, Carlamia fired Absolute Zero, freezing it solid.

”My lord, now’s your chance for a full-force attack.”

With the creature frozen, Milly closed in, attacking its serpentine tail with a dagger. I readied my Explode Gunlance in shooting mode.

”Sir Kent, I’ll support you with all my might.”

Flamil, who’d conserved her attacks, raised a maximum number of Fire Arrows, syncing with my shot. Her magic would boost their power, but there was no guarantee they’d take down the monster.

 ”Thanks! Match my shooting!”

 ”Understood!”

”Here we go. Three, two, one, zero!”

I fired the Explode Gunlance as Flamil’s Fire Arrows flew, raining bullets and arrows onto the frozen creature. The impact sent smoke swirling.

Meanwhile, the other creature attacked Feria’s group with feathers, light beams, and fireballs, keeping them busy. Their exhaustion was evident.

”Kent! Don’t let your guard down!”

Milly’s warning came too late. A searing pain ripped through my abdomen.

 ”Ughhh!”

Thick, needle-like spikes pierced my abdomen, dripping blood onto the ground. The creature we’d been attacking had fired them. A burning pain surged in my brain.

”Kent! Lana! Medical aid! Keep him safe!”

The spikes had pierced Golerg’s Armor, severely damaging my organs. Lana and Talia rushed to my side as Milly provided cover.

”Sorry… I let my guard down.”

”Sir Kent, don’t talk! Talia, I’ll remove the spikes first!”

 ”Yes, Master Lana.”

Lana assessed my wounds, deciding to remove the spikes before healing. Talia pulled them out all at once.

”It’s… so painful I might pass out.”

”Bear with it. We’ll heal you soon. Stay conscious!”

After the spikes were removed, Lana activated Healing Magic, enveloping me in green light.

”Sir Kent, drink this. It’s a blood-building potion to prevent anemia from rapid blood loss.”

The green liquid looked nauseating, but I had no choice. I drank it in one go, tasting its putrid, metallic flavor.

 That’s disgusting.

Damn it! All because of that gaudy monster!

”Lana, Talia. Thanks. I’m back in combat. You two, heal the others.”

The others, holding off the creatures, were further injured and unable to land a decisive blow.
