Volume 3 Chapter 121-2 Sarah Training! II

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Win it in a duel and it’s yours.”

”──Someone actually bet this magic sword!? No way… In Azrael’s territory, something like this would be officially managed.”

”Well, this magic sword’s strike has enough power to obliterate a mediocre fortress wall or so.”

As for Azrael, only a few of the most advanced-ranked warrior monks like Sarah are loaned such weapons, and only for crucial assassination missions or similar tasks.

”If you sold this magic sword, you could buy vast land in Dacia, right?”

 ”Is it that expensive?”

”A magic sword at the level of strategic weaponry. Negotiate with King Franz’s family, and they’ll buy it at the asking price. ──By the way, who made it?”

”That’s a difficult question. According to Izerland’s laws, since it was reforged from scratch, the creator is likely Lord Guy.”

 ”Lord Guy made it!?”

Sarah narrowed her eyes in surprise and pressed closer.

She grabbed Kian’s shoulder and shook him.

”I thought it was impossible, but I knew it ── that means you defeated Lord Guy and got the Windsong Blade!?”

”No, the one whom I defeated was his father, Renaud.”

”────────. You’ve been alive all this time, haven’t you?”

”Honestly, if Oswald hadn’t stepped in to stop me, I’d probably be dead by now.”

”The life of my childhood friend is too much of a tightrope walk, it’s scary. Why can’t you live more safely?”

”Fate wouldn’t let me do that.”

Sarah responded, “Fate doesn’t come passively.” She didn’t seem to believe that, but that’s what she thought.

”Shall we return to training soon?”

The conversation had gone on too long, and she was already getting cold.

Besides, even though the night was long, if they continued chatting like this, morning might come.

They should finish what they needed to do before continuing the chat.

Sarah nodded and reshaped the rock sword.

And so ── the two faced each other again and resumed their dangerous training.

* * *

After that, they had ten more duels, but surprisingly, Kian succeeded in taking the first one. The reason he managed to win the very first match, despite not having landed a hit until then, was that Kian, though not entirely convinced, fought mainly with basic techniques as Sarah had advised.

The ‘Leap’ that distorts the physical laws within the body to increase speed,

 and ‘Impact’, which enhances weapons.

It was a dull fight, just repeatedly clashing with swordsmanship trained up close.

However, it was the style Kian was most accustomed to, and since he didn’t use any advanced techniques, his moves weren’t read, preventing him from receiving a heavy counterattack. All he had to do was casually let the pre-movement of ‘Pursuit of the Shadow’ flicker to avoid getting separated by more than necessary (‘Pursuit of the Shadow’ reaches maximum speed between the second and third steps, so taking unnecessary distance is dangerous). Once close enough, Sarah used a throw technique of the Western warrior she had never seen before and slammed him onto the stone floor.

Sarah, stunned, looked down at the rock sword pressed to her neck ── and grimaced with apparent frustration. “To think Kian would take one with just one hit,” she muttered, genuinely shocked, then persistently questioned the details of the throw. Sarah’s stubbornness and childishness were the same as always.

From then on, it became a grueling match of jostling and throwing techniques, and before they knew it, the tenth match had ended.

The time was just past 2 in the morning, and feeling a bit hungry, they took a night snack break.

The two sat side by side on the stairs at the entrance of the ancient temple, gazing at the beautiful starry sky and the swamp where Bloodsucking Kind prowled, munching on dried meat and hard bread.

”──What are the two of you doing at this hour?”

 ”Good evening, Rean.”

”Good evening, Mr. Rean. That’s also my line,”

After gazing at the starry sky for a while, footsteps were heard from the corridor, and Rean’s characteristic muddy-like magic power could be felt. Because of that, it was known in advance that he would come here.

Kian and Sarah both looked back at the corridor behind them without any particular surprise.

Rean was wearing black armor and holding a black magic sword, frowning with a wary expression. He seemed to have sensed the situation from the strangely close distance between the two and the fact that Sarah’s fingertips were touching Kian’s hand. “Sorry, I disturbed you,” he said, attempting to jump to the slope of the mountain from Kian’s side.

 ”Wait, Mr. Rean.”

 ”…What is it?”

”What is it? Don’t be like that!”

Sarah raised her arched eyebrows and stood up from the edge of the rocky floor.

”Where do you think you’re going at this hour?”

”Hunting. I’ll kill about a hundred in the swamp.”

 ”Again?”

”You have no reason to stop me. The Bloodsucking Kind will decrease. I will grow stronger. After I’ve hunted a certain number, I’ll return to my sleeping place.”

”Tomorrow, I’ll set up a trap for the teleportation gate the Barghest built to travel between the ‘Storm Herd’ camp. And also for the wedge I carved into the Spiritual Vein. You need to rest properly, or we won’t be able to work.”

”I’ll return the favor exactly. You don’t need to worry about me. I’ll perfectly complete the work I’ve been instructed to do. There will be no disruption to the work.”

”Even if that’s true, charging into a swarm of Bloodsucking Kind at night is suicide.”

”I won’t lose. Kian, you understand my strength, don’t you?”

 ”Well, I do.”

Rean snorted and released a dark magic power from his body. Then, the black armor he was wearing swelled up, and the part that had been hanging down from his neck to his back like a hood turned into a sinister-looking beast’s helmet, completely covering Rean’s head.

It was a disturbing helmet with giant eyeballs on either side of the head. He opened a mouth with shark-like teeth, which was part of the helmet.

”Ms. Sarah. Don’t worry about me.”

 ”……!”

 ”Hey, Rean. Can’t you sleep?”

”I just want the soul of a beast. I need to hunt, Kian.”

”I see. Take care of yourself. It would be sad if you were all battered when Ms. Vestacia wakes up.”

 ”──None of your business.”

Rean said only that, then bent his knee wrapped in armor. After a leap, he kicked off the rocky ground with astonishing leg power and jumped high toward the starry sky.

 Groooarrrr, and.

A roar reminiscent of an animal’s lament echoed through the darkness of the night.

Before long, it was visible that the red eyes of predators prowling the swamp were being ruthlessly crushed by a savage berserker.

 ”What was that. Really creepy.”

Sarah muttered with disgust appearing on her face.

”He mercilessly hits girls’ faces and punches them away, it’s impossible, that person.”

”For now, even there, in East End and Izerland, he’s in an idol position.”

”No way!? His face is certainly attractive, but his inside is the worst, isn’t it.”

”Girls don’t care about what’s inside.”

Ninini and Vestacia might care perhaps a little. In Lyritisse’s case, she holds feelings of worship and admiration for him, so she tends not to look at Rean properly compared to ordinary girls. As for Esther, her focus seems entirely elsewhere. She’s more concerned with whether he’s adventurous or energetic enough to match her *lively* personality.

”Shall we go back to the original plan?”

”Depends on Barghest’s story. After that, negotiations with the Spirit of Black Onyx. If there’s no hope, we have no choice but to hand him over to the Guild as it is. The rest is up to the Beastmen Union, the Guild, and the Izerland government to handle.”

”It started as a simple rescue mission, but it’s turned into a pretty complicated story…”

”Yeah. Honestly, the reward doesn’t match the effort. Considering the Guild points triple bonus period, it’s a very risky job.”

”Getting involved with a strange warrior monk, too?”

”That’s right. The mysterious warrior monk who was with Linca said he would kill me. If we stay here for too long, there might be a rematch with him.”
