Volume 3 Chapter 121 Sarah Training! II
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Hmm, this is tough. Manipulating the physical laws inside my body to accelerate is fine, but repairing and reinforcing my body from the backlash is hard.”
After watching Kian’s *Pursuit of the Shadow* several times, Sarah sighed as she attempted to replicate the same technique. Kian took a short break, observing Sarah as she zipped back and forth in the corridor at high speed.
”The principle is simple, right?”
”Yes, but reaching a practical level is difficult. This… Ah!”
”…! Sarah!”
Sarah failed to time and strengthen her reinforcement properly, causing her joints to lock like sticks. As a result, she stumbled and crashed headfirst into the floor.
A series of loud, unmistakably deadly sounds rang out, and Sarah, bloodied, was thrown onto the floor in a heap.
”Heh, I’m fine.”
”Idiot…! You’re being too reckless. You’ll fail like this at first, so you should do it at a speed just a little faster than *Leap*.”
”Ah, yes, yes. I understand.”
Sarah’s tone clearly indicated she didn’t understand as she applied healing to her own body. If she were human, she would have been mortally wounded, but she quickly regenerated.
”This body is convenient. I can practice *Pursuit of the Shadow* as many times as I want.”
”Seriously, Sarah…”
”Why are you pulling back?”
Even though he was asked why, there’s just too little fear of pain or death. She’s always been decisive, but it was a bit scary how determined she was once she decided on something.
’You’re the one saying that?’
(I’m normal.)
’Normal humans don’t fight Oswald or charge at the Storm Herd alone…’
”Sorry. I ended up doing something I could do alone during our two-person training.”
”It’s fine. The day hasn’t changed yet, and there’s plenty of time.”
”Yeah. But I’ll do the rest during the daytime breaks. The principle is simple, and I’ve got the hang of the mindset, so it’s just a matter of repeating it to improve the accuracy.”
Sarah stood up and shook off her bloodstained clothes.
”Then, it’s my turn to show you *Thunder*.”
”Is that okay?”
”We promised. So, watch me.”
As Kian nodded and stepped aside, Sarah held the sword of rock and let out a surge of black magic power from her back—Azrael’s wings of death. The black magic power spread in a cubic shape as Sarah’s body disappeared, and multiple flashes ran like lightning.
After a few seconds, the dark clouds cleared, leaving only Sarah standing with her sword at the ready in the center of the area.
”Wow! That’s cool!”
”Such a childlike impression. Don’t you have any other reactions?”
”Isn’t it a bit fast? Natra’s seemed to take longer to charge.”
”That’s because I’m quick to focus.”
Sarah brought her free hand—her right—to her chest, generating a *Wall*, *Thread*, and a mysterious transparent needle on her palm, flowing like a stream.
”As you can see, the time I need for *Thunder* is shorter than the time you need for *Pursuit of the Shadow*.”
”*Thunder* is a technique that covers the opponent with black magic power and wipes out all enemies within the range, after all. I heard that during activation, the user’s body hitbox disappears as well.”
”Yes. Therefore, if I can see your preparatory movements for *Pursuit of the Shadow*, I can just shoot *Thunder*. I’ll wipe out the place where you so rudely intrude and end it.”
”Isn’t *Thunder* strong after all? The effect of guaranteed hits on the opponent captured in the black clouds is powerful, but the effect of not being able to receive attacks during activation is pretty dangerous. It’s almost invincible.”
”Don’t use the word ‘dangerous.’ It makes your vocabulary sound weak.”
Sarah lowered her eyebrows as she said that, then continued with a serious face.
”The weaknesses of *Thunder* are that the charging time is long, the effective range is visually clear, and there’s a long gap after using it. Also, it takes a long time to learn because the principle is complex, and it consumes a lot of magic power.”
”The principle is complex…”
”I’ll explain if you’re serious about learning it. But I don’t think it’ll be of any use to you even if you do learn *Thunder*.”
”Wh, why!? I want to use *Thunder* too. I want to disappear into the black mist and slash around with *whoosh whoosh* sounds!”
”Did you forget? Your technique activation speed is very slow.”
”Ah…”
Sarah shrugged.
”Even if you work hard to learn it, you’ll end up exposing a huge gap before activation. Or rather, they can see the black effective range and move out of it. If they can avoid it, you’ll end up exposing an even bigger gap. In conclusion, activating *Thunder* will lead to your death.”
”Th, that’s…”
He slumped his shoulders in disappointment. He understood what Sarah was saying, and it was all the more regrettable.
”Why do boys always want to use flashy techniques? Val also loved flashy techniques like *Tear* and *Blast*. I really told him he’d die if he kept using big moves.”
”Val is the kid I killed. I, I’m sorry.”
”Ah… No. That’s not what I meant.”
Sarah waved her hands back and forth, seemingly wanting to change the subject.
”You have the Windsong Blade, so isn’t it fine to just use that for everything?”
”What do you mean?”
”Just wrap it with *Leap* and keep slashing with the Windsong Blade. Your proficiency with *Leap* is very high, and the Windsong Blade has fatal attack power even without techniques like *Impact* or *Tear*.”
”But if they can escape out of range, or if I’m facing multiple enemies, I’ll need applied techniques like *Blast* or *Tear*.”
”In either case, you can just erase it with a single blow from Windsong’s Magic Sword.”
”But in town or on the street—”
”Silent output. That much can be done, right?”
”No, well…”
Kian leaned his eyebrows in disgust at Sarah’s unconventional advice.
”That’s right…! That’s not true!”
”What do you mean?”
Sarah tilted her head. She picked up the Windsong Blade Kian had left on the rock bed and drew it from its sheath. Tonight, the Windsong Blade made a serene, quiet sound.
”No matter how many times I watch it, it’s a really magic sword. It looks a bit grotesque.”
”Is that so? I think it’s cool.”
Sarah swung the sword around, then flashed it from the exit of the ancient temple toward the void.
The Windsong Blade made a dangerous sound as a wind blade covered in cold air flew through the night sky. This isn’t a single blow from the Magic Sword but a medium-range magic attack it possesses. If you pass magic power into the sword from the beginning, it activates without effort.
The power is incredible. If the wind blade hits directly, even Western Warriors with enhanced physical abilities would be cut down. Even a glancing blow would cause serious damage due to the freeze effect.
Furthermore, it’s excellent in defense, automatically disabling enemy long-range attacks and wind magic. Thanks to this, Almeisa’s arrows didn’t hit, and Natra’s *Blast* never let his head go and die.
”It’s got a lot of performance, isn’t it? The downside is that it’s a bit chatty and looks bad.”
”It doesn’t look bad either.”
”Hey, where did you get this magic sword?”
Sarah sheathed the Windsong Blade and returned it. Kian received the sword and leaned against the wall of the ancient temple.
