More than a year had passed since the battle against the “another world monsters” ended, after many people lost their lives. Every country needed time to heal and recover. They had to fill the gaps left by those who died, from regular monster hunters to powerful leaders like kings. The True Demon Dukedom, the Black Dragon Dukedom, and the the Eastern Garuda Principality, three countries got new rulers.
The True Demon Dukedom lost its king, Yaalan. They followed the advice of Chancellor Felia and General Mild and welcomed Flamil as their new queen. Flamil is the daughter of the former True Demon King and carries the spirit of their first ancestor, Fortesia. This made the True Demon Dukedom a vassal state of the True Demon Kingdom again.
The Black Dragon Dukedom lost Princess Fabulanova. Her daughter, Delprius, became the new ruler. Fabulanova’s uncle, Ugno, removed their political rival, Nord. Nord was forced to leave but later showed his skills under Chancellor Lila of the Margrave South District. This event proved that the nation could adapt and use anyone’s abilities, no matter who they were. The Eastern Garuda Principality also lost its king and chancellor, causing a lot of chaos. However, with Terry, who carries the child of Nokin, supported by Repulus and Porcha, and with the help of Elkisa, the Beast King Priestess, they stayed independent. They remained a vassal of the True Demon Kingdom while keeping their own identity.
Amid all these big changes, a year passed quickly. The Margrave South District suffered greatly in the war, losing many lives and weakening its strength. But after a year, it started to recover. The area from Felward Fortress to the another world gate (Abyss Gate) saw far fewer monsters because of the war. The colonies set up by Kent’s policies were also starting to work well.
These colonies were made by bringing people from different parts of the Demon Continent. The people from the hidden village, who had protected Arsella’s barrier at the Abyss Gate, built a new village. The area with the gate was named Rootless Weed (Deracine) Hill. King Kent was asked to take care of the memorial monument and altar there.
”A year has already passed… it went by so fast…. Rosalinda. Am I doing okay as a king?”
A man, looking much older than he did a year ago, placed white flowers on the altar of the memorial monument. Then he saluted it by placing his hand on his chest, the way people do in the Kingdom.
”Kent, you are a strong king, and I’m telling Rosalinda that too. You don’t need to worry.”
Standing behind Kent was Iska, gently rubbing her large belly. It was very noticeable now, almost ready for the baby to be born.
”Yeah, it helps to hear that from you, Iska. I still can’t sleep at night thinking I could have fought better.”
”Kent, you did your best in the fight. You can be proud as the Hero who saved the world. Everyone who fought in that battle knows you gave it all. Don’t listen to those who didn’t fight. Also, we should decide on a name for the baby soon. It might be a problem if it’s too much like me.”
The baby moving inside Iska’s belly was Kent’s child, conceived after the war.
”I think ‘Rosalica’ is a good name. What do you think?”
”‘Rosalica’… that’s a nice name. I’ll work hard too so Rosalica grows up to be a good child.”
Iska is helping the village built by the people from the hidden village. Until recently, she had been fighting monsters around the area with the Monster Hunters living there. She has the title of concubine, but Abyss Vena says it doesn’t suit her, so she lives in the most remote village.
Kent understands Iska’s wishes and lets her be the priestess of the memorial monument. He visits a few times a month to check on things.
”Since you’re in your last month of pregnancy, Lana told me to stop you from fighting monsters too. Don’t push yourself too hard.”
”Yeah, I get it. Ms. Milly also warned me strongly, so I’ll take maternity leave starting this month.”
”Good, do that. But we’ve already decided to send a skilled Hunting Group in your place.”
Even though fewer monsters appear now, they still show up, and many “another world monsters” that escaped during the battle are still around. It will take more time before this land is completely safe.
”By the time this child grows up, we need to make sure this village is safe from monsters and ‘another world monsters.’”
”Yeah, I’ll work hard to make the entire Margrave South District safe. Fulfilling the wishes of those who died──that’s what I have to do.”
”I’m counting on you. If we make this era brighter and easier for these children, I’ll help as much as I can.”
Iska leaned affectionately on Kent. At that moment, a warm breeze seemed to brush past their cheeks, and the white flowers on the altar were carried away by the wind.
Later, the village founded by Iska and the others grew into the city of Deracine in the Margrave South District. Its name was recorded in history as the second most important city after the capital, Abyss Vena. And the hill of Deracine was long remembered as the place of fierce battles for humanity’s survival.
