Volume 3 Chapter 126-4 The Wandering Straight Punch III
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Yes. When using ‘Skyrend,’ the sword becomes useless. This curved sword didn’t have mithril in its core, so the middle part wore out completely. After that, the mithril blade cracked, and during the Secret Technique, the magic went out of control.”
”How did you even manage to crack the mithril…?”
It happened because of Sarah’s strong magic power and the force from releasing her aura.
Sarah, looking sorry, fidgeted with the hand she had placed on her knee.
Her large breasts, noticeable even through her leather armor, moved as she did.
”I’m sorry… Um, I’ll pay for the damage.”
”Then it’s 30 Gold Coins.”
”Thirty Gold Coins from Franz? That can’t be right. Seventy Gold Coins is the minimum.”
”Is that so?”
That means Guy must have sold the mithril sword to Kian for less than half its normal price.
Lord Guy, I apologize── Kian silently apologized in his heart.
(I’ll work hard to save money and buy weapons from Guy again.)
”That disgusting enemy made things tough. It kept flying around and attacking from far away, so I had no choice but to use ‘Skyrend’ over and over until I hit it. I’m sorry.”
”No weapon is worth your life. By the way, when you say ‘that disgusting enemy,’ are you talking about the girl you mentioned ‘Christophora’?”
”Who else could it be?”
Sarah sighed.
”She used to visit my house as an envoy for Lord Jibril. Because of Lord Jibril, the Nakash family was treated badly by the other Twelve Divine Generals’ families, and we had many political problems. Each time, she would demand unfair things in exchange… It was like a punishment for not following Lord Jibril.”
”It seems like Jibril is the real problem, not that girl.”
”That’s right. But I think few people would think ‘what a nice kid’ after seeing someone use their father’s power to make rude demands and mock everyone before leaving. I didn’t say anything for my father’s sake, but… honestly, I wanted to grab his face and slam him onto the floor with all my strength.”
”I-I see. Sarah, your way of thinking is bold.”
Sarah looked into Kian’s eyes and spoke.
”What do we do now, Kian? What about the people we left behind?”
”I think Rean can be saved unless he’s completely destroyed. Serena and Mrs. Colinna are alive but captured by the warrior monks. As for Ms. Ninini, it’s doubtful if she’s still alive. Barghest too. Saving them… is probably not possible.”
”It was just after I left the Hall…”
”If you hadn’t come to rescue me, I’d have been killed by Linca by now.”
Hearing Kian’s words, Sarah looked down at her hands in her lap, thinking.
”Now I understand why Lord Jibril sent her to Nordende. It was to save him if Barghest failed.”
”Or maybe, he wanted to steal the research results. The collaborator in Barghest’s story is probably…”
”Given the situation, it’s most likely Lord Jibril.”
Sarah nodded and continued.
”It was too quick from the time we captured Barghest to when Linca and the others attacked. They must have been watching ‘Storm Herd’ while pretending to be collaborators. Since Barghest didn’t do something usual, they probably noticed something was wrong and sent their forces.”
She kept talking.
”This is something I heard from Barghest, but his research made big progress in the past 3 months. Thanks to Mrs. Hariette and the others opening a gate to another world to revive Ozeas, they collected materials and cells from monsters and mutated creatures. Based on that, they succeeded in creating parasites that temporarily make people immortal.”
”So, are you saying the tentacle monster used Ms. Lyritisse as a host?”
”Probably. It’s ironic that research on immortality advanced after Ozeas died.”
Sarah kept talking.
”He also sent special creatures into the Margrave’s capital. These parasites give their hosts amazing healing powers and make them hard to kill, even if their head is cut off. But in return, the body changes a lot because of the cells and toxins they produce, and they become less smart. Sadly, it wasn’t for people who want to live forever, but it could be used in battles. With help from his allies, he attacked Princess Maribel’s office to force Ramsey to remove Lord Owl. It failed because of you, but given how strong those creatures were, the attack could have succeeded.”
”That creature was strong. We only managed because Natra, Lord Renaud, and I were there.”
”If Kian and the others hadn’t been there, I think Gao and the royal guards could have handled it, but with such basic equipment, they probably couldn’t hurt a Burgkain clone much.”
”Getting back to what we should do, I think we should temporarily retreat to the ancient temple of Erynys.”
Sarah looked a bit worried before saying that.
”Probably, Ms. Serena and the others are less likely to be killed. Since they are valuable Wolfmen, they’ll likely be taken back alive. Ms. Linca and the others probably think the same.”
”That’s hopeful. But I agree we should retreat. We have no supplies or weapons.”
”I agree.”
Sarah, covered in blood, was unarmed and in light clothing.
Kian only had the Windsong Blade and innerwear.
’Silver Ice’, ‘Nightshade’, a spare long sword, blast powder, poison, and even food and survival gear were all left behind at the ancient temple.
Honestly, with this equipment, even getting through the Great Forest would be very hard.
Fighting Linca and Shura again would be impossible.
”Actually, there was a puppet of Jibril among the enemies, trying to capture me. If I return to the ancient temple again, I might be captured this time. That’s why going back is too dangerous.”
”I see. Lord Jibril himself was in command, huh? No wonder they’re strong. The reason you survived against Ms. Linca was because they wanted to capture you, right?”
”Unfortunately, yes.”
Sarah nodded.
”Once Wing Cain, who went to find Mr. Rean, returns, we will retreat to the Great Forest. We will cross the forest and return to the ancient temple of Erynys. Since even the Twelve Divine Generals have appeared, after that, we’ll leave it to Princess Maribel and the Guild Master.”
”You’re right. I never expected it to end like this.”
”Just be glad you’re alive, Kian.”
”Yeah… hmm.”
”What’s wrong?”
”Wing Cain is flying over here. It’s the one I made into a pet.”
Kian stood up and said this, causing Sarah to reply with a serious expression, “I see.”
”Given the time, Mr. Rean must have been eaten by the monsters. He was crazy and deserved to die, but considering his achievements, it’s sad.”
”No, the Wing Cain who returned is a different one. It’s the one I lent to Sven and the others when they were dealing with Yelmar.”
Kian said this and walked toward the exit of the courtyard.
There was a barrier at the old fortress, but it seemed Wing Cain had spotted Kian, as it landed on the collapsed stone wall without hesitation.
A noticeable red cloth was wrapped around its neck, with the words ‘Pet’ written in Kian’s handwriting.
It was definitely one of the items lent to Sven and the others.
Wing Cain had white cloth around his feet and a large square box hanging from them.
”It’s from Yelmar.”
First, he untied the cloth and read the text written on it.
Sarah also peeked from beside Kian and quickly read the text.
The cloth mentioned that Yelmar’s client had a direct request for Kian and the others.
It was from the person Yelmar had asked him to meet and talk with earlier.
”We don’t have the strength to handle Yelmar’s client’s request right now.”
”Let’s at least read the request. ──A golem?”
”Yes. The kind used often for communication in Azrael.”
Sarah reached for the round rock on top of the large square box.
When she touched it, the golem’s magic circuit lit up, and it clicked as its round body opened.
From inside, a fancy quill made of peacock feathers emerged and wrote words on the stone ground of the old fortress. Whether it was special ink or not, the words glowed faintly orange.
Jibril plans to take Barghest and others, along with their research results, back to his country.
This is important information that could lead to the military use of the ancient biological weapon, Burgkain, and must be stopped.
Until crossing Dacia from the ancient temple, teleportation magic cannot be used.
Therefore, Jibril and the others plan to use dragonflies to move people, materials, and research results.
Kian Vahid.
Sarah Nakash.
You are to ambush the group sent by Jibril and steal Barghest’s research results.
The reward will be 300 Gold Coins from Azrael.
Additionally, as an advance payment, we will send equipment worth 60 Gold Coins.
Please accept it.
Kian and Sarah turned their eyes to the square box.
A sound of something turning on came from the box, and the lid immediately popped open.
There, neatly fastened with belts, were the task-use monk robes and 2 black shamshir wielded by Azrael’s warrior monk, along with several dark throwing weapons.
