Volume 6 Chapter 26-2 I Made A Friend Of The Heart

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Before the carriage stopped, the old man carefully avoided the horses and ran over. He slipped his toes under the wheel on purpose, tripping himself.

What the hell?

From inside the stopped carriage, Baron’s sharp voice shouted out loud.

 ”What are you dawdling for!”

The manor’s driveway was only a few dozen steps away. He could have walked there himself.

 ”No, someone suddenly jumped out.”

”Ignore that dirty old man! More importantly, there should be no scratches on my noble carriage.”

Reluctantly, Baron slowly stepped down from the carriage.

Baron Toyata was very fat. If Mr. Chaa was a piglet, then Baron was a big pig. A classic pig noble from anime.

Despite his appearance, he spoke clearly and sharply, with a voice that cut through the air.

The old man yelled, “You wicked noble! To bully a weak old person—what’s the color of your blood? On behalf of the heavens, we Hero Knights will punish you! Count your sins!”

Suddenly, three figures stepped forward from across the street. The so-called Hero allies, pretending to be friends of justice, cut in.

Both Baron and I froze in place.

This is too perfect, I thought. The timing is too good to be a coincidence. They must be working with the old man.

The three drew their swords without hesitation and moved toward Baron.

The coachman and servants who appeared at the manor’s gate just watched quietly.

Normally, wouldn’t they protect their master? Was Baron that unpopular?

Baron trembled when he saw the swords. Clearly, brute strength scared him.

The three threatened Baron, likely to extort some money. A pitiful scene.

”Wait! I saw that old man try to get hit by the carriage on purpose! He’s an ambush thief.”

 One of the three sneered.

”What are you, some rookie summoned out of nowhere?”

Their faces twisted in anger as they glared at me.

If they were allies of justice, why were they so hostile?

I had seen this kind of person many times. I was used to it.

They looked like newcomers. Their cheap armor showed no real battle experience.

Their plate mail was thin and weak—more for show than protection. A cheap leather armor would serve better. But they cared about looks first.

 I understood that feeling.

 I spoke quickly.

”Oh, I don’t know who you are, but ally with me. It’s a duel! Defeat these rude people. I will reward you for your efforts.”

I regretted stepping in too late.

Thanks to foolish Baron, this had turned into a duel challenge.

Even if they were rookies, summoned newcomers likely had cheat skills related to combat.

If this became a real fight, I could not handle it alone.

Yakou and Salamander might dominate, but I didn’t want to waste my trump cards here.

One of the trio said, “You’re a noble, and the suspect’s a commoner. No duel needed. Trial will bring out the truth because officials cannot lie.”

Baron just blinked at us, confused.

”Hey, what are you doing taking charge by yourself?”

”Aren’t you supposed to be allies of the passing justice? Is trial inconvenient?”

”For the Lord and the Realm”

The three were foolish, but the old man dramatically clutching his legs suddenly fled.

Their quick retreat surprised me. It was sharp for amateurs.

They might have done this kind of thing in Japan too.

”Hohoho,” Baron laughed, “what a trivial bunch. Before the majesty of a great noble like me, such people must flee.”

He clearly could not judge the situation.

”Um, yes. I have something to discuss with Your Excellency Baron.”

”What is it? You’re still here? No reward for you. You did nothing.”

 Baron was definitely an idiot.

”I want to meet with you. I heard Your Excellency Baron is a hearty eater, so I prepared this for you.”

I showed him a special quail roast on a silver tray from a magic bag.

The real special treat was too good for this occasion, so I saved it for later.

”What is that? A magic bag? If so, why didn’t you say so earlier? I’ll hire you for a high salary.”

Showing the magic bag to Baron was within reason.

I had discussed this with Miss Floria already, so there should be no problem.

As the quail came into view, Baron’s face changed.

 First joy, then surprise.

Suddenly, he looked serious and stared at me.

”No, this quail! Impossible! Call the cooks! The head chef too! Prepare a feast worthy of this supreme quail! My dear friend, please put that quail away for a little longer.”

 His attitude shifted mysteriously.

He had suddenly promoted me to being a “heart friend” of Baron.

 Why?

And what exactly was a “heart friend”?
