Volume 1 Chapter 12 Escape Battle! vs Holy Knight Tiet
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Hey, Klock! What the hell are you doing?! Are you out of your damn mind?!”
”Shut it! That guy is a knight from the Hero’s party! Can’t you see that?!”
Klock shouted without thinking. He didn’t mean “look and see.” He meant “figure it out.”
Boit finally noticed the danger and understood how bad the situation was.
”No way… This can’t be happening…”
They had moved fast. They took the shortest path. Maybe they wasted one day yesterday—but they should’ve had more time. So how did they catch up?
Klock clicked his tongue.
He thought they wouldn’t be followed unless the other side knew exactly where to go.
Now he wished they had just snuck onto a ship from the start. That one extra day had cost them.
”Hey! Wagon! Over here!”
Boit shouted. Klock turned his head, shocked.
They had reached the main road. A wagon was coming from the left. Boit saw it and ran.
Horses were faster than running.
Boit dashed toward the wagon. Klock turned around and followed.
”Are you in a hurry, sir?” the coachman asked.
”Move!!”
Boit grabbed the coachman by the collar and threw him off the wagon.
The man hit his head and groaned on the ground.
Klock caught up and saw it all. He felt a bit sorry for the guy—but now wasn’t the time to care.
”Klock! Get on!”
”Don’t call my name now, idiot!!”
Klock jumped onto the back of the wagon.
Boit whipped the reins.
He wasn’t a pro, but he had traveled on foot for years. He knew how to handle a horse.
”Whoa—hot! HOT!!”
”What is it now?!”
Klock dropped the scroll he was holding. Flames wrapped around it and burned fast.
”Hey! Boit! The scroll you gave me—it’s on fire! Did you give me a broken one?!”
”No way! If it’s burning, that means the monster was defeated!”
”…Huh?”
Boit’s eyes widened. Klock’s face turned serious too.
That scroll had summoned a Siren. A strong beast. It should have lasted longer.
If the scroll burned that fast…
That meant the enemy crushed the Siren in under a minute.
Then—
A loud explosion ripped through the street.
The wooden gate behind them shattered into dust.
Klock turned his head. He saw a huge bird turn to light and vanish. Then, something faster cut through the smoke—metal clashing, chasing them down.
”They’re here!! They’re here!!”
”No way! They’re way too fast!!”
Behind them, the knights appeared.
Metal boots hit the ground. Their long hair flew behind them. Cold faces showed no emotion.
They didn’t scream or rage. They simply ran, hunting evil.
”Klock!! Break through the gate!!”
Boit yelled. The wagon hit the steps and jumped.
Klock held on tight.
The two gate guards at the east side didn’t stop them.
They watched the wagon rush past, then looked at each other.
”What was that…?”
Before they could move, something else passed by—fast.
Too fast. Like a trap left by a fox.
Klock and Boit entered the port town through the north gate.
But they couldn’t run straight north. There was a checkpoint that way.
Their only choice was to go east—to the Albirgo Plain.
”Boit! Go faster!!”
”I can’t! The horse is getting tired!”
”Then do something! They’re catching up!”
Klock yelled. But yelling didn’t give the horse more strength.
They left the town road and entered the wide plain.
The ground was smooth. No hills. A good path for carriages.
But if they couldn’t get farther ahead now, they’d get caught.
”Boit! Give me another beast scroll!”
”What?! I only gave you one! That was it!”
”Then give me a monster or something!”
”I’m not carrying something that crazy!!”
Boit’s answer made sense.
He was a merchant, not a mage.
He sold scrolls—he didn’t use them.
And owning a monster could get him arrested.
Klock looked back. A girl was chasing them.
She wore iron armor. She was small, but the pressure she gave off was deadly.
She was from the Hero’s party.
She was the knight who once crushed a man into a wall like a bug.
They had no chance in a fight. They had to escape.
”Boit, what kind of beast was that… ‘Ketsu-something’?”
”Quetzalcoatl! I think it’s a giant snake! Maybe!”
Neither of them knew much about it.
But that didn’t matter. The scroll could be used by anyone.
Klock pulled it from his coat.
The knight girl, still 30 meters away, saw it. Her eyes narrowed.
”Klock! There are trees ahead! Use it when we pass them!”
He looked forward. Yes—trees.
If they summoned the beast right after passing through, it might block the path.
Klock opened the scroll.
”Now!!”
”Come! Quetzalcoatl!!”
The scroll glowed. Magic light burst out.
A black hole tore open in the air. Something huge came out.
”Whoa!! This is bad!!”
A long, thick body covered in black-blue lines slammed into the ground.
The 4-meter trees bent and snapped.
The earth shook. Dust flew.
The thing was massive. At least 20 meters long.
A monster no normal man could deal with.
Boit stared in shock. Klock fell backward.
Even if he was a villain, summoning something like this was too much.
”We have to run now!”
”O-okay… But it’s too big…”
Boit recovered fast. Klock didn’t.
He was scared by his own magic.
Klock had never seen a real mythical beast.
To him, this was a nightmare come to life.
”Will that girl die?”
”Yeah… maybe. But if she dies, we won’t get blamed. No proof.”
Klock didn’t say it out loud.
He was a thief, a woman-using scumbag. But he wasn’t a killer.
That’s why bar owners still let him in if he paid.
That’s why he didn’t kill Adelina’s old master.
Right now, Klock felt sorry for that knight girl.
But it was done.
They were safe now.
He stood up, took a breath—
A sword slash tore across his chest.
”AHH—DAMN!!”
”What happened?!”
Blood sprayed in front of his eyes.
He was cut. For real.
Where did it come from?! Was it her?! How?!
His thoughts raced—then stopped.
The giant snake… was splitting in half.
”No way…”
That beast was not something a human could kill.
Yet someone had done it.
If such a person existed…
They weren’t human.
A heavy sound shook the air.
Something ran toward them, fast.
No blood on her. Not even a scratch.
The knight girl held her sword.
And she ran straight at them.
”No no no no!! She’s a monster!!”
Klock screamed.
Even Boit froze, stunned.
The knight had used magic or skill—or something—and sliced through Quetzalcoatl with one strike.
And now… she was coming for them.
”Boit! Boit?! Do we have anything left?! Anything?!”
Character Notes:
• Boit – A merchant involved in human trafficking, with a villainous face and a loud, obnoxious voice. He is pragmatic and willing to help Klock escape the country in exchange for something. His relationship with Klock is business-like, though both are aware of each other’s illicit activities.
• Adelina – The slave girl.
