Volume 1 Chapter 12-2 Escape Battle! vs Holy Knight Tiet

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Shut up! Don’t freak out over something like this!”

”Huh?! Who’s scared?! I’ll kill you first!!”

In a corrupt world, being looked down on meant losing everything. When someone snapped at you, snapping back was just how things went—even if it could cost your life.

It didn’t help the situation, not really. But acting tough made you feel less weak. Klock, whose courage was fading fast, tried to think of a way out. He had nothing. No weapons. No plan. Only one wildcard: the guy driving.

 He looked to Boit.

”Boit! Anything?! Got any unique skills? Magic?!”

”I got nothing! I told you already! But… I do have scrolls. Earth and ice. I carry ’em to run away. Self-defense!”

”Oh, you genius!! You brilliant pig!!”

 ”Haha! Of course I am!!”

Klock praised Boit like a madman, while Boit puffed up with pride. Both of them were clearly losing it, hyped up from panic. The knight chasing them frowned in confusion.

”Alright! Let’s go! Hold on tight!”

 ”Yeah!!”

Boit dropped all logic and played his last card. He didn’t care what would happen after this. He was riding the high of fear, using adrenaline like fuel. His judgment was gone.

 ”Take this! Earth Wall!”

As the carriage climbed a small hill, a thick wall of earth rose behind it. Boit figured it would buy time—just enough to get them out of sight.

But against that girl, it was useless. She wasn’t normal. With her speed, she could leap right over it.

 ”And next! Ice Ground!!”

Boit tossed the second scroll, spreading slick ice over the street right where she’d land.

 ”W-what’s that gonna do?!”

 ”Shut up and watch!”

Klock didn’t get it, but he turned around like Boit said. Then—he heard something.

 ”──Wha?!”

 A shocked voice. From behind.

Klock looked. The knight had jumped the wall—but when she hit the ground, her boots slid across the ice.

She fell hard, legs flying up in a big sloppy V.

 ”……”

 ”…Pffft!”

They tried not to laugh. Really. For half a second.

 Then—

 ”HAHAHA!! What a joke!!”

 ”BAHAHAHA!! She fell flat!!”

They cackled like idiots. Filthy, useless men laughing at a warrior’s misstep. And in this wide, quiet plain, their trashy laughter echoed loud.

The knight heard everything. The young elite, embarrassed and fuming, clenched her fists.

She got up fast. Too fast. Her boots tore into the ice and dirt as she bolted forward—closing the gap in seconds.

Her power was unreal. No tricks, no traps, no weak attacks could slow her down. She was a living wall of muscle and rage.

 The distance between them vanished.

 And so did the laughter.

Klock and Boit shut up fast.

That girl’s aura had changed. Now, her whole body screamed kill. It felt like horns would grow from her head any second, and smoke would shoot from her nose.

”Boit… she’s mad mad! What the hell did you do?!”

”ME?! Don’t pin this on me! You laughed too!!”

They instantly turned on each other. Classic.

They’d always survived by blaming others.

”Crap! What now?! We’re out of tricks! Do we… jump?! From the cliff?!”

 Klock said something insane.

Not that the cliff was imaginary. The Selvinia Gorge, east past the Albirlgo Plains, had a river they could dive into. It’d stop the chase cold.

 But the height? Suicidal.

”There’s no way! We’re crossing the border soon!”

”Border?! It’s a hero party! Can’t they just follow?!”

”We’re heading into the fourth zone. The Sekurei Forest.”

”…Isn’t that full of magic beasts?!”

 Klock froze.

Everyone knew about that place. The border between the Kingdom of Crotopone and the Leelit Federation was wide, but this part? Death trap. Even veteran adventurers stayed away.

”HEY! KNIGHT GIRL!! WE’RE GOING IN!! IF YOU WANNA DIE, FOLLOW US!!”

Boit shouted. It was a threat, loud and clear. “Come after us, and you die.”

 Even the knight hesitated.

 Then she shouted back:

”HEY, FATTY! Go be bait all you want, but leave him behind!!”

 Wait… what?

Boit and Klock looked at each other.

”I’m only after him! Leave him and I’ll let you go!”

 …What the hell?

This so-called justice knight wanted to let Boit go… if he ditched Klock. Did she not know what Boit had done?

It didn’t matter. What mattered was Boit’s resolve.

Klock turned to him. He trusted Boit about as far as he could throw him—but if Boit hesitated here, they were doomed.

 Then—

 ”Uoahh?!”

 Klock’s body flew.

Boit had used a wind scroll.

Klock was thrown into the air as the carriage sped away.

”Sorry, Klock! She likes you! Lucky bastard! If you live, see ya!!”

 ”BOIIIIITTT!!”

He crashed down. Six meters. Tried to brace. Failed.

 ”Guaaah!!”

Pain exploded in his arm and ankle. Cold sweat poured. He was in deep trouble.

That bastard. He hid a scroll… planned this…

Not that Klock could talk. He would’ve done the same. Boit just beat him to it.

Klock clutched his arm, limped away, tried to hide.

 Too slow.

 ”Guaaahh…?!”

A sharp pain in his foot.

 Someone stepped on it.

 The knight.

”You made me work for this,” she said, annoyed. The sun behind her made her face even scarier.

”I kept waiting for you to use escape magic. Guess you’re out. Now that I’ve got you, it’s over.”

 Escape…?

Oh, right. He’d used that stolen skill earlier.

She didn’t know it disappeared after one use. She didn’t know his real power.

 ”Now then…”

Klock’s thoughts raced. Could he run? Buy time?

 No chance.

 ”Guh…!?”

 The girl grabbed his neck.

 Then punched his gut.

 ”Wha—? Ugh…!! Agh…!!”

 Punch. Punch. Knee. Knee.

He spat blood. Couldn’t even speak.

She kept going. No blood hit her face. She was careful. Professional.

She stomped his Achilles tendon. Again. Again. Then kicked his thigh.

When he stopped moving, she kicked him in the face.

 Klock lay still.

 She checked his pulse. Alive.

 Healed his gut with magic.

 Then stomped his face.

 ”…Trash.”

Holy Knight Tiet hoisted his body over her shoulder and ran.

She looked fresh. Energized. Her cheeks glowed, like she was high on violence.

Character Notes:

• Albirlgo – A vast open field located east of the federal territory. It is near the Selvinia Gorge, a dangerous cliff area. The plains are a key location where Klock and Boit attempt to escape their pursuer.

• Leelit Federation – A federal territory that includes the Sekurei Forest. It is known for its dangerous zones and is a place where even high-ranking adventurer parties avoid venturing.

• Tiet – A companion and friend of Anna. A holy knight from the royal capital. She wears light armor and carries a shield adorned with a dragon holding a sword, indicating her affiliation with the National Military Police. She is concerned about Anna’s well-being and tries to support her emotionally.
