Volume 1 Chapter 13 The Trend That Anything Can Be Done To Death Row Inmates
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
It was hot.
My whole body burned. It felt heavy, like I had stones in my arms and legs.
Some parts were stiff, like they had turned to rock. Even though I was on fire, my fingers were cold, and I couldn’t move right.
Clink… clink, clink.
Where was I?
What was happening?
My skin felt like it was being grilled.
Was I being burned alive?
Yeah, that made sense. A guy like me, a thief who lived like a cockroach, probably got caught and tossed in the fire.
Clink clink clink clink… snap.
”…So this is what it looks like. Huh.”
What a stupid life. I never planned to be a bandit.
But once I started down that path, I didn’t stop.
Even a kid knows thieves end up hanging. I knew too.
”…It’s getting harder. That’s just like they said. Hah. Feels like a sea cucumber.”
A voice.
Soft.
Quiet.
But it pulled at something in my mind, shaking me awake.
”…So this is what they meant by ‘handling.’ I wasn’t sure at first. But now I get it. You can’t understand unless you try it yourself.”
”…Ah.”
”Oh. You’re awake.”
My vision came back—and so did the pain.
I saw a strange scene.
My pants were half-off. My legs felt stiff. My belt was twisted, and part of the buckle had broken. It looked like someone had pulled it down by force.
A pale hand wrapped around me. Slender fingers moved gently, like testing the feel of a tool.
”You wouldn’t wake up no matter how much I kicked you,” she said. “But I touch you here, and you open your eyes.
A junior knight once told me, ‘If you want to wake a man up, use your mouth on him.’”
What was she talking about?
My mind still felt foggy.
I tried to move.
Pain shot through my body like lightning.
I must have been leaning against a wall for a long time. Every part of me ached. My back and neck were frozen in place.
I gritted my teeth and forced my head up.
It hurt.
But I saw her.
Blonde hair.
A girl.
That knight. The one with the hero.
So she caught me.
And she was having her fun.
The girl was kneeling in front of me, one leg bent. She wore a sleeveless tunic and tight shorts, barely covering the tops of her thighs. Her arms were bare. From the knees down, her body was covered in heavy armor.
”Let me say this first,” she said. “Don’t try anything stupid. Your guard is watching, and if you move the wrong way, your neck will snap.”
She looked like any kid who might be playing outside.
But her tone was calm and her words deadly.
She held my neck like she meant it. I could feel her strength in every finger. One wrong move, and she’d twist. The other hand hadn’t stopped its slow rhythm.
”…What are you doing?” I managed to ask.
She didn’t answer.
My stomach hurt. She must’ve kicked me earlier.
I looked down. Her hand made a soft, wet sound with every move.
Girls in Stras knew this trick.
Touch a man like this, and he’d obey.
What was this clear stuff? I remembered hearing about it once.
She stared at it closely, golden hair falling over her face.
”…Who the hell are you?”
”Hmm? Oh, right.”
She tilted her head, like she just remembered something small.
”I’m Tiet. A companion of the Hero. Holy Knight of Crotopone.”
A holy knight.
That meant she worked for the National Military Police.
Justice. Order. Discipline.
Or so they said.
In truth, they were just knights with a different name—and a different purpose.
Notes:
• Tiet – A companion and friend of Anna. A holy knight from the royal capital. She wears light armor and carries a shield adorned with a dragon holding a sword, indicating her affiliation with the National Military Police.
