Volume 6 Chapter 30-2 Love Letter

She didn’t want anyone to see her like this — not just naked, but floating inside the clear tank. Girls think in strange ways. I will never understand them.
Still, the body seemed to be forming well, so I felt some relief. But Ms. Mahal warned me that now was the most important time. If we rushed her out too soon, her body might fall apart.
Experience speaks louder than words. Surely she had lost others this way before. But this time would be okay. It had to be.
”If her body is this far done, there is no turning back,” Ms. Mahal said. “Until she can come out on her own strength, even if spears fall from the sky, we will not move her.”
Spears falling? Not likely. The royal city has no history of earthquakes. Stone houses won’t catch fire if no flammable things are near. The only real fear is the Demon King’s arrival — but lately, not even monsters have been seen. It should be safe. Right?
Since Ms. Nina had reached her complete form, the life support machines connected to her had multiplied. They spilled into the hallway like a tangled forest. If the Demon King did come, I couldn’t just put Ms. Nina into a magic bag and escape. But maybe I was just worrying too much.
Anyway, I wanted to borrow some extra magic stones from Ms. Mahal to use in concrete work. But she said they didn’t have enough. The last stage of making a homunculus used up huge amounts of mana.
So, I had to find a way to secure magic stones for construction separately. Since magic stones are needed for many things, they should be part of the national budget. Mr. Zenom had experience mining magic stones, so maybe we should get them straight from the veins underground.
Some monsters still had magic stones in their bodies, but those were now rare. Greedy adventurers hunted them down one by one. The summoned heroes made things worse.
If I added to the demand for magic stones, it would push monsters closer to extinction. I would dig them up myself. All I needed was time — without money or time, nothing could be done. Having both would be best.
On my way out, Ms. Mahal gave me a large pile of empty magic stones. Filling them would take time. Maybe I could have Uno do it — time flows differently there, so even with the trip to the Valley of Trials, it would save time overall.
Time. I had no time lately. Sobusy. But I still had to meet the cardinal. We were both busy, so meetings were rare, but seeing each other face to face was important.
We exchanged notes beforehand to shorten the meeting. The parchment she gave me had detailed instructions about the size of the Keras temple I would build. The height of the building was especially important. It depended on the strength of the priests.
Mr. Donovan was coming to visit, so everything had to be ready for him. After the temple was built, priests would be assigned according to the temple’s rank. That was the plan.
In my country, many temples existed only on paper, full of priests given easy jobs. The new temple had to fit into that system.
This was a political problem, complex but not hard if I followed orders. The cardinal was good at her job. She never asked for impossible things.
I also confirmed the size of the lord’s manor and the duke’s castle. It seemed silly, but it was important.
The cardinal was the expert on such matters. Following her advice would keep me safe from trouble later.
”So, we need as many castles as there are countries?” I asked.
The Holy Sabroa Kingdom and the Sabroa Dukedom each needed their own castles. It was about showing power. I thought maybe they could share one, but no.
Power was an odd, hard-to-understand idea. In this world, it was very important. Besides castles, shining knights with bright armor, fine horses, and dressed-up noble ladies were needed. Even their armor and clothes had strict rules.
”Someday, the holy king’s children will divide the land. So, each country needs its own castle. But no need to rush. As long as the great temple stands, the Holy Sabroa Kingdom will be safe.”
The dwarves would like many castles. That was fine.
I just thought having three governments was wasteful. One castle could be enough. More castles meant more officials and higher costs.
