Chapter 196 Human Encounters Are Miracles.txt
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
That night, after talking about Harue and his ability, Haruto lay quietly on his bed, his thoughts wandering deep into the night.
How should I use this ability? And what do I even want to do with it… with myself…?
He let out a soft sigh, the memory of his mother’s words still echoing in his head.
(“If you want her to be healed by your ability, then listen up!”)
He hadn’t expected her to say something like that. When Harue spoke those words, a small part of him had drifted into fantasy—just for a moment.
In his mind, Suzume’s voice whispered to Nana, “He’ll treat you, so surrender your body…”
No, no… I’d never say that. But if it were Suzume-san… maybe she’d actually agree…
But that imagined agreement was really just a reflection—of Harue’s desire. Her wish for Suzume to help him in that way.
And just from today’s conversation, Haruto could sense how deeply Suzume cared for her younger sister.
Am I just overthinking it…? Or maybe… it really is like that.
In an ideal world, he would use this power to heal everyone—every illness, every injury, no matter who, no matter where.
But that was nothing more than a dream. One person alone could never reach everyone. And above all… it was impossible to even meet them all.
Come to think of it… I remember an email going around back then…
──The world’s population had passed seven billion.
Even if you met one person every single second, it would still take 190 years to meet them all.
That’s why meeting someone… is nothing short of a miracle.
Yeah… that’s how the email went, I think. Hah, it was actually pretty good advice.
He couldn’t recall the details now. That message was from his high school days—his past life.
I kinda miss those days… Back when pagers turned into PHS phones, and I got slammed with a 30,000 yen phone bill ’cause there was no packet plan… Got yelled at bad for that one.
For the first time since becoming Ichijou Haruto, he remembered his previous life—not in flashes, but slowly, vividly.
And with that memory came a quiet reflection.
──A life with nothing to show. A burden on those around me.
──If heaven and hell really exist, I’d be sent straight to hell.
──But if I got another life… I’d want to become someone who could help others.
That was the wish Haruto made… at the very end of his past life.
So why did I struggle for so long… over something so simple?
Was it because God heard that wish and gave him another chance?
Or maybe… humans really are allowed to reincarnate after death?
No one knows for sure. But even so—
I wanted to help someone… and now I have the power to do it. Then why… why was I afraid?
Because that god said something to him.
—Please think carefully.
If there was someone in the world who could simply cure all illnesses, what do you think would happen?
And then—
—You’re too focused on curing the incurable.
Even if you could heal those illnesses without outside interference, you still couldn’t save everyone.
Isn’t there someone closer to you who needs help?
Even easing someone’s pain… can be enough, can’t it?
Wait… now that I think about it, the god just kept saying not to go too big. To stay close to home. That’s… exactly what Mom said too…
There’s no need to rush. Nana can take her time and recover through rehabilitation.
Even with a disease like cancer, it’s not always about full recovery.
If she improves to a point where modern medicine can handle it, then the hospital won’t be at a loss.
Haruto slowly sat up in bed, the weight in his chest finally lifting.
I’ve made up my mind. If someone truly wishes for it… I’ll reach out my hand.
Notes:
• Suzume – Female. Nana’s companion, who is just as beautiful as Nana. She has a husky voice, which makes her age and relationship to Nana (sister) slightly ambiguous. She is supportive and polite, accompanying Nana to the job interview.
• Nana – The one dating Haruto before she goes to Hokkaido.
