Volume 2 Chapter 37 Future Relationship
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The birds sang beneath a gentle, sunlit sky.
In the castle town, the market streets bustled with cheerful voices, while in the residential districts, children’s laughter echoed as they played with bright energy.
It was a peaceful imperial capital, vibrant and colorful even today.
But deep within a stone building, far from the warmth outside, a stifling atmosphere clung to the room.
”Do you have anything to say?” Suzette asked coldly, legs crossed as she sat on the bed.
Her voice cut through the silence like a blade. With an air of superiority, she glared down at the man kneeling before her, her eyes sharp and merciless.
”N-no… I mean…” Klock faltered, unable to meet her gaze.
”Let me remind you—the only reason you’re even able to move right now is because I healed you,” she said, narrowing her eyes as frustration leaked into her tone.
A heavy tension settled in the room as her words weighed down on him.
Klock sat with his legs tucked under him, kneeling on the cold stone floor, looking more like a criminal awaiting judgment than a companion.
”I saved you, despite what you did,” Suzette said, her voice unwavering. “I’ll ask again—do you have anything to say?”
”…Honestly… I’m sorry,” Klock muttered at last, his head bowed.
He couldn’t bring himself to look at her. But even as he avoided her eyes, the regret in his voice was clear.
Suzette frowned, dissatisfied, but after a moment of silence, her expression softened—just slightly.
* * *
He really did screw up.
No, that wasn’t even the right way to put it. He crossed a line that couldn’t be uncrossed.
Klock shifted his gaze around the room, trying to escape the pressure in her stare.
The scene was horrific. Milky puddles stained the floor, the furniture was in disarray, and the air still clung to a sickly, cloying scent.
If someone stumbled in now, they’d assume something far worse had taken place—and they wouldn’t be wrong.
Suzette glared at him with cold contempt. She wasn’t just angry—she was disgusted.
He remembered returning to the room in a dazed, unstable state. His mind clouded, body overwhelmed, and before he knew it—
No. He did know.
He’d lost control and forced himself on her. She passed out. He didn’t stop.
And after it all, she was the one who healed him.
…What the hell had he done?
Elna had been there too—briefly, he remembered that. But the rest of the night was a haze.
He only came back to himself once his magic had returned, the poison purged from his system.
That poison… The trap toxin used by a Silent Roper. A vile monster native to abyssal depths.
Its paralyzing venom didn’t just subdue the body—it dulled the will, stripped away resistance.
Males lost all sense of self. Females were left defenseless, unable even to scream for help. Hence the name: Silent Roper.
He knew how dangerous it was. He should’ve been more careful.
But he never imagined it was the poison. Never thought it would be used like this.
Still, in the end, he was alive. Thanks to her.
He looked back at Suzette.
She was scowling—but composed. Despite everything, she hadn’t lashed out.
Even though they’d shared intimacy before, what happened last night wasn’t the same.
It wasn’t mutual. It wasn’t right.
He’d hurt her. That wasn’t something he could take back with an apology.
She was his only ally now. If they couldn’t mend what had been broken, they’d fall apart—long before the enemy ever reached them.
Just as he began to gather his thoughts, Suzette spoke again.
”I’m not going to keep scolding you forever,” she said calmly, arms folded. “What’s done is done. If you’re willing to show sincere regret, I’m willing to move forward. Let’s have a more productive conversation.”
He blinked, startled by the unexpected shift.
—She was willing to forgive him?
Was she really letting this go? Was that even okay?
No… this wasn’t forgiveness. It was control. She was choosing not to let her anger derail them.
He let out a breath, tension easing from his shoulders.
She hadn’t let emotions cloud her judgment. That was more than he deserved.
”Understood,” he said. “I’ve already figured out the escape route—”
”No, that’s not what I meant,” she cut in sharply. “I’m talking about our future.”
”Our… future?” he repeated, confused.
She raised an eyebrow. “Why do you look so surprised? You do remember what you did, don’t you?”
That was obvious. He remembered all too well.
Still, her tone and wording left him uncertain—until she placed a hand gently on her abdomen.
Then, without speaking, she drew a soft arc just above her belly.
”You forced yourself on me, ignored my resistance, and released everything inside me,” she said matter-of-factly. “Do you understand what that implies?”
”…Huh?”
”Huh? I’m telling you that when you release that much inside someone, there are consequences,” she said, her tone flat. “You get that, don’t you?”
Her words pierced straight through him.
Klock stared, frozen.
His mind processed her meaning slowly, painfully.
”You put so much inside me that my belly swelled,” she continued, her voice cool. “Do you really think I won’t get pregnant after that?”
”…”
”Why are you silent?” she asked. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to deny it happened.”
”No, I… It’s not that,” he said quietly. “It’s just… sudden, that’s all…”
”I see. So you were thinking of running away,” she said, eyes narrowing.
His heart thumped hard.
She was suspicious. And she was right to be.
Damn it…
Had it really gone that far? He thought he remembered Elna writhing in pain, the poison spreading fast. And Suzette—
The room told the story even if his mind couldn’t. He had no excuse.
Running wasn’t an option now. He couldn’t escape this.
”…Haa. I figured as much. You really are hopeless,” Suzette sighed, brushing a hand through her hair.
”Wait—no, I mean it! I’ll take responsibility. I swear!” he said, panicked.
”You don’t have to lie so clumsily,” she said flatly, rising to her feet.
Klock instinctively leaned back. He expected anger. Maybe even a slap. But Suzette only walked up to him quietly, her presence composed.
She stood before him, calm and still.
”If you’re going to take responsibility, then that makes us partners now,” she said. “But we have no trust. I’d be carrying this life inside me, living in fear of whether you’d disappear the next day. Don’t you think that’s cruel?”
”…You’re right,” he said, unable to argue.
”Then it’s simple,” she said, eyes firm. “From now on, I’ll be managing that part of you. That’s the least you owe me.”
”Managing…? Wait, what do you mean by—”
”If I leave you alone, who knows when you’ll lose control again,” she said calmly. “So I’ll take care of it. Every time. No matter the mood or the moment. Morning or night. You’ll come to me. Only me.”
Her words were resolute. Her tone wasn’t seductive—but absolute.
”I’ll make sure you never have reason to turn to anyone else,” she said softly. “If you feel desire, I’ll take care of it. If you wake up tense, I’ll be there. No one else touches you. Ever.”
She looked up at him, unwavering.
Suzette wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing her chest gently against his arm as she whispered softly at his neck, “I’ll stay by your side for the rest of your life. How does that sound? Are you satisfied with that?”
Her words carried a deep promise, more than just loyalty—she was dedicating everything to him.
He blinked, surprised by such an earnest confession, and said, “Uh… well…”
”If you have any complaints, just tell me,” she added firmly.
Complaints? How could he have any? No one would refuse such devotion. But the intensity of her will made him pause.
”You’re used to dedicating yourself, right?” he asked.
”I was the head maid of the Viscount’s household,” she answered calmly.
It wasn’t just her position. Suzette was a rare person, skilled and brave. She was not only a maid but also a spy—dangerous work requiring courage and loyalty. That explained her fierce dedication.
”…You’re truly amazing,” he said quietly.
”Is that so? It’s strange hearing you say that,” she teased with a small smile, her sharp tongue still present. That mix of devotion and teasing made her more approachable somehow.
Suzette smiled and leaned close, pressing her lips softly against his arm, her breath warm and gentle. She didn’t rush—her care was clear in every movement.
Her touch was tender but sincere, showing how deeply she wanted to be by his side.
”By the way,” she said quietly, pulling back just enough to look into his eyes, “let’s wait on anything more for now. I want us to get through this safely first.”
She spoke honestly, understanding the risks, and he nodded silently.
Suzette kept her hands on his waist, her presence steady and comforting, while he gently stroked her hair. She glanced up briefly but didn’t stop. Her quiet devotion filled the room, stronger than words.
”What’s that look for?” she asked.
”Just feeling happy knowing you’re mine,” he said softly.
”Easy to please, huh?” she replied with a small smirk.
Her teasing was part of what made her who she was. Even if things changed between them, she was still Suzette. He liked that.
They stayed close like that for a while, the tension easing, replaced by a calm certainty.
* * *
”Next time, please tell me beforehand if you’re going to be rough like that. My clothes are ruined,” Suzette said with a slight frown afterward.
She was a bit annoyed—there were no extras left, and if her clothes were damaged, it would be trouble. He felt a little guilty.
”…So, did it feel good?” she asked, sounding curious.
”Yeah, it felt really good,” he answered honestly.
”Good. Now you can forget about them, too,” she said, standing and fixing her clothes, but the air around her felt colder now.
”Them?” he asked.
”The two who were with you—they were from the hero party, right? I don’t want to know your relationship with them, but you probably won’t see them again. Just forget about them,” she said firmly.
She was telling him to leave Adelina and the others behind.
”…Huh?” he murmured.
”You’re not thinking of trying to save them, are you? Especially against Princess Hermine?” she questioned.
Princess Hermine, the powerful mage of the hero party, master of the lightning Beastkin Elna.
Their plan was to escape the capital, but Adelina and Tiet were captured. They were still inside, but rescuing them was impossible. The enemy’s strength and unknown location made it too dangerous.
They had defeated Elna once by luck and poison, but next time defeat was certain. At the art museum, they were instantly defeated. Even Suzette could be taken down if caught off guard.
Princess Hermine was even more dangerous, commanding a huge golem. The empire’s soldiers alone were overwhelming. Trying a rescue would be a death sentence.
Even so, Adelina and Tiet wouldn’t be harmed—they were allies of the heroes and would be protected. No need to risk everything. The right choice was to leave them be.
”…”
”I know it’s hard to give up comrades, but some things can’t be done. It’s not about feelings; it’s just the truth. Outside the empire, maybe there’s hope. But inside, with magic barriers everywhere, stealth is impossible. You either run or get caught. Please give up,” she said softly.
She was right.
Magic covered the city like a shield. Helping Adelina and Tiet meant facing Hermine or soldiers. There was no winning.
”…Understood,” he said quietly.
”You understand? This isn’t your fault. It can’t be helped,” she encouraged gently.
Her voice was soft and supportive. He wanted to say more but kept quiet.
”…Sorry, one more thing,” he said.
Suzette crouched and reached for her clothes.
”Huh? No, I’m fine. I feel better now,” he assured her.
”No, you’re not. You’re still worried about them. Let it out,” she said firmly.
Why would he? What did she think he was?
Still, she helped him again—not just to calm his mind, but to give him strength. Their serious talk continued.
There was no reason to stay here longer. Tonight, they would escape the imperial capital.
