Volume 6 Chapter 5 General Of Flame
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Two horses dipped their heads into a bucket of water, quenching their thirst. The splashing sounds mingled with the crackling of the campfire, deepening the stillness of the night forest.
”Well then,” she said, finishing the task and waiting idly in front of the fire.
Only packing up the campsite or resting remained. Darkness had already settled, and wandering off to gather supplies was out of the question.
She felt restless but not bored—her mind was elsewhere. Whenever he was absent, she drifted into thought. Lately, one secret occupied her completely.
When should she tell him about her stomach?
A few days ago, a traveling priest had visited Rizan Village. Klock showed no interest, having no business there. So, she slipped away to see him without Klock knowing. Her purpose was their star. She had a feeling and asked the gods for guidance.
Their stars were aligned.
It was confirmed—she could have a child with him.
There was no change in her abdomen or health yet; perhaps she was newly pregnant or still in the “maybe” stage [T/N: early pregnancy uncertainty]. Either way, fate had decreed she would be blessed with his child. She’d learned this early and wanted to thank Goddess Teekua.
She felt both acceptance and surprise.
The surprise came from finally being able to conceive.
That meant during the chaos in the imperial capital, when he forced himself on her, she must have been protected. Despite the amount he gave her, she hadn’t been affected. Maybe she had fallen once during the battle.
The acceptance came from their intimacy over the past three months. He never tired of pinning her down every day. She’d heard that usually, once things settled, people grew bored and the frequency dropped—but he didn’t fit that mold.
”Well, it seems the pregnancy happened as it should,” she admitted. “Plus, he never lets me go out at all. Probably because he wants a baby.”
Thinking that way, maybe she should see it as a blessing that it finally happened.
”If I’m pressured this much, the result’s inevitable.”
Of course, unlike him, she was healthy—if she didn’t want it, she could refuse. When she wasn’t in the mood or was upset, she said no. But in the end, they ended up doing it almost every day. It wasn’t r*pe or force; she was stronger, so rejecting him was easy.
Simply put, if she didn’t want it, he persuaded her until she did.
Not just the s*x, but even the lead-up was too practiced. Even when she stubbornly decided not to, she found herself welcoming dawn atop him.
”If he’s that good, I wish he’d courted me properly the first time,” she muttered. “Thinking I’ll never be forced like that again makes it a valuable experience, maybe.”
He protected her pride, so in the end, she gave in. He sweet-talked her, and she accepted.
When she didn’t want it, he picked up on it instantly. But when she did want it, she sensed it too soon.
A little kindness, and she was dragged straight to bed. That night, lips slightly pursed, she was pinned down until morning. And he kept going without tiring.
Finally, she received the goddess’s seal of approval.
”The problem is when to say it?” she whispered.
Mentally prepared, it wasn’t really a problem. What came next was harder—telling him. She had to overcome the fear he’d find it bothersome, throw her away, or disappear.
She hadn’t known reporting a pregnancy could be so nerve-wracking.
”Well, it might still be too early, though,” she muttered irritably to the horse.
Reacting to her voice, both horses turned their gazes toward her. She apologized and stroked her face to cover her unease.
When would they come back? Wasn’t it a bit late?
Suddenly, she realized Klock was taking longer than expected. It’d been about thirty minutes since he said he’d take a quick look. If he’d started from far away, he should have moved faster.
The mountain was freezing at night. If they didn’t move and set up again soon, they’d freeze.
Was he really just taking a walk?
A walk at this hour? Not impossible. But would he really wander the mountain, where monsters or wild beasts might lurk?
Or could he be lost?
She sighed. The chances were high.
What a troublesome man, she thought. Taking care of her stomach and belongings wasn’t enough. She worried about him in every way. Could he hold a steady job like this? If a child was born, maybe it’d be better to leave the child with him and go work herself.
”──Eh?” she said, startled.
A wave of electricity surged through her skin, warmed by the campfire.
For a moment, she froze. What was that? Then she realized.
She scanned the surroundings and pinpointed the source above the mountain.
It flowed like an avalanche.
That was magic power—a huge wave of it.
Not a great magic spell, but the presence of someone with immense power.
It felt like a scorching flame, a wave that could burn everything.
She knew this flow well. It was a torrent of power too distinctive to mistake.
”──Lady Gildegant,” she whispered.
A familiar figure came to mind.
Simply put, Gildegant was her superior. The continent where she was dispatched as a spy belonged to Earth General Bandanzine’s jurisdiction, but the dark division Suzette belonged to answered to Gildegant.
She’d met Gildegant many times and knew her well.
Fierce and grand, her temperament was like raging fire.
She’d never known anyone so striking.
This was her magic power—there was no mistaking it.
The escaped Demon Lord’s army—one of their executives—was here.
Why? How had she come?
She had thoughts, but first and foremost—
This was bad. She had to run.
Suzette was a runaway.
If found, death was certain. She’d seen spies who overthought escape attempts eliminated, even comrades.
Even soldiers were cut down from behind if they fled. That was the Demon Lord.
If caught, burning was inevitable.
She had to leave—soon.
But Klock still hadn’t returned. Where had he gone?
She wondered how far he’d gone.
That thought stopped her footsteps, which had been moving to put out the campfire.
A chill crept rapidly up her spine.
She called softly, “…Mr. Klock?”
Where could he have gone?
Of course—up.
He’d gone to see the hot spring—not just any spring, but the one above this mountain slope.
There was no need to worry. He’d likely gone out of curiosity.
If the spring started flowing heavily, he’d move.
And if it could be dammed, he might have planned that.
That was all there was to it. He should be back soon.
”Mr. Klock,” she called again.
Yes, he should be back soon. Just checking on things shouldn’t have taken more than 30 minutes, let alone five or ten.
So why wasn’t he here now?
”──Accelerate!” she said almost reflexively.
She squatted deeply and kicked the ground hard. Digging into the soil thick with weeds and fallen leaves, she dodged trees and sprinted up the slope in one burst.
Calm down. Think. Why had she felt that magic power?
That magic was undoubtedly fire—the unique flames of Lady Gildegant. No doubt about it.
What was the fire for? A torch? A campfire?
—An attack. With that torrent of flames, it could only be an attack.
So, what had he attacked? Who?
A strong sense of foreboding spread through her body.
Fueling her, the magic power spun rapidly.
Her body, refusing to slow, raced across the earth with all its might.
”──Stop it,” she told herself.
Though she’d just started running, her breath was ragged.
Her heart screamed.
Pain wracked her body so fiercely she wanted to writhe.
”No way, right?” she whispered.
Regret flashed.
She’d been careless. There were gaps.
She’d let her guard down—after months of peace, getting too comfortable with life alongside him. That much she couldn’t deny.
”Stop it. Stop it, stop it, STOP IT!!” she shouted inwardly.
Since being conscripted, there had been no time for ease.
She’d regretted coming to a place like this countless times.
Days of nostalgia for her hometown on a distant continent had only recently ended.
She thought she could finally enjoy a semblance of happiness.
Just as that thought crossed her mind—
”Please, just don’t let that happen!!” she cried.
There were still things she hadn’t told him—!
”────Mr. Klock!!” she screamed.
She had acted like a cool woman.
Just because they lived together didn’t mean she would act spoiled; she never stopped treating him coldly if annoyed.
So she didn’t know she could shout this loud.
Her scream was almost a cry, her throat raw as if it would burst.
”Wahhahahaha!! That tickles!! Hahaha!!” a woman laughed.
Cream-colored hair framing her face, she soaked in a steaming pond, stretching her legs and leaning on her elbows.
That figure—indeed—was her.
And at her toes—
”Fugahh!!” a man groaned.
”…Huh?” she asked.
Her foot was in his mouth.
The future papa, kneeling beside her naked body in the hot water, was stuffing his mouth full of her foot.
”……Huh?” she repeated.
* * *
”Well, if that’s the case, you should’ve at least consulted me,” Gildegant said.
”…I’m sorry, Lady Gildegant,” Suzette replied.
”Nah, it’s fine. I thought you were dead for sure. I figured the humans tortured you beyond belief. If you’re safe, that’s good enough for now.”
Fire breaks wood and creates heat.
In the night forest, in front of the carriage, a crimson light flickered as the runaway spy bowed her head to her former superior—Flame General Gildegant.
Intense emotions usually raged within her, but as she listened quietly to Suzette’s story, her voice wove slow and calm.
There was no anger.
She wasn’t mad at Suzette.
”I can’t believe you got hurt just to find me… How can I apologize…?” Suzette whispered.
”I told you earlier, right? You can heal, so just heal for now. That’s step one. If you refuse, I’ll kill you. Both the runaway spy and the accomplice will be burned. Don’t like it? Obey me,” Gildegant said flatly.
Apparently, Suzette was a favorite subordinate.
Gildegant had a good impression of her serious, diligent nature, planning to put her to good use.
But being sent to the human continent, her jurisdiction had been taken over by Earth General Bandanzine.
When reports came that Suzette’s contact was lost, she apparently headed alone to the imperial capital Alvenia on business.
There, she was ambushed by the hero.
She lost her left arm and left leg.
”If that’s what it takes to be forgiven, I will gladly obey,” Suzette vowed.
”Oh. Well, it was just right I ran into you guys. I took a vacation for treatment but was a bit at a loss alone. You better take care of me like your life depends on it,” Gildegant said with a rare smile.
Gildegant had taken time off work to come to the Beast Continent.
She sought treatment—the revival of his limbs.
Dragon blood and flesh granted regenerative effects, so she had been killing dragons to bathe in their blood.
She thought it was crazy to share a bath with corpses, but there was a reason behind it.
”By the way, Klock.”
”Yesss. What’s up, sis?” he answered.
”How long are you gonna leave me here wet and naked? Hurry up and bring a towel to dry me off. Then get my change of clothes out of my bag and put them on me,” she ordered.
Her voice urged him.
Gildegant glanced at her floating naked in front of the campfire after her bath.
Suzette was busy preparing dragon steak.
Only one person could take care of her.
”L-Lady Gildegant! You mustn’t let a man touch your skin! I’ll change your clothes!!” Suzette protested.
”Huh? It’s fine. This guy’s my subordinate, so it’s a pre-paid reward. Hey Klock, hurry and get ready,” the Flame General urged.
With nothing to hide her body, her swaying breasts caught his gaze.
Caught looking, he quickly glanced at her expression.
Gildegant showed no reproach.
On the contrary, pride glimmered in her eyes.
”……Well, let me wipe you then,” he said.
She held a towel behind her and placed it on her back.
She hovered unmoving, suspended ten centimeters away.
He figured it was better not to rub and patted her dry instead.
No instructions were given. This had to be the way.
What the hell was this situation?
It was the first night of their journey together, and somehow, an important person’s hospitality had begun.
It reminded him oddly of the time he washed Tiet in the bath.
Humans tended to be service-oriented, but the strong never hesitated to make requests.
He wiped her back, then her arms.
Moving downward, he was suddenly faced with the sight of her bare buttocks.
They were downright erotic. The shape, color, size—everything perfect.
As he absorbed the water with the towel, he couldn’t help but grab a handful of her buttocks.
Right there, in front of Suzette, his excitement spiked.
”How do you like my body, Klock?” Gildegant asked.
Taken aback, he froze.
He stumbled over his response, lost for words.
Somehow, it seemed Suzette had reacted too.
”Proud as I am of my flawless proportions, you’re the first guy Suzette’s found sophisticated enough to truly appreciate them. Since I can’t bring you to the Demon Lord’s realm, I’ll at least teach you the joy of serving me,” she teased.
”……Uhh, sure thing,” he stammered.
Should he give a thumbs-up?
Gildegant said with a wink, “Suzette seems to have caught herself a decent guy. He’s the kind who understands my allure. It’s a pity humans can’t come to the Demon Realm, but I’ll let him experience the pleasure of serving me.”
He wasn’t sure what was happening, but somehow he was in her good graces. Was she that desperate, or were there few in the army who praised her? Either way, that was beside the point—her choice of words was inappropriate.
He glanced across the campfire at Suzette. She gave him a hellish stare—the kind reserved for something utterly despicable. It wasn’t the look you gave to garbage but one heavy with killing intent. He couldn’t pinpoint why, but it seemed he’d inadvertently angered her—or perhaps even earned her hatred.
This was bad. She was genuinely furious. Ever since she’d seen him with his mouth around her foot, her mood had been terrible. It wasn’t his fault! She must have misunderstood something.
He quickly ducked behind the female executive of the Demon Lord’s Army. Suzette’s gaze felt like it could pierce right through him and claw at his heart. Terrifying.
Hiding behind the executive, Gildegant held out a towel and pressed it against Suzette’s abdomen. Moving upward, he patted her large breasts dry—
Damn, they were huge. Bigger than Suzette’s. So erotic.
Though impulsive and hot-headed, Gildegant was surprisingly considerate toward her subordinates. Her physique, however, was demanding—F or G cups, easily. Standing behind her, he clearly saw her nipples pointing upward. Even through the towel, the softness of her breasts was obvious. To be blunt, she had a body right up his alley. If she were his woman—or a girl from the pleasure quarters—he’d immediately grab her butt, thrust inside her, and massage her breasts from behind.
”Oi,” Gildegant snapped.
”Ah, yeah,” Klock muttered.
”Stop staring at people’s bodies and hurry up—wipe them down, get them changed. If they catch a cold, I’ll kill you,” she warned.
He had been staring too long and earned that sharp reprimand.
”What do you think you’re doing, you perverted garbage trash bastard?” Suzette’s voice cut through from the other side. “You strip a woman you meet in the mountains at night and peek at her like that? Did maggots start crawling in your brain or something? Will you snap back to your senses if I line up your useless d*ck next to a dragon steak?”
Her murderous intent crackled and exploded—an intensity almost visible, an aura of rage searing to her core.
That was enough. He needed to calm her down.
Throughout the whole exchange, Gildegant burst out laughing.
What the hell was this guy laughing about? It was, well—no, about eighty percent his fault.
