Chapter 1 Ayumu

As the bell signaling the end of morning classes rang, Ayumu Sanai opened the lunchbox he brought and began eating.
At the same time, Gotanba Shogo and his delinquent group sprinted toward the school store, while the girls who had brought their lunches gathered their desks and chatted, eating happily.
The handsome Kiritani Takuya was surrounded by a group of girls, flashing his signature smile.
In the corner of the classroom, Ayumu Sanai and his fellow members of the lower school caste—the otaku group—were engrossed in talking about the late-night anime from the previous evening.
Around the middle of the classroom, a group of gal girls seemed to be having a makeup and boyfriend boasting contest while eating convenience store bentō.
It was an ordinary, mundane day in a regular high school.
”Please let nothing happen…” Ayumu thought sincerely.
Ayumu was never happy; he reflected bitterly on his life up until now.
His family was not very well off.
Every day, his parents fought over the lack of money, and from elementary school to middle school, he had endured his fair share of bullying.
He had nothing but painful memories: being splashed with water while using the bathroom, being hit with bags, tacks placed in chairs and school shoes, notebooks and textbooks slashed with a cutter.
”Oh, and I was also made the culprit for a window I didn’t even break…” he muttered under his breath.
But Ayumu had found peace in high school.
The bullies had found a new toy.
Now, the one with the downcast expression and crouching in the corner was Sad Takuma, who was being picked on.
”Well, he’s a coward who fawns over the strong and looks down on the weak,” Ayumu scoffed quietly, “so I can’t bring myself to feel sympathy.”
”Well, who cares about that…” he added, voice low.
Now, Ayumu was a presence that existed yet felt as if it didn’t exist at all to those around him.
Ayumu had finally gone from being a bullied kid to a mere background character. He didn’t desire anything more.
For him, the most important thing was to have days where he didn’t have to struggle.
For that, he even thought it was fine for others to be sacrificed.
That is, until the moment when a magic circle with a hexagram appeared on the classroom floor, and a sudden group teleportation shimmered into existence…
