Chapter 2 Audience With The King
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The school lunch break was nearing its end, and classmates were trickling back into the room.
Not that they were especially diligent—just that this class happened to house the annoyingly serious vice class rep, Sayumi Mineyama.
She was the very image of a traditional beauty: sleek, jet-black hair cascading down her back, and a face striking enough to turn heads at neighboring schools. But with that came a rigid sense of discipline, the kind she imposed on herself—and everyone else. A living rulebook with a mean glare.
That was exactly why Ayumu wanted nothing to do with her.
(Enough with the scolding already…) he groaned inwardly, steeling himself for another nagging session.
Before he could even sigh aloud, the classroom exploded in brilliant white light—like a flashbang detonated without sound.
* * *
It was chaos. A phenomenon too surreal to process.
Ayumu blinked against the glare, his brain lagging behind what he saw.
”Huh? What? Where is this?! I don’t understand what’s happening!” cried a bewildered classmate.
One of the otaku group sprang up, eyes gleaming. “Could it be?! Is this otherworld teleportation?!” he exclaimed, practically shaking.
Ayumu recognized the signs. Isekai. The classic trope.
The kind of story where some random teenager is yanked from everyday life, handed absurd powers, slays evil monsters, and somehow—just by being kinda nice—accumulates a harem of unlikely heroines before returning a crowned hero.
”Yay! It’s otherworld teleportation! It’s otherworld cheat!” shouted another excitedly.
”Now I can say goodbye to this hellhole of a life!” someone cheered, tears of joy actually welling up.
”Am I going to become the hero who saves this world?!” asked another, already striking a heroic pose.
They were all shouting at once, intoxicated by delusion. But not everyone shared the hype.
Some stood frozen in place, eyes wide and lips trembling. A few collapsed to their knees, clutching their bags. Others, Ayumu noticed, stared quietly—calculating, like chess players waiting for the next move.
Takuya Kiritani, ever the smooth operator, wore his usual laid-back smirk even while a panicking girl clung to his arm.
The intense light began to fade, and Ayumu’s vision finally adjusted.
They were no longer in their classroom.
A towering ceiling loomed overhead, lined with ornate stonework and glimmering banners. Polished marble floors stretched outward toward a raised platform.
A throne room. Not just any—one built for spectacle.
Seated at the top of a red-carpeted staircase was a regal old man in a bejeweled crown, heavy robes draped over his shoulders. Beside him stood a burly warrior-type with a forehead scar and eyes that screamed Commander of the Knights, and a gaunt elder wrapped in ceremonial robes that practically screamed High Priest.
Both men stared down at the newcomers, expressions hard to read.
Ayumu took a step back. “Yikes,” he muttered under his breath. The scene before him looked like something out of a war epic.
In the corners of the room stood people—ragged, dirt-smudged, many with visible wounds. Soldiers in torn uniforms, villagers with sunken eyes, survivors with haunted stares. All of them looked at Ayumu and his classmates with a single, desperate question written across their faces:
Are you our salvation?
A silence settled. Then, the king stood.
He spoke in slow, grave tones, each word echoing across the vast chamber.
”First and foremost, I offer my deepest apologies, visitors from another world,” he said. “You were summoned here without consent—brought into a land burning in the flames of war. I am King Jack Seron III of the Union Kingdom.”
Gasps rippled through the class.
All eyes now turned to the throne as the weight of the king’s words sank in.
Their new reality had just begun.
