Volume 6 Chapter 59 The Sun and the Cat

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”What a bore.”

She sat on the bed, gazing up at the canopy. Pale pink curtains shrouded the space, casting the world in a hazy glow. Cradling him as if soothing a baby, she puckered her lips in irritation.

”Kuro. I can’t believe you went along with that invitation. You really lack awareness of your place as a slave.”

A shadow of melancholy clouded her beautiful feline face.

Soft, wet sounds echoed now and then as the imperial princess-cat swished her tail with a sigh. Her shoulder straps had slipped down, baring her noble breasts in full. One mound was hidden only by the man’s mouth.

Chup… chup… chuuh…

”Mmhn♡… Honestly, are you even listening to me? Elna is angry with you!”

 The nursing continued, as always.

The elder of the twin princesses, Elna, once again offered up her flawless white breasts. Today, however, no charming smile adorned her lips—only a pout that begged to complain. Yet, with her pale pink nple teased by his tongue, her cheeks glowed as if fevered.

”Kuro, don’t think you can fool me! I know you were about to accept Lady Parl’s invitation. The moment you came here together, it was obvious—you’d already heard her proposal before arriving in my room!”

Elna tightened her hold around his head, fingers ruffling through his hair as she interrogated him.

Her reasoning was sound. Since he had entered with that court magician, it proved he’d already listened to Parl’s offer.

Had he been against it, he could have shaken his head and refused on the spot. But instead, Kuro merely observed. That was tantamount to tacit approval.

”Kuro. From now on, do not approach Lady Parl at all. If you so much as see her, run away. Show your refusal, no matter what. This is an order. And if you have to, you can come running straight into my room.”

With that, the hand stroking his hair slid downward, slipping beneath his garments.

Her once tender touch now curled possessively, guiding him with slender fingers.

”Still… why is Lady Parl after you in the first place? She said she would give up, but I can’t trust her. That woman will do anything to reach her goals. I don’t even like talking to her.”

Elna frowned, her brows pulling together.

At first glance, she might have looked attractive, but the worry in her eyes was clear. The power in the Beast Country wasn’t easy to understand, yet that court magician clearly had control—even over a princess.

Elna’s wariness of Parl was palpable.

”Kuro… this is something I really shouldn’t say, but never let your guard down around Lady Parl. She may be Forestkin, but she’s nothing like the gentle ones you’ve heard of. She’s aggressive—terrifying. She’s the one who proposed wiping out the Wolfkin and Foxkin. I’ll overlook it just this once. But next time, if something troubles you, come to me first.”

Forestkin. A rare race said to consist only of breathtakingly beautiful men and women. Not as rare as the Gildegant, perhaps, but still—most humans would never meet one in their lifetime.

He listened, frowning, but what shocked him was not the mention of Forestkin.

It was the names Wolfkin and Foxkin. Immediately, he thought of two princesses.

”Come to think of it, Kuro, you’ve already met KuzKuz and RosRos, haven’t you? On the Human Continent, no one would know of them—you must have been surprised. Beast Country is the largest nation in the world, spanning the entire continent. If that’s true, then there should be no princesses besides Elna and Lona. That’s Lady Parl’s plot. Lies. She spread that misinformation to keep the Human Continent from interfering—so that wars in Beast Country could be disguised as mere rebellions.”

With a sigh, the cat princess muttered, Mother shows no mercy.

 Her words widened his eyes.

This was no tale to be told while suckling at a girl’s breast. What she whispered was nothing less than the Beast Nation’s hidden truth. Humans never bothered with Beast Continent affairs—but peel back the veil, and Beast Country was an expansionist empire.

On the Human Continent, conquest was impossible. The reason: the Saint.

Her foresight was absolute. She could predict perfectly when and where a country would wage war. With such knowledge, even the smallest nations could prepare. And now that the Theocracy monopolized the Saint, large-scale aggression was nearly unthinkable.

Whenever her visions appeared, the Theocracy would rally neighboring countries under the banner of God. Instantly, the would-be aggressor became the enemy of the world.

With the entire world as their foe, even great powers faltered. Domestic rivals would rise against them. In an age where adventurers and spellcasters thrived in warfare, a nation—even a vast one—could collapse in an instant. Perhaps only the Second Empire of Dusselhelm could withstand such pressure.

The Saint was the greatest deterrent in history. She had stolen war itself from the world. That was simply how things were now.

But Beast Country had found a loophole.

Even if the Saint foresaw cat Beastkin clashing with fox Beastkin, if it could be dismissed as “quelling rebellion,” then no just cause for Human nations to retaliate existed. Ethnic oppression had justified wars in the past, but whether the world would support such a cause remained doubtful.

”Honestly, Elna doesn’t like it… I never hated KuzKuz, after all. But Mother insists the Beastkin must unite. She says as long as the clans remain divided into many nations, conflict will never end.”

Shlick… shlick…

Her delicate fingers moved, stroking and teasing with merciless sweetness.

The clash between what he heard and what he felt left him dizzy.

How was he supposed to nurse from her chest and, at the same time, absorb revelations about global politics?

Nestled against the breast of this young girl, he felt a strange dissonance. Her cheeks were just a touch redder than before. Her breath, faint though it was, had quickened.

 ”…Hey, Kuro…”

Just moments ago, she had spoken of state secrets.

Now, after a small pause, she revealed the face of a girl.

Her voice was drenched in sweetness, her tone spoiled and coaxing. Any man would know what she was after. Her hand moved faster, grip tightening, stoking the fire already burning within him.

 ”…Nnh…”

He reached for the girl, flushed with hidden heat. His hand slid around her back, cupping the softness of her rear.

Her body was noble, untouchable—something forbidden. Yet when his fingers moved along her curves, she let out a sound like she couldn’t take it anymore.

She didn’t scold him. Encouraged, he grabbed at her with hunger, and she gave in, leaning fully against Klock, draping herself over him.

 ”――Excuse me.”

The voice came from outside the room.

At once, Elna jerked upright. Klock, caught in the motion, tumbled from the bed. Now that he thought of it, the other one hadn’t shown up yet. Seemed she had just arrived.

 ”――Were you busy? My apologies.”

”No, it’s fine. What is it?”

”I’ve come with a message from Lady Anna.”

The one who entered was the secretary cat, Flona.

Elna couldn’t see her through the curtain, but from the floor, Klock’s eyes met hers.

Her expression was hard to read. Toward Klock, with his awkward position in this place, her feelings seemed complicated.

”Sebasnyan, Mother summoned me, didn’t she? What’s the matter?”

Elna hastily tucked her breasts away and stepped out. Her cheeks were still faintly flushed. It was unnatural enough that anyone would imagine what she had been doing behind that curtain.

But Flona said nothing. She only glanced between Elna and Klock once, then let out a quiet sigh.

”Apparently, Her Majesty scolded her. He seemed quite dejected.”

 ”Scolded? What for?”

Facing Flona, Elna lightly slapped her own cheeks, as if to shake off her lingering heat. She then told Flona to return to her room for today.

Klock wondered why she had even called him here in the first place. But when he looked at her, she turned her eyes away.

So, again, there had been no real business.

All day, he had only lain there, suckling her breasts while listening to idle chatter. It was never about Parl, nor had she reproached him.

 What is she even after?

Well, not that he minded. It was easy living, after all.

Puzzled by the strange behavior of the pure white princess, Klock headed back to his quarters to end the day.

He did recognize it as “his” room, though in truth the white, modest chamber had already been entirely occupied by the three catgirls.

Their presence didn’t annoy him anymore.

At first, they had been bothersome, but once he’d slept with them, they had grown shockingly obedient. Thinking about it, there was nothing unpleasant about being liked by women.

They wagged their tails at him, inviting him to sleep with them when he returned.

Now that they could speak again, there was no need for gestures. He even knew their names.

Still, tonight, he left things as they were. He wanted to vent the frustration Elna had left him with on them.

The girl curled around her pillow like a hug doll—the first one he had taken that night.

Sliding between the other two, he mounted the bed and pressed down over her.

 The next day.

It had been three days since his arrival at the Cat Tower.

From morning on, there was a strange restlessness in the air, a faint sense of foreboding.

After waking, he used one catgirl, spent himself, then did it again. By the time he finally left his room, the sun was already high.

Life in the tower was free and easy.

There was hardly anything one could call work. A bit of cleaning here or some minor task there—compared to true labor, it was laughably light. With food, clothing, and shelter all provided, anyone would start thinking slavery wasn’t such a bad deal.

 Yawning, he glanced back.

On the bed behind him, the three girls were still dripping with his seed. Leaving them be, he climbed the tower in search of the secretary cat.

He had to show at least a minimum of obedience.

That meant asking for work now and then.

When he reached the floor used as a hall—

 ”Kuro. Perfect timing. Come quickly.”

Flona appeared, pulling him along in such haste he nearly let out a startled sound.

”――Lady Elna. We have an emergency.”

They arrived at Elna’s chambers. Inside were Lona and three beastkin girls Klock didn’t recognize. They had been in the middle of a discussion.

All at once, every gaze turned on Flona—and on Klock, who knew nothing of the situation.

 ”An emergency? What happened?”

”A major rebellion has broken out in the central region. Bastili Hundred Pits has been attacked and occupied by rebel forces.”

For a moment, silence reigned, as if time itself had stopped.

There were only a few people in the room, so it was quiet whenever no one spoke, but now it felt like sound itself had been stolen away.

”…A rebellion? Could it be, they tried to rescue the comrades imprisoned in Bastili Hundred Pits?”

”We don’t know yet. More information should arrive soon. But that isn’t the only problem.”

Should Klock really be hearing this?

A personal slave he might be, but he was still an outsider. Without the slave mark, he would practically be an enemy. Important intelligence shouldn’t be shared with him. In fact, he should have been ordered to stay away. Why had Flona brought him here?

His questions were cut short by a new shock.

”The rebel army… is said to be led by Hero Anna herself. Bastili Mountain has been obliterated, destroyed on a scale likened to a volcanic eruption.”

This time, the room froze solid.

Elna went stiff, disbelief etched on her face. Even the sharp-tongued Lona sat gaping.

Destruction on the scale of a volcanic eruption. That could only mean Cianie.

Klock threw up his hands inwardly—I’m out of this one.

His lover had declared war on the Beast Country.

* * *

”Sir Klock is nowhere to be found. We searched the facility top to bottom, but there isn’t a single human male.”

One of Boorinel’s inns, chosen and repurposed as a meeting hall.

There, a beastkin bowed, voice subdued. When he lifted his head, the pressure in her eyes made him flinch, trembling despite himself.

”I’ve heard that already. What I want to know is where he is.”

The woman’s cutting reply sent the beastkin retreating, promising to search again before slipping out.

Unreasonable as her manner seemed, it was not without cause.

Her cooperation with the beastkin had been for one purpose only: to secure him. If that goal could not be met, there was no reason for her to hear their words at all.

The beastkin had been the ones to propose striking Bastili Hundred Pits under the hero’s banner, insisting it was the wisest course of action.

The result had been fruitless—a complete waste of time.

No wonder she was angry. To her, only a few things truly mattered. With no space left in her heart, everything else might as well not exist.

 ”…Excuse me.”

The door to the inn’s reception room opened once more.

A woman in a maid’s dress entered, moving with dignified poise and refined grace. Suzette—one of the few who truly understood her.

”I was questioning the freed prisoners. Some gave curious testimony… a few claimed to have seen a human male.”

 ”I’ll see them at once.”

On this continent, humans themselves were rare. Narrow that down to men, and they were rarer still.

And if it had happened within a prison facility, the possibility was even higher.

Cianie and Suzette left the inn, heading straight for the edge of town.

The low grasslands there were filled with tents, beastkin everywhere. The people rescued from Bastili Hundred Pits. Meals were being distributed, bodies cleaned and treated—this place bustled like a refugee camp.

Led by Suzette, Cianie arrived. A large tent stood in the open, like a field headquarters for war councils.

Waiting to greet them were Charlotte of the birdkin, and with her, Lady Cattleya.

Why was Cattleya here, when she was surely drowning in duties?

The answer became clear soon enough.

”Hero, an honor to meet you. I am of the wolfkin. Belandi’s second princess—the Wolf Princess, Beledia.”

”It is a pleasure to meet you, Hero. I am Kuzuha Ashiya, first princess of Karakas.”

It was not only commoners who had been freed from prison.

Two young princesses now bowed deeply before Cianie. Both had been reduced to tattered wrecks, as if tortured, but thanks to treatment, they had recovered enough to stand.

”Belandi’s current lord is one set up to replace the wolfkin after they were exterminated. The wolfkin once ruled there, until the rising catkin overthrew them. The foxkin of Karakas suffered the same—after refusing the catkin’s demand for submission, their entire clan was imprisoned and massacred.”

Cattleya spoke the explanation with a bitter frown. A single misstep, and she might have shared their fate.

But that was not what mattered most to Cianie right now.

”I have a question. Did you see a human man named Klock?”

The two princesses immediately reacted. They raised their heads.

”Yes. That man once took my hand, to flee together.”

”There was a man who freed me from my cell. He was indeed named Klock, a human.”

Their fox and wolf ears twitched sharply in unison.

Cianie closed the distance so fast she seemed to vanish.

 ”Where?! Where did he go?!”

”Ah—! H-he was taken! By the catkin!”

Her first impression might have been of a graceful, noble beauty.

Yet in an instant, she transformed—seizing their borrowed clothes by the collar, her blazing eyes so fierce they threatened to devour them whole.

The wolf princess and Kuzuha both jolted reflexively, tails curling tight in fear.

”Taken by the catkin? Do you know who?”

”Y-yes! The twin princesses of Il Rasiella—Elna and Lona!”

”And also, Irina—the leader of the Hooded Cat Law Group, sister to the Emperor of the Hundred Beasts!”

The two princesses wagged their tails openly, heedless of propriety. No one dared chastise them—everyone here knew the hero was a being beyond mortal limits.

Cianie released them and rose to her feet.

Now she knew Klock’s trail. Now she knew his captors.

Her face remained expressionless, but in her heart burned a raging inferno.

”…I thought so. I suspected as much.”

 It was the Beast Country.

It was Klock who had been abducted.

With those two facts, Cianie’s thoughts naturally circled back to the imperial capital’s incident.

Elna had spoken of revenge against Klock. That possibility had always lingered.

 Now, it was certain.

”Suzette. Cattleya. We’re going to Slomvanilla. Those women knew where Klock was and kept silent. I’ll never forgive that.”

Her quiet killing intent spread outward, making every back straighten, every breath falter.

Only Suzette, perhaps accustomed to it, answered calmly and departed to prepare.

”You two—help me as well. He was kidnapped. He is my husband. I must bring him back alive. I know it will be difficult, given your positions, but lend me your strength.”

Consider it the repayment for saving your lives.

That was all she said before turning her back.

As she departed, Cattleya and Charlotte flew off, and the camp broke into a sudden storm of commotion. Word spread quickly. A full-scale war was about to begin.

 ”…Her husband?”

Once the questioning ended, the two princesses exchanged glances.

They would not be given spears and thrown back into battle—not so soon after being rescued. They were meant to rest in their tent.

Yet their faces showed open bewilderment. Their brows furrowed, eyes widening, expressions darkening until they were frozen in shock.

”I had wondered… were we really subdued by the hero’s husband?”

”…Surely just someone else with the same name. Probably.”

Normally they would be at each other’s throats, but for once, neither spoke further.
