Volume 6 Chapter 67 Counterattack! vs the Cat Law Corps
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Got you♡”
”What?!”
Klock spun around in a panic and swung his fist.
But he hit nothing. Behind him there was only brush and trees.
”Don’t stop! Keep running!”
Someone slapped his back. He came to his senses and sprinted forward again.
Roots snaked across the ground, making every step unstable. Thick bushes slowed him down even more.
Frustrated, he pushed through the forest. The girl clinging to his collar whispered, “Do your best!”
”That was Larana’s art,” she explained. “It’s called Cat Trick. A wind illusion. Wind can bend sound, so she used that to trick you.”
Cat Trick. Strange that cats should be the ones fooling others.
Their arts were different in form, but they were no less dangerous than magic. In truth, they were like martial artists who could also use spells.
”What about Meina?”
”She’s fighting her way toward us! I can feel her magic waves. That girl is amazing. She’s holding off three of us alone.”
Earlier, the hostess had summoned allies.
From her spell came two executives of the Nyan Law Corps: the white cat Larana and the red cat Mina.
Their arrival had turned the battle into a crisis, forcing Klock and the others to flee for their lives.
Of course, the cats were after Klock. They chased at once.
He dove into the woods, but his human legs could not outrun them. All hope seemed lost—until someone stood in their path.
The dropout cat, Meina.
She turned her back to Klock, eyes filled with resolve.
’Leave this to Mī! Go ahead!‘
She faced Irina and the others head-on. Like a stray cat challenging the boss of the alley, she confronted them without fear.
”She’s incredible when she’s brave,” Klock muttered.
Impressed, he kept running. But lightning running and forests were a poor match. He could not go fast, and the cats could follow their scent. Unless he gained huge distance, they would chase forever.
Clicking his tongue, he searched for an answer.
”We can’t just leave Meina. But running forever is impossible. Shouldn’t we turn and fight?”
”…The problem is Aunt Irina. Mina uses fire, Larana uses wind. That gives me a small advantage. But Aunt can do both water and earth. She’s a jack of all trades. That makes her dangerous.”
A jack of all trades was harder than a specialist.
On her own, she would be manageable. But with others, she became a nightmare support. By calling Mina and Larana, Irina had raised their force far more than the sum of three.
”What about that cat summoning spell? Can she call more?”
”No. That wasn’t summoning. It was the reverse of teleportation. Probably an emergency trick to call guards to her. She can only bring people who carry special rods linked to her spell.”
So it was only Mina and Larana. And if it worked like teleportation, then calling more at once would cost too much magic.
”She wrote the formula with her blood in an instant. That means she already had spells connected to those rods in her arms,” Klock reasoned. “She’s probably hiding more like that. That’s what experience gives you. A pro adventurer’s preparation.”
Irina might not be a genius like Elna. She had no flashy talent, but she had lived through many battles.
That made her more dangerous than any prodigy.
Knowledge and experience were weapons. She was perhaps stronger than Elna, Lona, Kuzuha, or any Beastkin Klock had met.
”They’re coming fast. I think one of them broke past Meina. And now Meina is chasing her,” Elna warned.
Three against one was too much. The surprising thing was that Meina had held out this long.
”Got you this time♡”
The soft voice purred at his ear.
”…Larana.”
The sound was close, but she was not beside him. Not a trick this time—he heard the branches as she leapt tree to tree. The noise grew louder. She wasn’t hiding at all.
They could not run.
When Klock stopped and turned, Larana landed right in front of him.
”Are we done playing tag? Sir Klock, it’s cruel to run away from a girl,” she said, smiling.
Swift and graceful, Larana walked toward them. Her heavy chest bounced with every step.
”Sorry, Larana. I’m busy. Save the drinks for later,” Klock said flatly.
”Oh my, how cold. To make a girl chase after you like this—you are such a sinner,” she teased, licking her lips.
She pushed her chest up with her arms and swayed her hips.
Too obvious.
Klock stared hard, but his eyes betrayed him, fixed on her chest.
”If you stare that much, I’ll get embarrassed. Would you like to come into my arms? I’ll hold you tight,” she said sweetly.
”Damn it… that’s cheating!!” he shouted.
Her smile widened. Then Elna’s cold voice hissed behind him. “Kuro… where are you looking?”
A sharp bite of pain snapped him back. “What a terrifying illusion,” he muttered.
”That wasn’t an illusion!! Idiot! Pervert! Cheater!!” Elna screamed, hitting and pulling his ears.
Larana giggled. She made a ring with her fingers, moved her tongue, then lowered it between her breasts. Like she was showing exactly what she’d done at Deep Cat.
If caught, would he be trapped there again? No. He refused to be fooled.
He glared at her without blinking. Then sharp teeth sank into his neck.
”Sir Klock!!”
Elna had bitten him. But golden light rushed between them, pushing her aside. Meina appeared at his side.
”Meina, are you okay?”
”Yes, I’m fine! Sorry, I couldn’t hold them. Did you get hurt?”
”I’m fine. Just Elna’s bite.”
”Whose fault do you think that was?!” Elna shouted, but he ignored her.
Meina’s return tightened the mood. Larana’s eyes sharpened.
”Nyah. We caught up,” said another voice.
Dirt and leaves whirled. Two more figures appeared, tails swaying—brown and black.
The hostess, Mina, and Larana now stood together.
”Back again, hostess. You must have missed me,” Klock taunted.
”That’s right. I can’t forget you. I’ll tie you up tight and take you home. Then I’ll introduce you to my family,” she said.
Family. A chilling word. Klock stepped back. Meina’s ears twitched, and she moved with him.
The three cats pressed forward. Their faces grew serious. The air grew heavy.
”Meina. Do something flashy. We need the flow on our side.”
”Okay. Leave it to me.”
Battle was all about flow. If they lost momentum, they would lose everything.
But if Elna and Meina fought together, they had a chance.
”Sage Art, Water Style—No Bath Allowed!”
Meina’s hands flashed through seals. She clapped, and magic rose like steam. She turned her back on the enemy for just a moment. Larana lunged at her.
Too late. Meina kicked the ground.
A geyser exploded upward.
”Whoa?!”
Water roared between them like a breaking dam. For a heartbeat, Klock saw the cats’ shocked faces. Then Elna and Meina dragged him away at a sprint.
Water did not burn like fire, but pressure could kill just as easily.
”To make this much water here—what a genius, nya!” Irina shouted, soaked but still standing.
”You brat! My clothes are ruined!” Mina screamed.
They had been drenched. That alone would slow them down.
”Great job, Meina. You’re amazing.”
”Really? Praise me more~” she beamed.
Klock wanted to ruffle her hair, but now was not the time. Still, he felt the tide turning. First strikes were everything.
But then—
”Stop resisting! Surrender, nya!!” Irina cried. She was the leader, the Emperor’s sister, and no easy foe.
”Flame Fan Dance—” she began, forming seals. Everyone braced—when fireballs suddenly came from behind her.
They dodged. Meina shot them down with water, Elna fired lightning. Lightning was faster than fire, giving them an edge.
”The red cat, Mina…”
”Don’t look at me.”
The red-haired catgirl appeared, flames on her feet. Number two of the Corps, second only to Irina.
Her fury was plain. The water had ruined her colorful clothes.
”What’s your problem? Is that your real mouth?” Klock asked.
”Shut up. Gross. Die,” she spat.
She was too angry to speak.
Of course—cats hated water.
Klock shivered. This fight was only beginning.
Meina shoved the hostess aside and leapt, kicking through the air with blazing speed.
Her fiery assault rained down like a dance. Trees burned, roots crackled, and Klock had to duck behind trunks to avoid being roasted alive.
”Damn… this one’s insane…”
Fire really was the worst. A direct hit meant he’d be roasted whole. Even a graze burned him, gnawed at his stamina, and drained his will to fight.
The forest glowed red, every path ahead filling with flames. There was no room for counterattack—only desperate defense.
”Why run from me? If you defeat me, you can do whatever you want with me afterwards♡”
It was Larana again, smiling even with her clothes soaked. If she ever went back to the Deep Cat, she’d be the top girl without question.
Klock almost thought it would be easier to just give in to her. Maybe even losing to her wouldn’t be so bad…
”Pathetic. A real man doesn’t run, nya. We cats fight knowing if we lose, the victor can do whatever he likes. And yet you run from women who’ve already made up their minds? Did you drop your manhood somewhere, guest?”
Irina’s mocking voice cut through. She grinned broadly, making it sting all the more.
”Hah! You’re the ones suited to kneel before c*ck. Why not wear cuffs on your arms as jewelry? Bend over like that and maybe I’ll fall in love with your elegance,” Klock shot back.
”Please. You’re better suited to being sat on, all bark and no bite. That c*ck of yours is nothing but decoration,” Irina sneered.
At that, Larana and Mina giggled. Their laughter reeked of superiority.
Klock clenched his teeth. He hated how true their confidence felt.
”Kuro, this won’t last,” Elna whispered. “Right now you’re only keeping up because of my lightning enchantment. They’re just running normally. Once your stamina or my mana gives out, we’ll lose.”
Her words hit hard. Elna’s lightning pushed him faster than ever, but it drained both of them. She barely had enough left for defense.
Meanwhile, their pursuers ran at full strength, holding back their power. They were waiting for him to collapse. Worse, they were avoiding all-out attacks so they wouldn’t hurt Elna, the Empress’s daughter.
”…I might be at my limit,” Elna admitted quietly.
Meina started, “I’ll distract them again, then—”
”No. You can’t hold off this many. Fighting head-on would be better than that,” Klock cut in.
Elna shook her head. “No, we can’t win. The Nyan Law Corps have crossed blades with countless Beastkin. Mina and Larana are elite. A frontal clash is suicide.”
He looked back. The cats had clearly heard her. Mina smirked, cruel and knowing.
”Men who only talk big are pathetic. Relying on women all the time,” she taunted, leaping with fire trailing from her feet.
Her words were raw. Not just provocation—real scorn.
Klock’s hand went to his knife. No man could take that and stay silent.
”Kuro.”
Elna’s hand covered his, stopping him. “You can use Acceleration Magic, can’t you?”
The memory returned—when he fled the Bastili Hundred Pits with the wolf princess, he had surged forward unnaturally fast.
”If I give the signal, use it. Meina, hold on to him then.”
He nodded. At his waist hung only his plain old knife, Valerie. In his pocket, a few worn paper magic circles. Enough to try.
”What’s the plan?”
”Secret,” Elna said with a small smile.
He and Meina exchanged glances. They had no choice but to trust her.
”Good terrain, nya. Let’s end this,” Irina declared.
They reached a stretch where tangled roots blocked the ground. Perfect for a trap.
Klock thought fast. Fire would risk Elna. Water was possible. Most likely—wind.
”Wind Style, Gale Wave!!” Irina roared.
”Wind Style, Cat’s Vortex!!” Meina countered.
A blast swept at their feet to topple them, but Meina raised a whirling barrier.
”Kuro! Now!!”
Now?! He hesitated, then shoved mana into a talisman. Power surged through his body. He kicked off the ground with all his strength.
He vaulted into the branches. Meina clung to his shoulder. The cats closed from behind—he jumped farther, higher.
”Volo!!” Elna cried.
The effect was instant. Instead of falling, they kept moving through the sky itself.
Klock blinked. Irina below stared, equally stunned.
”You can FLY?!” Klock shouted.
”You can fly?!” Irina echoed in disbelief.
Elna gave them a flat look. “What are you saying? Elna’s always been flying. Of course I can make others fly too.”
Then why didn’t we do this from the start?! Klock screamed inside. But he swallowed it. You didn’t argue when your life was in your ally’s hands.
Below, Mina shrieked, “Coward! Running away, you limp-dicked idiot customer!!”
Flames and curses flew upward, but Elna dodged lightly. Klock flipped them off instead.
Her glare stabbed into him. He vowed then—Mina, at least, he would make cry someday.
”Mī, hold tighter to Elna,” Klock urged.
”Huh? O-okay…”
Elna pulled Meina close. “I’m sorry, Mī. I didn’t know what you were going through. If Kuro saved you, then he was right. Hug me if you need. Think of me as your big sister.”
”B-big sister?!” Meina gasped.
Just like that, the air softened. Cats could switch from killing intent to playfulness in a heartbeat.
Meina leaned into Elna, ears drooping, and let herself be comforted.
* * *
Meanwhile on the ground, Mina and Larana regrouped with Irina.
”Not chasing them?” Mina asked.
Irina shook her head. “ElnEln still had plenty of strength. Chasing flying targets through a forest would be suicide. We’ll let them go… for now.”
The trio sighed. Cats were agile, but not built to pursue into the sky.
”They were heading west before. Now they fly north, but it’s a bluff. Their destination is definitely Fwavlotz. We’ll settle this there,” Irina said.
The cats turned westward. “Maybe they plan to escape by ship?”
”Most likely. But the Rize Sea Strait has been sealed by the merfolk. Ships can’t leave port. That news only broke yesterday. I doubt they know yet.”
It was true. On the eve of war in Slomvanilla, the merfolk had closed the seas. Fishkin were involved now—making it a far larger matter.
”The Fishkin chieftain Primjune is one of the Demon Lord’s Four Heavenly Kings. Also a high seat in the Council of United Kingdoms. She’ll never aid humans.”
”Merfolk hate catkin anyway. If they ask for help, they might be killed on sight. Which means Fwavlotz is a trap waiting to spring.”
The decision was clear. The three nodded, then split up into the forest’s silence.
The next battlefield was set: the western port town of Fwavlotz, capital of the cats’ domain, gateway to the Human Continent.
The final clash was moving to the cat town.
