Chapter 113

In the Valend Cave Kingdom, the flying machine was finally complete ―― that night.
(Thanks to other people’s skill and money, I could eat good food and take it easy… life was the best.)
Thinking such lazy thoughts, Ayumu crawled into bed in his room. But soon he felt a strange, fine vibration.
”Huh? It feels like shaking? An earthquake? So this otherworld has earthquakes too…”
At first he thought it was nothing. But the shaking grew stronger and stronger, until that calm thought was blown away!
”Whaaaat?! No way, this isn’t an earthquake! What is this?!”
Something was wrong. Yes, it was shaking, but… it felt less like the ground was moving and more like space itself was trembling. It was a very bad feeling!
Terrified, Ayumu rushed to the window. He saw dwarf military units marching out, weapons in hand, in perfect formation.
(The army is moving… fully armed in formation… something serious must have happened.)
He felt a disaster coming close.
Acting on that instinct, he ran down the palace corridor and out into the well-kept garden. There, he saw King Torygg, his face grim, giving orders. Ayumu hurried over, and the king noticed him too.
”Sanai…”
King Torygg said his name with heavy meaning. “So you already heard the noise? Hm… but you came at the right time.” He beckoned Ayumu closer.
”Your Majesty?! What happened? I was sleeping when I felt some kind of shaking,” Ayumu asked, full of questions.
King Torygg answered in a voice full of urgency. “You must return to the palace at once and tell everyone to evacuate! I feared this day might come… The Antsauroids are marching here in a great swarm!”
”What?! Antsauroids?! That’s crazy! This is really bad!!”
The information made Ayumu panic. Antsauroids were coming straight toward them!
If this were a real story’s hero, he would say, “I will fight beside you, Your Majesty!” But Ayumu was not that kind of man. He had no power to fight strong enemies, not even the courage to face weak ones head-on.
…Not that it was something to be proud of. Anyway, he could not fight. He was too scared. All he could do was what he was able to do. Yes!
With no time to lose, he shouted, “Understood, Your Majesty! Leave it to me! I will evacuate with everyone right away!” Then he ran back into the palace, banging on the doors of high officials, one after another.
Because he had the king’s ring, set with a giant gemstone, everyone in the palace moved quickly. Soon the Grand Palace was filled with dwarves rushing about in confusion.
(I need to meet up with Sashima and evacuate too!)
He hurried back to his room, grabbed his notes and books, and packed them quickly. Then he went next door to Sashima’s room.
She was still asleep. Even with chaos all around, she could sleep soundly. She was impressive, but she had to wake up!
”Ms. Sashima! Wake up! Get up, quick! This is no time to be sleeping!”
He yanked the blanket away and shook her body hard. Finally, she rubbed her sleepy eyes and woke up.
”…Sanai? What is it? Why are you here at this time?” she asked.
When he told her that the two-legged ant monsters were swarming toward them, she cried out, “What?! How could that be?!”
”Calm down! Anyway, they are already coming! We need to evacuate fast,” he said, trying to calm her.
