Rerobaku 112

Chapter 112

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Caesaran Empire ―― on the road ―――

The wagons with wooden spoke wheels, like old bicycles, moved in order along the fine stone-paved road.

(The Imperial Capital Goon, where we were only a few hours ago, already looked like a grain of rice far away…)

As the capital grew smaller in the distance, Mineyama watched from the shaking wagon and thought that, in this moment, they were leaving Caesar behind.

The other day, a messenger came from Alyurein. According to him, the great counterattack involving all nations was ready to begin. For this reason, Alyurein was calling back the heroes who were not already sent ahead.

From the Caesaran Empire, the strongest force, known as the Emperor’s Sword, the “Twin Greatswords of Flugel,” would go with Mineyama’s group of heroes. Alongside them came a large army of fifteen thousand soldiers.

 ”What a sight…”

One of the boys whispered as he looked at the medieval-looking army, but Mineyama, lost in thought, did not hear him. Sayumi Mineyama was remembering what had happened in the Birene Mine Tunnel.

In that tunnel, the group was attacked by two-legged ant monsters. Classmates Iwaya Tomoharu and Takuma Sada died there, along with many other things that had happened.

But what shocked everyone the most was the discovery that Ayumu Sanai, thought dead after being judged talentless and reckless, had actually survived.

 ***

Sakamoto and Mizutani, as well as Tokihara, Ootori, and even her best friend Yuki, all said they saw Sanai alive.

It was joyful to know Sanai lived, but that news also brought Mineyama a shocking truth.

From the shape of the weapon Sanai carried, as described by Sakamoto and Mizutani, and from what Tokihara’s group had heard him say—that he tried to help Ms. Mineyama but accidentally killed Sada—she learned that Sanai had killed a classmate.

She could not hide her shock that one classmate killed another. But what shocked her even more was how quickly the boys accepted it.

”It was just trash killing trash. Don’t worry about it, Ms. Mineyama,” they said, showing cold and dry attitudes right away.

(Why… why can they be so cold to people who were once their friends…)

Since coming to this world, Mineyama had suffered watching how her classmates had changed. The boys, especially, had become cruel. Maybe the blessings they received gave them too much power, and they stopped hiding the ugly sides of themselves.

But at the same time, she wondered… in their situation, were they the ones who were actually right? Or, if none of them had blessings, would they all have been different, like Sanai?

(Sanai… why did you stain your hands with blood just to save me?)

Even if she had not killed Sada with her own hands, every time that question rose in her heart, the guilt and weakness that forced a classmate to do it squeezed her chest.

Of course, no one could give her an answer. Mineyama kept asking herself again and again, but the only reply was the dull creaking of the wagon and the shaking of its body.
