Chapter 62 Lil ⑩
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Sieben-sama, I assume you’re here to collect the bounties on these wanted men and to sell off your monster materials?” the receptionist asked.
”That’s right,” Sieben said. “I also want to know if any of the loot the bandits were hoarding was reported stolen. I found a dagger with a family crest-I’d like to return it to the owner if possible.”
I waited as the receptionist took down the details. If there was a way to get that blade back to its rightful house, I wanted to take it.
”Understood. That will take some time to track, so let’s start with the bounties. Who are the targets?” she asked.
”Zayed and… Zorge, I think. I have the heads, but-” Sieben started.
”I see… however, it’ll cause a scene if you pull those out here. We’ll verify them in a private room. And for the monster materials?” the receptionist asked.
”Let’s go with twenty Wyverns ¹,” Sieben said.
”Twen-!?” The receptionist nearly choked on her words. “I… my apologies. That’s far too many for the lobby. Would you mind heading back to the warehouse? It’s a bit of a hike, but we need the floor space.”
It made sense. Between the severed heads and the dragon-kin, this wasn’t a “front desk” kind of job. I followed her through the guild’s back corridors until we reached the massive warehouse.
”Right this way,” she said.
Inside, the air was thick with the scent of copper and raw hide. Groups of laborers were busy field-dressing various beasts. Most monsters were only good for a few parts, but Wyverns were different-every inch of them had a market price. Professional butchers were already moving into position.
”Hey, kid, you lost? What’s a brat like you doing on the killing floor?” a butcher barked, wiping a blood-stained blade on his apron.
”I’ve got some materials to move. The desk sent me back here because of the volume,” Sieben replied.
”Hah! Volume? I don’t see a damn thing,” the butcher laughed.
I reached into my Item Box ² and began dumping the Wyvern carcasses. They slammed onto the stone floor with a succession of heavy, wet thuds. The receptionist and the butcher stood paralyzed. It was one thing to hear about an Item Box holder; it was another to see a mountain of high-grade predators manifest out of thin air. By the time the twentieth carcass hit the pile, the room was silent.
”Are you for real…” the butcher muttered.
”I thought she was exaggerating at the desk,” the receptionist whispered, “but seeing it all at once…”
”Well,” the butcher said, spitting on the floor, “looks like we won’t be running out of leather or meat anytime soon.”
Wyverns were always in demand. The meat actually tasted like a rich, gamey poultry.
”So, what’s the quote?” Sieben asked.
”Standard market is ten silver coins per Wyvern… so that’s two large silver coins total,” the receptionist said.
”Hold on,” the butcher interrupted, inspecting one of the hides. “These are clean. No messy hack jobs, no shredded skin. You should put a little extra on the top for quality like this.”
He was right. I’d dropped them all with precision Wind Magic strikes.
”By my count… call it twelve silver a head,” the butcher said. “If the entry wounds were any smaller, I’d have gone to fifteen.”
”Is that acceptable? That would be two large silver and forty silver coins total,” the receptionist asked.
”No complaints from me. Let’s do it,” Sieben said.
”Understood. Let’s move to the annex to check those heads,” she replied.
* * *
”The total comes to six large silver coins and forty silver coins. Please accept it,” the receptionist said.
She placed two pouches on the tray-one heavy with the dull clink of large silver, the other chiming with standard coins. The bounty for Zayed was three large silver, while Zorge fetched one. It was a decent haul, though considering I’d already stripped the bandits’ hideout of every coin they had, this felt more like a formality.
”By the way, Sieben-sama… have you considered forming a Clan ³?” she asked.
”A Clan?” Sieben asked.
Essentially, a Clan was just a high-level party. You couldn’t even register one unless the leader held a metal tag-meaning Red Copper ⁴ rank or higher. The perks were great: you could take a 10% cut of member rewards for a guild fund, and eventually buy a base. The downside was the liability. If a member screwed up or broke the law, the leader’s reputation went up in flames with the rest of the group. Still, the benefits were too good to pass up.
”Wait, what? Sieben-han ⁵, are ye startin’ a Clan?” Mime asked, appearing from the crowd.
She wasn’t alone. Alisha and Mercedes were right on her heels.
”I’m… thinking about it,” Sieben admitted.
”What’s there to think about? You’d be crazy not to!” Mime said.
”It’s true~,” Alisha added in her usual sing-song voice. “If you start one~, I’ll be totally signing up~!”
”Me too!” Mercedes said, puffing out her chest. “I mean… I guess I wouldn’t mind joining, if you really wanted me there.”
All three of them were practically vibrating with excitement.
”Besides~, once you’ve got a Clan~, you can get sponsors and backers~. It’s such a good deal~!” Alisha chirped.
”Fumu… let me talk it over with Lil and the others first,” Sieben said.
I headed back to the table where Lil, Honoka, and Himezaki Natsumi were waiting. I laid out the plan.
”I will follow wherever Sieben leads,” Lil said.
”I’m in,” Honoka agreed.
”I think it’s a great idea. Plus, I have a lead on a benefactor who might be interested in sponsoring us,” Himezaki Natsumi said.
I wondered what kind of “lead” she had, but with everyone on board, the decision was made. I walked back to the counter.
”I’d like to register a Clan,” Sieben told the receptionist.
”Very well. Please fill out the name, the leader, and the sub-leader on this form,” she said.
I wrote my name in the leader’s box.
”Master is obviously the leader,” Honoka said, leaning over my shoulder, “but who’s the second-in-command?”
I looked at Lil. So did Honoka, Himezaki Natsumi, and the three girls behind me.
”Eh? What? Why is everyone looking at me?” Lil stammered, her face turning bright red.
”It’s the only choice that makes sense,” Honoka teased.
”Exactly. You are Sieben-kun’s wife, after all,” Himezaki Natsumi added.
”No objections!” the other three shouted.
”And there it is,” Sieben said, writing it down. “Sub-leader: Lil.”
”Wait! Just a second! I can’t do that!” Lil cried.
”Too late, it’s already on the form. Besides, you’ve got the popular vote,” Sieben said.
”Ugh, you just ignored me and did whatever you wanted again…” Lil muttered, her shoulders slumping.
”Is that a no?” Sieben asked.
”…Fine, I’ll do it. Honestly… you’re unbelievable…” Lil said, finally giving in.
I knew she could handle it. “Sub-leader” was mostly a title for the paperwork anyway.
”So, what’s the name?” Mercedes asked. “Please tell me it isn’t some cringey edgelord nonsense.”
”I decided on the name a long time ago,” Sieben said.
I put the pen to the paper and wrote a single word:
**’Renegade’**
A traitor. An apostate. Someone who turns their back on their faith. I didn’t need to explain what I was rebelling against. A Hero who hunts Heroes. An enemy of the Goddess Aurelia. I felt a bit bad for Alisha, but no other name was this perfect.
”Renegade…” Lil whispered. “It has a strange, heavy ring to it.”
”Hmm. It’s actually pretty decent. I like it,” Mercedes said.
”Ahaha… it’s perfect for Master,” Honoka giggled.
”Oh, that is cool,” Mime added.
It seemed to be a hit. Even if they didn’t know the full irony, they felt the weight of the word.
”Renegade… I wonder what it means~?” Alisha asked.
”Who cares! You’re letting us in, right?” Mime asked. “Our last job was a total bust, so we’re officially flat broke. Help a girl out, yeah?”
”Seriously, I don’t even have a copper left!” Mercedes pleaded. “Please let us join!”
They were clearly desperate. While Alisha had her shrine maiden work, the other two were living on prayers. Having them around would be the perfect cover for our real goals anyway.
”Alright. Mime, Alisha, Mercedes-you’re in. Looking forward to it,” Sieben said.
”Yes! You won’t regret it!” Mime cheered.
”I’ll do my very best~!” Alisha said.
”Thanks, Sieben!” Mercedes added.
”And obviously, I’m joining too,” Himezaki Natsumi said, slipping herself onto the roster.
I looked at the group. Leader: Me. Sub-leader: Lil. Members: Honoka, Himezaki Natsumi, Mime, Alisha, and Mercedes. It was a harem in every sense of the word-nothing but beautiful women gathered under my name. I could feel the daggers in my back from every man in the guild hall, their glares sharp enough to kill.
I didn’t care. Let them watch.
That day, the Clan ‘Renegade’ was officially born.

Summary:
Sieben cashes in his bounties and sells a massive haul of twenty Wyverns to the guild, shocking the staff. Following the windfall, he decides to establish a formal Clan to consolidate his allies. He chooses the name ‘Renegade’ as a silent declaration of his rebellion against the Goddess Aurelia.
—
Trivia:
- Sieben specifically asked to cross-reference stolen items to return a family crest dagger.
- Wyverns have market value in every part, not just rare drops.
- Clan formation requires a metal tag (Red Copper rank).
- Sieben’s choice of sub-leader (Lil) was influenced by a group ‘popular vote’ and his relationship status.
- The term ‘Renegade’ specifically means apostate, signaling his religious rebellion
—
Character Insight:
Sieben is transitioning from a solo ‘avenger’ to a leader. While he maintains a cold exterior, he demonstrates a sense of honor by wanting to return stolen noble goods and responsibility by establishing a structure for his followers.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The author originally considered the name ‘Rebel’ or ‘Traitor’ but felt ‘Renegade’ captured the nuance of a turncoat/apostate better for the protagonist’s specific vendetta against the divine.
