Chapter 71 Tenkouin Reika and Samidare Satsuki ②
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Now, I’ll need you to place your seal on these documents as well,” Sebastian said.
He slammed a heavy stack of ledgers onto the desk in front of me with a heavy thud.
”There’s more? I really shouldn’t have started a new guild…” I muttered.
”It’s simply the nature of the position, sir,” Sebastian replied.
I was currently buried under a mountain of paperwork. Most of it concerned the revenue settlements for my new venture. Since I had never been taught a thing about management, the work was a nightmare. Technically, I was just stamping seals, but I still had to catch calculation errors or push back against the more outrageous requests that crossed my desk.
That new guild – the Casino Guild ¹ – was entirely my brainchild.
To be honest, this country – or rather, this entire world – was catastrophically devoid of gambling. I won’t say the games themselves didn’t exist, but the concept of a dedicated casino was entirely absent. So, I decided to build one. I had Georg-san ², the Guild Master of Merchant Guild Foxia, pull some strings. With the combined efforts of the Architect Guild and the Artisan Guild, the casino was completed just one month after I proposed the idea.
Of course, we struggled to find our footing at first. The place was a total flop until I changed tactics. I secured the cooperation of the Dark Guild to plant some shills, and that finally drummed up enough of a crowd to fill the floor.
Now I was paying for that success by drowning in red tape…
Tatei helped out, too. He was the one who transmuted the slot machines and roulette wheels. He even built a manufacturing press for the playing cards and coins so we could mass-produce them. It led to a rather profitable oversight: the playing cards themselves were selling like wildfire.
The casino wasn’t just a gold mine; it gave me access to new networks. Beyond the artisans and architects, I somehow ended up with a direct line to the Brothel Guild. And then there were the servitude merchants – the legitimate ones, anyway – who had been absorbed by Merchant Guild Foxia.
I’d wanted a bit of spectacle, so I’d hand-picked a few “beauties” from their stock to serve as my bunny girls. You can’t have a casino without them. Ironically, I hadn’t expected that nearly all the girls I hired were the former mistresses of that late, bloated pig.
They’d been “liberated” once, but after a lifetime of being pampered and drowning in Sloth and Lust, they couldn’t stomach a normal life. They’d been sold back into service – often by the very lovers or husbands they’d betrayed. It was pathetic, really. A few tried to make a clean start, but for the rest, I bought their contracts and put them to work in ears and tails.
They were lazy at first, but I’m a firm believer that those who don’t work, don’t eat. A few rounds of “no food and zero pay” snapped them right into shape. You have to be firm with people like that.
Even Zayed’s former lover ended up in a bunny suit. When she heard how he’d met his miserable end from my acquaintances, it seemed to break her. She was the only one who sold herself into my service voluntarily and has been working properly as a lifelong servant ever since.
All in all, the casino operation was running smoothly.
* * *
My plate was full of other duties, too. Chief among them was the meeting of the Eight Great Guilds. For some reason, my mansion had been chosen as the venue this time.
To understand Greedia’s politics, you have to look past the surface. It’s a democracy with a bicameral legislature – an Upper House of 63 and a Lower House of 255. But behind the curtain, there’s a power that dwarfs them: The Octagram Council ³. It’s composed of the Guild Masters of the eight major guilds, and the chairmanship rotates between our estates.
The “Big Eight” include Merchant Guild Foxia, the Artisan Guild, the Architect Guild, the Monster Hunter Guild, Guild Mercenary, the Sorcery Guild, the Brothel Guild, and the Assassin Guild. The Assassin Guild never operates openly; instead, their Master maintains a public-facing guild to fill the seat. It used to be the Servitude Merchant Guild; now, it was my Casino Guild.
Which meant that scum pig had also been a member of the Octagram. No wonder he thought he could do whatever he pleased.
”I’ll tell you one thing – I’m glad I don’t have to look at that fat bastard’s face anymore. It’s a goddamn relief!”
The man laughing boisterously was Rand, the Guild Master of Guild Mercenary. He was in his late 40s, with a mess of brown hair, a rugged beard, and a single eye. He was a mountain of a man, easily twice my size, and every bit as loud as he looked.
”He was always pushing his luck. I thought it would turn out like this eventually,” Clovis added flatly.
He was the head of the Monster Hunter Guild. Despite leading a pack of rowdy hunters, Clovis was lean, composed, and wore a pair of sharp spectacles over his narrow eyes. He looked more like an administrator than a warrior. He was likely in his early 30s.
They were the only two I hadn’t met yet. These meetings didn’t always require a full house; Georg-san and the head of the Artisan Guild had sat this one out.
”He was a moron resting on his laurels with a unique skill,” Rand snorted. “Even I could’ve killed a guy like that.”
”Lord Rand, stop the idle chatter right there,” Minette-san ⁴ interrupted.
She was the head of the Sorcery Guild and Jessica’s grandmother. She was the one who’d sent Jessica to me, claiming it would be a waste to let her talents rot while I was short-handed.
”My bad, my bad,” Rand grinned. “I just didn’t expect the new Master to be such a cub. Name’s Rand. Glad to meet ya.”
”The pleasure is mine. I’m Sieben. Since I’ve only just stepped into this role, I’m still finding my feet. I hope I can count on your cooperation,” I said.
”Hah! Look at you – mask and all. You look the part way more than Antonio ever did. Wait… I know you. You were in my guild, weren’t you?” Rand asked.
”He was registered with the Hunters, too,” Clovis noted. “Someone appearing with Red Copper rank out of nowhere makes for good gossip. You were quite the topic of conversation.”
”I certainly didn’t imagine I would end up in this chair,” I said with a light laugh. Life is full of surprises.
”Now then, shall we begin? Today’s agenda -“
The meeting wasn’t particularly eventful. We discussed how the casino was jump-starting the stagnant economy. There was some talk about “casino addiction” and what to do about the losers, but in my opinion, if you can’t control yourself, that’s your own problem.
The moneylenders and servitude merchants were certainly flourishing, though…
”I still don’t get why no one thought of this sooner. Well, it’s kept our hammers swinging, so I’m not complaining,” Gullion said.
He was the head of the Architect Guild, a stubborn man in his 50s who insisted on being called “Master Builder.”
I had a theory about that. Most Heroes summoned to this world were high school kids from Japan, where gambling like Pachinko is strictly 18+. They probably felt a sense of moral obligation and stuck to harmless things like Reversi. Every time a Hero is summoned, the culture here gets a little bump – a century ago, it was the food. But I didn’t have those hang-ups.
”Hey, hey, Zee-chan~”
”Please… stop calling me that,” I said.
”Ehh? Why so cold? I think it’s cute…”
The woman pouting at me was Octavia, the Master of the Brothel Guild. She was a stunning woman with wavy purple hair and an outfit that left absolutely nothing to the imagination. She was also a high-ranking priestess of the Aurelia Church and Alisha’s senior. At 24, she was the youngest Master after me. She was gorgeous, but she made my skin crawl.
”What is it, Octavia?” I asked.
”Is it true you’re designing new outfits? Things a bit more… provocative than the bunny suits? Your ‘big sister’ here is more than a little curious. I heard about that maid outfit Honoka-chan wears, and the china dress Lil-chan wears,” Octavia said.
”Honoka’s is a bit extreme, but I can do china dresses. I have a few other ideas, too. Nurse uniforms, for instance,” I replied.
”Nurse uniforms?! Oh, you have my attention… Tell me more. What do they look like?”
Octavia leaned across the table with all her might, offering a very deliberate view of her cleavage. Rand gave an appreciative whistle.
”I’ll explain later,” I said, looking away.
”You better! I’m holding you to that!” Octavia chirped.
She was like a child in a woman’s body. She was always dropping by to see Lil and the others. She’d take one look at Lil-chan’s ears and tail and mutter something about “the potential.” I didn’t need to ask what she meant.
The meeting meandered on until a sharp knock at the door broke the flow.
”Who is it?” I asked.
”It’s Sebastian, sir. There is something I must bring to your attention immediately,” he replied.
”Enter.”
Sebastian hurried in and whispered into my ear. My eyes widened.
”What’s happened?” Rand asked.
”It seems… someone just hit the grand jackpot on the twenty-one-reel slot machine,” I said.
”That monster!?” Rand shouted. Apparently, he’d already tried his luck and lost.
”Who was it?” I asked Sebastian.
”Not anyone from this town, sir. A party of four women. As for their descriptions…”
As Sebastian detailed their appearances, a slow, cold smile spread across my face.
I knew them. I knew them very well.
Tenkouin Reika and Samidare Satsuki.
The girl who made my life a living hell, and the girl who betrayed my kindness with a knife in the back. Of all the students from my old life, I hated these two the most.
Just killing them would be too boring. Oh, the things I’m going to do to you.
I was already looking forward to it.

Summary:
Sieben establishes a flourishing Casino Guild in Greedia, utilizing transmuted technology and ‘liberated’ bunny girls. He attends the high-stakes Octagram Council meeting where he meets the boisterous Rand and the cool-headed Clovis. The chapter ends with Sebastian revealing that Sieben’s former classmates, Reika and Satsuki, have arrived at the casino and hit the jackpot.
—
Trivia:
- The protagonist is technically the head of the Assassin Guild, holding a seat on the Octagram Council.
- The bunny girls are actually former mistresses of the corrupt merchant Sieben previously defeated.
- Gambling didn’t exist in this world previously because former Heroes were Japanese students with moral hang-ups.
- Octavia is not just a brothel master but also a priestess of the Aurelia Church.
- Tatei is the one transmuting the advanced machinery for the casino
—
Character Insight:
Sieben demonstrates ruthless efficiency in management and a lack of empathy for ‘addicts’ or the ‘lazy.’ His excitement at the end highlights that his trauma from being bullied in his previous life remains a driving force for his cruelty.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The author uses the casino as a narrative device to explain how modern cultural elements are introduced into the fantasy world via ‘Heroes’.
