”Waaaaah! Waaaaah!”
”There, there! Everyone is so energetic. It’s wonderful!”
The next day, the cries of five infants echoed through the Ddo-Buddy Mansion. They wiggled their tiny limbs inside the large crib sent by Her Majesty the Queen, calling out for their mothers. It had been a noisy affair since yesterday, but it was the best kind of chaos.
I wasn’t sure if it was thanks to the birth amulets¹ or the luck of the shop, but the deliveries had been remarkably smooth. Even Granny Miranda, my mentor in magic pharmacology who served as the midwife, joked, “Maybe you don’t even need me anymore?” Of course, I’ll keep calling her. You can’t be too careful when lives are on the line.
”There, there!”
”Aren’t they sweet, Momo? You have so many little brothers and sisters now.”
”Pai! Pai!”
I picked up my darling daughter, Momo, and let her peer into the crib. She reached her tiny hands toward the newborns. Just as she does with my son, Wakaba, she seemed to already understand the joy of being a big sister. Is she a genius? She might just be.
I really should introduce them. First, my dear Laika gave birth to a girl with the same orange hair as her mother. She had tiny dog ears on her head and a wagging tail – the very definition of adorable. I named her Mikan. There were plenty of citrus-themed names to choose from, but I had to go with the classic. Since we already have Momo and Wakaba, it felt right.
Next was my beloved Aerith’s turn, and she gave us a happy surprise: identical twin girls. Wolf-eared twin daughters – their ‘moe’ factor is going to be off the charts in a few years. Naming them was a challenge. I had ‘Gray’ or ‘Ash’ ready for a boy, and ‘Chaco’ or ‘Pale’ for a girl, but twins threw me for a loop. I eventually settled on Heine and Kaine. In kanji, both names mean ‘Gray Sound’.
Since they’re girls, I worry about their future ‘heat’ cycles, but with our shop’s inventory and the bond they’ll share with Mikan, I’m sure they’ll manage just fine.
Finally, my Lady Tina gave birth to a boy who inherited her silver hair and crimson eyes. He is a son of the direct Duke Badcage bloodline. My father-in-law, Roost Badcage, was overwhelmed with joy. I never expected the Duke to shout that loud or shed so many tears.
The other fathers-in-law were just as thrilled, slapping each other on the back to celebrate their new grandchildren. I took a few of those hits myself and ended up face-down on the carpet, but I didn’t mind.
I consulted the Duke regarding the boy’s name, out of respect for the Badcage house. He simply told me, “Please, name him as you have the others,” and left it entirely to me. I chose the name Silva. Since it ends in a ‘va’ sound, I’m a little worried Momo might get him confused with Wakaba.
To summarize: my eldest daughter, Momo, daughter of my dear Lily. My eldest son, Wakaba, son of my beloved Tania. My second daughter, Mikan, daughter of Laika. My third and fourth daughters, the twins Heine and Kaine, daughters of Aerith. And finally, my second son, Silva, son of Lady Tina. Four girls and two boys – six siblings in all.
”Come here, Wakaba. That cry means you’re hungry, doesn’t it?”
”There, there, Mikan. Do you want some milk too?”
”Hehe, Heine and Kaine are so full of life. I’m glad I have two breasts to go around.”
”Mama is right here, Silva. Time for your milk, just like the others!”
The mothers gathered their children. Whether they were hungry or just lonely, there is no place better than a mother’s arms. As the room grew quiet, I watched them from the sofa.
Tania and Laika live here, but Tina and Aerith are set to return to their own homes in a few days. We decided to keep them here for a little while longer just to be safe, especially since Granny Miranda is close by. This peaceful sight² won’t last forever, but their own homes are fully prepared for the new arrivals. I’d feel guilty monopolizing them.
For now, though, this is my exclusive privilege. I sat on the carpet with Momo and whispered to her.
”Look, Momo. It’s a total Peach Paradise, isn’t it? Just for you.”
”Pa… da?”
”Honestly, Master, what are you telling her? Please don’t teach Momo such strange puns,” Lily said, sitting down beside me with a sigh. I wasn’t trying to be weird; I just think a large vocabulary is a good thing, so I tend to say whatever is on my mind.
”Mama!” Momo cried.
”Yes, yes, Mama’s here,” Lily replied.
Unlike her other words, Momo says ‘Mama’ perfectly. She started squirming, so I handed her over to Lily. For the record, she can say ‘Papa’ just as well; she just doesn’t have to call for me because I’m always the one clinging to her.
”Mama! Ba! Ba!”
”No, Momo. That’s Wakaba. Wa-ka-ba,” Lily corrected.
”Wa… ka?”
”That’s right. There’s Wakaba, Mikan, Heine, Kaine, and Silva.”
”Ba!”
”Hehe. With so many of them, it’s going to be quite a handful,” Lily said.
”Ba?”
Momo pointed at the others while Lily gently lowered her hand. I guess the ‘don’t point’ lessons have already started. Lily is a kind soul, but she’s a strict mother when she needs to be.
”Maybe she thinks all babies are just called ‘ba’?” I asked.
”That’s a distinct possibility. Infants are fascinating,” Lily said.
”Everything is new to them. She’ll learn in time.”
Actually, I’d prefer if she grew up slowly. I want to enjoy this squishy, adorable phase forever. I poked Momo’s cheek while she was in Lily’s arms; she grabbed my finger with her tiny hand.
Then I had a terrifying thought. One day, this little girl will grow up and say, “I’m not bathing with Papa anymore!” or “Go away, Dad, you smell!” The future is a scary place. This past year went by in a flash, and I’m sure the rest will too. As I was getting sentimental, Momo gave my finger a sharp tug.
”Papa?”
”Yes! What is it, Momo? Papa’s right here!”
”Mama… ba?”
”Eh?”
”Mama… my… ba!”
Wait, did she mean ‘Mama’s baby’? Everyone else is holding a baby, but Lily is holding her. She doesn’t realize she’s a baby too. Kids have the strangest logic. As I struggled to explain it to her, Lily leaned in and whispered in my ear.
”What should we do, Papa? ♡”
”Huh?”
”Momo says she wants to see my baby. ♡ And I think it’s about time we gave her one… don’t you? ♡”
That sweet whisper and the hand on my knee were more than I could handle. I had to fight with everything I had not to pin her to the carpet right then and there.

She wears practical but light armor over a simple cloth tunic and short pants, highlighting her grace and agility. Her primary relationship is one of friendly senior-junior with Raika.
• Lily – the sl*ve and primary experiment subject for the magic shop, ‘Harvest.’ She has striking pink hair, Blue eyes, medium breasts, which the Protagonist associates with being ‘wanton’. She has a working knowledge of magic, which she kept hidden from the slave trader.
