Chapter 460 Ritual, Again

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

A few more days have passed since the meeting regarding monster breeding that was squeezed into the middle of my paternity leave. In the end, there are many things that won’t be understood until we actually start moving, so we’re just waiting for the research to progress. With that, I thought I would focus on my wives’ childbirth again, but…

 ”””Hum-ma-ma-ares-sama, Uu-gane-mara-ares-sama-“””

 ”””Waoooooooon! Wan-wan, Waoooooooon!”””

”””It is a day of joy! We need more booze! Let’s drink booze! Drink more!”””

Ah, it’s happening again. And on a scale exceeding the previous time with my love-elf Tania; the Elven reinforcements are here, the Merchant Guild Garou have joined the pack of dog-beastmen, the Badcage Duke family has joined the fray… my “Ddo-Buddy Mansion” has become a disaster zone.

Apparently, during that “Father-in-Law Assembly,” the sequence of events leading up to the birth of my beloved son Wakaba was shared. It probably spread via my love-dog Laika…

If that’s the case, Laika’s father Slop-shi started saying that dog-beastmen have Anzan Kigan¹ rituals too, and my love-wolf Aerith’s father Ouka-shi joined in, saying wolf-beastmen have similar rituals.

”If that’s the case, then in the Badcage Duke family as well…” While they don’t have a ritual, they do hold banquets, and the father of my dear lady Tina, Duke Roost, couldn’t keep quiet either.

As for Tail-shi, the father of Ray, his daughter isn’t even pregnant yet… or so it seemed, but the bond-forming fathers-in-law seem to be in high spirits, suggesting they pray for the safety of Ray’s journey as she returns to her territory for the monster breeding project, or even pray for her to get pregnant.

As a result, each camp competed to perform Anzan Kigan, pray for travel safety, pray for the continued increase of children, or pray for family safety-it turned into a mysterious festival where it felt like anything was fine as long as they could make a ruckus.

Ah, the Elven reinforcements? I don’t really get them, but they said they’d do anything for the sake of the siblings of Wakaba, who became their idol the moment he was born.

”Boy, it sure would be good if everyone is born safely.”

”Is it running a bit late over at Slop-dono’s place…? It wouldn’t be strange if it happened today or tomorrow; you must be on pins and needles.”

”Nah, there’s no use in me getting impatient. The important thing is not to let the anxiety spread to her.”

”…Wise words. I shall remember that for when my time comes.”

The fathers-in-law say such things while sharing drinks. Around them, those not participating in the prayers are similarly drinking booze, and food prepared from who-knows-where was being served.

Of course, they are using our kitchen, but I bet they brought their own ingredients. After all, dishes I’ve never seen in these parts, made of ingredients I don’t even recognize, are lined up one after another.

Probably Elf cuisine, beastman cuisine, or Badcage cuisine. Come to think of it, I surprisingly don’t know much about those. We have a cooking rotation at home, but it seems Tania and Laika had been making food that was quite human-ized.

That’s all well and good, but the problem is the sheer number of people… When I planned the mansion, I had it designed to be quite large since it would be a place where many people gather, but with this many people, it’s starting to feel cramped.

People are gathered mainly in the parlor, but those who can’t fit are overflowing into the garden, making a huge racket out there since the pregnant ladies aren’t in that area. But then, I’m worried about being a nuisance to the neighbors.

So, I went around to apologize in advance… but in times like this, the residents of the back-alley town/street have a great attitude. They started showing up with their own booze and food, saying they wanted to celebrate too.

 ”It’s quite lively, isn’t it?”

”No, ‘lively’ is putting it mildly…”

”Isn’t it great? They say they’ll celebrate Wakaba’s birth too.”

”Yeah, yeah, it’s better for celebrations and rituals to be flashy, right?”

”Um, I wonder if I’m out of place here…”

”Oh, not at all. It’s something you will experience eventually, Viscount-sama.”

”Mm-hmm, it’s all about the turn order. You can just think of it as a pre-celebration or a pre-prayer.”

”Nn, this mysterious Elf dish is delicious. I wonder how many kinds of herbs you have to mix to get a taste like this… Ah, do you want some too, Amelia?”

”Ah, I’ll have some, Satsuki-san. This Badcage dish is delicious too.”

”My, what a spectacle. It’s like an exhibition of cultures; if I were a researcher in that field, I’d be salivating. Flearis, aren’t there any ‘Pink Clan’ rituals?”

”Well, if my brother were here he would have happily participated, but in our house, curses were more popular than rituals… More importantly, Kushe-sama, your mouth is dirty.”

The female staff of our shop are all present as well. Aside from the members who live here or visit frequently, even Tina and Aerith, with their large bellies, are visiting after a long time.

A little worried, but it might be just right since not moving at all is also a problem. Above all, there’s no point without the guests of honor, and they themselves said they wanted to celebrate Wakaba’s birth. And as for that other guest of honor, Wakaba…

 ”Ba-ah, it’s sleepy time-“

 ”Fue, fueh…”

 ”””キャーッ! (Eeeek!)”””

While being humored by my beloved daughter Momo, he is being looked after by the Elven sisters. Or rather than being looked after, it’s more like he’s being worshipped as an idol…

I actually intended to evacuate him to the upper floor after showing his face for a bit, but Wakaba himself starts crying loudly if he leaves the parlor, so it ended up like this.

I wonder if it’s too noisy for him, but he’s sleeping quietly inside the Elf baby basket he received as a birth gift, showering lovability upon the people who come to see his face in turn. …His fan service is generous. Of course, there’s no way he actually knows what he’s doing.

By the way, the Elven sisters visit to see Wakaba’s face almost every day. The men show their faces every now and then, but they can’t compete with the enthusiasm of the Elder Sisters.

Wakaba is like the incarnation of cuteness despite being my son, but I was secretly worried that if I didn’t stop them somewhere, these affectionate Elven reinforcements might end up coming every day until he becomes an adult. Digression over.

 ”””Hum-ma-ma-ares-sama, Uu-gane-mara-ares-sama-“””

 ”””Waoooooooon! Wan-wan, Waoooooooon!”””

”””Drink up, ohhh, sing out! Let’s drink booze! Drink more!”””

The three different rituals-the Badcage territory ritual is completely just a drinking party-seemed to be mixing together into an uncontrollable mess, but somehow or another, it looks like the performance is nearing its end.

That said, this ritual is already on its fifth round or so, and the chaos has been increasing with every repetition. Participation seems to be free; people drinking nearby stand up and join the circle, while those who get tired leave the circle and start eating. Yeah, I don’t get the rules. I don’t get them, but they seem to be having fun, so I guess it’s fine.

 ”””Waaaaaaah!!!”””

Clap-clap-clap-clap. Having finished the tentative climax, cheers and applause erupt. Or so I thought, but the mysterious Elf drums resumed without a pause… Should I just join in too? I’m starting to feel like a fool just watching. I stood up to join the circle, but just then…

”Ah, Kento, I think I’m about to give birth.”

 ”Huh!?”

 ”Ah, Kento-san, me too.”

 ”Mu, Kento-dono, me as well.”

”Wait, why all at once!? I mean, show a bit more panic!?”

”””Well, because it’s probably a guaranteed easy birth (anzan) anyway”desu”nanoja.”

”The banquet is over!! Everyone, they’re being born!!”

 ”””””Wh-whaaat!?”””””

Does the Elf Anzan Kigan have some kind of labor-inducing effect? On this day, I ended up welcoming four new children… Ah, four isn’t a mistake, okay?

 —

 Summary:

Kento’s mansion becomes the site of a chaotic, multi-cultural festival as various fathers-in-law and allies perform safety rituals for upcoming births. Amidst the drinking, mysterious food, and elven chants, the shop’s female staff and the infant Wakaba join the crowd. The chapter ends abruptly when three of Kento’s wives simultaneously go into labor during the festivities.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The Elven reinforcements view Wakaba as a literal idol.

 - The Badcage ‘ritual’ is literally just an excuse to drink booze.

 - Kento’s neighbors from the back-alleys joined the party uninvited but with gifts.

 - Flearis mentions that her clan (Pink Clan) usually does curses rather than rituals.

 - There are actually four children expected at the end of the chapter, though only three wives are mentioned as speaking

 —

 Character Insight:

The fathers-in-law (Slop, Ouka, Roost, Tail) are bonding over their shared role, showing a rare moment of cross-species camaraderie. Kento continues to be the ‘straight man’ to the absurdity of his own household’s growth.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author uses the ‘Anzan Kigan’ (easy birth prayer) as a literal plot device to trigger simultaneous labor for comedic and dramatic effect.

 TL Notes:

She initially seemed ‘wasted’ (emotionally dry) to her friend Raika, but was easily introduced to the pleasure-items sold at ‘Harvest.’ She is easily embarrassed and attempts to maintain a dignified facade, despite her recent, frequent purchases. She wears practical but light armor over a simple cloth tunic and short pants, highlighting her grace and agility. Her primary relationship is one of friendly senior-junior with Raika.

• Amelia – A light blue-haired Sister of the Church of Demon-Subjugating and Kento’s shy harem member. A newly awakened “Saint” from Holy Sleep, modest and easily embarrassed with red ears and neck. Wears her habit and treasures Kento’s ring on a necklace.
