Volume 5 Chapter 9 Determination
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
(I wanted to get a new chapter out, but I’ve been feeling under the weather and just couldn’t pull it off. My deepest apologies.)
Last night, I finally got some time with Manami-san. I managed to draw out the passion hiding behind those cool eyes with some sweet kisses and careful caresses, and she really stepped up – leading the way with a proactive yet gentle touch. She looks younger than she used to, but she really is an adult at heart.
(Wait… that was just a daydream.)
I went home in a great mood yesterday, but on second thought, I realized I totally forgot to ask her for makeup tips for Ines and the others, and for Dietlinde-san. I need to make sure I don’t forget the next time we meet. Since Rei-san and Manami-san seem swamped with the shop opening, I might have to ask someone from the Yamato Nadeshiko party¹. Nanami, Hina, and Mai have already sorted out their cosmetic gifts, and Rin is way too quiet. I have other plans for Yumiko-san, so I think I’ll settle on Misaki-san. She seems kind enough that I’m sure it’ll be fine.
Dungeon dives finally resume today after being locked down for a full week. Most shops are probably running low on meat right about now, so I think I’ll supply a massive haul while making sure we keep enough for ourselves. I have my reasons for wanting to rake in the cash right now, so I’ll turn in as much as I can without drawing too much unwanted attention.
While meat is the main goal, I also need to grind some levels for Liese and Camilla. The twelfth floor is probably the best bet for high XP while staying safe. The spawns there are thirty percent Vipers and Bears, fifteen percent Orcs and Rock Lizards, and ten percent Cattle. Vipers and Rock Lizards love an ambush, but they’re easy enough to handle with detection skills, and nothing there spams wide-range magic. From a meat-gathering perspective, I’d actually prefer to hunt Orcs on the eleventh floor. Since this is the first run after the upheaval, let’s stick to the eleventh floor for the afternoon grind.
In the morning, we focused on hunting Sheep on the third floor. Since Camilla isn’t a vanguard², there’s no point dragging her through a Crawler grind on the first floor. Sheep are neutral until you hit them, but once they aggro, they’ll charge you down. Their horns aren’t particularly sharp and they lack any impact attributes, but it would still be dangerous for Liese or Camilla to take a direct hit.
As of yesterday, Camilla hit level nine, while Liese stayed at level fifteen. Since Dragonewts are a long-lived race, I feel like Camilla might actually overtake her soon. It’d be a pity for Liese to be surpassed by someone who joined the party after her, so I should take them out for some private leveling sessions occasionally. I’m thinking of leaving Camilla with Rin and Yumiko-san for a bit. She’s warmed up to Rin – though not as much as she has to me – and since Yumiko-san has experience raising kids, it should be a good fit. I want Camilla to socialize with people other than just me and Liese.
In the afternoon, we hit the eleventh floor for Orcs and Rock Lizards. Those lizards have a “Mimicry” skill, so if you don’t have a scout-type skill active, you’re asking to be blindsided. They have massive VIT but their other stats are garbage; you could basically say they’re a “Full-VIT” build. Physical attacks barely tickle them at the right level, making them a chore to kill, but magic – especially Wind Magic – shreds them. While their hide isn’t quite as versatile as standard Lizard skin, it can be processed into warrior-grade armor, so it should fetch a decent price.
Orcs, Rock Lizards, and Cattle each make up thirty percent of the floor, with Ropers making up the last ten. It’s not the most efficient Orc farm, but we keep at it anyway. By the end, we only bagged fifteen Orcs, but with fifty kills total, Camilla hit level ten. Liese is still at fifteen, but she’s knocking on the door of sixteen.
Just a side note: the Ropers on the ninth floor are a female adventurer’s worst nightmare – just in a different way than Orcs or Goblins. They don’t turn you into a “Seedbed,” but they’ll pin you down with tentacles and… well, do things to your entire body. The eleventh floor is a wide-open plain, so they’re easy to spot, but the ninth floor is a forest. Without detection skills, you’re in trouble. To top it off, there are Aphrodisiac Gas traps everywhere. It’s a truly nasty floor.
The Gale Party, the Yamato Nadeshiko crew, Vanessa, and the Beast Fang party are all way past the point where these things could threaten them, but newcomers like Nicola or the Wyvern Slayers are going to have a rough time. Maybe I should give Nicola – my “FWB (Provisional)” – something to help her out…
I returned to the Guild to turn in the day’s haul. I decided to keep three Orcs for ourselves. I’ve been wanting to try the Sheep meat too, so I kept three of those as well. My Item Box has infinite shelf life, so if we don’t like it, I can just sell it later. I couldn’t be bothered to butcher them myself, so I handed them over to the Guild for processing. While I was at it, I chatted with Isaac from the Dismantling Department. Since we’re close in age, we’re pretty informal with each other. It’s rare to have a guy friend like that.
”The ‘Dungeon Upheaval’ might be over, but the Guild still looks like a madhouse,” I said.
”Yeah, if anything, the real nightmare is just starting for the Dismantling Department,” said Isaac. “The backlog for materials is insane. We’re working through our days off.”
With the flood of monster parts coming in starting today, it’s only going to get crazier. I felt a little guilty, but there was no way I was doing the butchering myself. Even with a Level 10 Dismantling skill, the prep time would take longer than the actual dungeon dive. I’ll leave the heavy lifting to Isaac and his team.
”I’d help… well, maybe not, but hey, it’s all about the division of labor, right? Once things quiet down, I’ll take you out to a nice place. Hang in there,” I replied.
”Haha, I’ll hold you to that,” Isaac said.
Isaac took it as a polite gesture, but I was serious. Maybe Nora from “Daydream (BSS)” at the brothel? No, if I recommend someone and he gets obsessed, that’s on me. I’ll let him pick whoever he wants – besides Regina-san. Even if he picks Nora or Rita and falls for them, I can’t be held responsible. I’ll give him a fair warning, at least.
Even though my progress with Regina-san hasn’t quite succeeded yet, I plan on moving in together once it does. When that happens, living out of an inn isn’t exactly a good look, and not being able to shower before or after “the deed” is a major deal-breaker. Plus, I can’t exactly have Liese and Camilla in the same room while I’m busy with Regina-san. Now that I’m so close to finally reaching her, I need to get serious about buying a house. Actually, the decision to buy is already set in stone; the only question is which property.
The problem is, between my weekly trips to “Daydream (BSS)” and everything else, I don’t quite have the cash to buy a place outright. I also had to pay back the winnings from my duel with Gerta. For now, I’ll look for a rental and save up until I can afford to buy.
So, after leaving the dungeon, I stopped by a real estate office in the Capital. I’d asked at the Merchant Guild and they pointed me toward a firm that handles “mid-range properties.” Just like with the slave trader, choosing the “middle of the road” option might just be a habit from my old life.
”Hello there,” I said.
”Welcome. Welcome to the Callrausch merchant guild. How may we assist you today?” asked the receptionist.
As I walked in, a woman who looked human greeted me. She looked to be in her thirties. If this were a serious business deal, I should’ve made an appointment, but since I’m mostly just checking the market rates for now, I didn’t bother. Though, I might move into a rental as soon as possible.
”I’m looking into buying a house in the near future, so I’m here to get some info on properties and current rates. I’m also looking for a place to rent in the meantime,” I said.
”Understood. Please, follow me,” she replied.
She led me to a table shielded by partitions. A Soundproofing Magic Tool was active to prevent eavesdropping. Once we get to the actual contract stage, we might use a private room, but this was plenty for now. Liese and Camilla stood silently behind me.
”Forgive me, but do you happen to have a letter of recommendation?” she asked.
”The Merchant Guild told me this should suffice. Is it okay?” I asked.
Generally, real estate is more expensive than slaves, so even for a Transferee, you usually need a recommendation to buy. However, I’d heard that for a B-Rank adventurer, simply showing your Guild Card is enough.
”…Confirmed. You are Daisuke-sama, a B-Rank adventurer. My apologies for the late introduction – my name is Benedicta. It is a pleasure to work with you,” she said.
”Likewise,” I replied.
Just as I’d heard, the Guild Card did the trick. I’m just a B-Rank adventurer – which basically just means I have “some status” – but moments like this really make you realize the weight that brand carries.
”First, could you tell me what you’re looking for?” she asked.
”Sure. The purchase is a bit further out, but I’m looking for a fairly large estate. It doesn’t have to be right in the city center,” I said.
”When you say fairly large, specifically how many rooms are we talking about?” she asked.
”Let’s see… excluding the living room and other shared spaces, I’d like seven rooms,” I replied.
If the three members of the Gale Party end up moving in later, that’d be me, Liese, Camilla, and Regina-san, plus them – seven people. Clarissa-san and Dietlinde-san probably have their own places, and I’m not that close with the other Transferee girls yet. Gerta is a no-go for now because of Camilla, and Vanessa and Nicola are strictly “friends with benefits.”
”I see. For a property like that, the market rate is usually between four hundred and five hundred gold coins. Of course, the price fluctuates based on the condition and location, so you’d really have to see them for yourself,” she said.
As expected of the Capital – unbelievably expensive. I’m going to have to get serious about earning.
”Fair enough. As for the rental, I’d like something a bit closer to the city center with about three rooms. I’d also like a bath or a shower – or if that’s too much to ask, at least a dedicated bathroom,” I said.
”A bath or shower in a rental is difficult, but for a place with a bathroom, you’re looking at about one gold coin per month,” she replied.
My current inn is a double room with no bath and a shared toilet for three copper coins a day. Moving to a place with its own bathroom for that price isn’t a bad deal at all. I could definitely stay there while I build up my savings.
”Got it. Do you have any rentals available for immediate move-in?” I asked.
”As a matter of fact, we have these two right here. I could show them to you as early as tomorrow afternoon, if you’re interested?” she asked.
She pointed out the general locations on a map. One was about as close to the center as my current inn, and the other was just a bit further out. I’d just come back from the dungeon and it was already evening, so a viewing today was out of the question.
”Tomorrow afternoon works for me,” I said.
”Understood,” she replied.
I booked the viewing for the next day and stepped out of the Callrausch merchant guild. Five hundred gold coins… if I really went all out, I could probably make that in a week, but that would be way too suspicious. Let’s aim for a month.
Luckily, there are plenty of “high-value” targets like Golems, Minotaurs, and Orc Generals, so making bank shouldn’t be hard. Minotaurs and Orc Generals are out of reach for anyone below C-Rank, so they fetch a premium. Plus, with my massive Item Box, I can haul every single kill back. Until now, I’ve held back on selling – not just to stay under the radar, but to avoid crashing the market – but right after the upheaval when demand is so high, I don’t have to worry about the latter. I should probably treat Isaac to a decent meal before we hit the brothel.
Come to think of it, I’ve been giving the inn Orc and Minotaur meat to save on room and board, but a Minotaur sells for way more than that, even after butchering fees. I’m not going to ask for a refund now, but man, what a waste. Between that, date money, gear upgrades, and maintenance, I guess that’s why I’m not as rich as I should be despite how much I hunt.
With a brand-new determination to rake in the cash and buy that house, I made my way back to the inn.

Summary:
Following the Dungeon Upheaval, Daisuke returns to the grind to capitalize on the meat shortage in the Royal Capital. He shifts his focus from simple survival to domestic stability, seeking a large private residence to house his growing household and upcoming relationship with Regina. The chapter concludes with him realizing the significant financial hurdle ahead and making a firm commitment to high-efficiency hunting.
—
Trivia:
- The mention of ‘Dragonewts playing the long game’ hints at a potential lifespan discrepancy between Liese and Camilla that might cause future emotional tension.
- Daisuke’s reluctance to dismantle his own prey despite his level 10 skill emphasizes his transition from a ‘worker’ mindset to a ‘managerial’ one.
- The soundproofing magic tools at the merchant guild suggest that high-end real estate transactions in the capital are prone to espionage or sensitive political maneuvering.
- Daisuke’s concern about crashing the market by overselling foreshadows potential economic power plays or guild interference if he isn’t careful
—
Character Insight:
Daisuke’s motivation has evolved from simple pleasure-seeking to a desire for ‘ownership’ and stability. His informal friendship with Isaac provides a rare male-bonding moment in an otherwise female-dominated social circle. Meanwhile, his protective stance over Camilla’s social development shows a more paternal side emerging.
—
Lore And Worldbuilding Context:
The chapter expands on the B-Rank adventurer’s social standing, which serves as a reliable ‘credit score’ for high-value transactions. It also introduces the Roper as a forest-floor ecological trap designed to exploit female adventurers, emphasizing the ‘perverted’ nature of certain dungeon floors.
—
TL Notes:
The author explicitly notes that the internal economy (gold coin logic) is inconsistent (‘gaba-gaba’), necessitating a translation that focuses on the character’s feeling of expense rather than technical financial accuracy.

Though distant, she silently admires Daisuke—his quiet care, recovery magic, and thoughtful gifts offering rare solace; she greets him with warm professionalism, her unspoken worry for his safety deepening her quiet affection, while she soothes herself with calming scents and longs for unattainable cosmetics, a fragile beauty hidden beneath duty’s weight.
• Misaki – 165 cm tall, standard build, semi-long hair, thick chest armor; calm, kind older-sister aura. A D-Rank Level 21+ wind-enhanced swordsman, she speaks formally with “sumanai,” drinks lightly for safety, and overheats at praise, blushing and pouting easily.
