Volume 5 Chapter 8 Request Completed!

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

We kicked off the next day on the seventh floor. I’d run into spiders with poison and paralysis here before, so I planned to stay sharp. I figured I could probably keep Liese and Camilla with me until we hit the tenth.

The seventh floor was a forest field. The novelty had long since worn off, so we pushed through the shortest route possible. Since Camilla was still a low level, I carried her while we moved. Liese had to run to keep up, but we managed some light small talk on the fly.

”I wonder what kind of monsters live in this area?” I asked. “I can feel them nearby, but I can’t catch a glimpse of them.”

”The forest is too full of life; I can’t isolate their scents. I am deeply sorry, Master,” Liese replied.

”It’s not your fault, Liese. Don’t worry about it.”

I spotted a few small animals darting through the brush, nothing dangerous. I wasn’t looking closely, but there were likely medicinal herbs tucked away as well. While the forests outside are safer for gathering low-grade ingredients, it’s much more efficient to harvest high-grade stuff inside the dungeon. I assume the population stays fairly stable, regardless of how much we pick.

(Master.)

”Liese, did you call me?” I asked, stopping in my tracks.

”No, that wasn’t me,” Liese said, looking back.

I’d heard it clearly-it sounded exactly like her. Since Liese had heard it too, it wasn’t just my imagination. A monster? I narrowed my Presence Detection and caught a trace nearby. The trees were in the way, so I fired off a random Wind Magic bolt. The culprit finally fluttered into view.

(Master! Master!)

It was a bird with a body of brilliant, vivid green. My Appraisal identified it as a Parrot-or an oumu in Japanese. Since they’re known for mimicking speech, it made sense that it was copying Liese’s voice. Its stats were roughly on par with the sixth floor, but it possessed Vocal Mimicry and Surprise Attack.

Its combat style was clever: use a familiar voice to distract or stop a target, then dive in for the kill. It was a tricky creature; a first-timer at the recommended level might actually get caught off guard. Still, I didn’t have time to play around. I finished it off and got back to the survey.

* * *

We kept up the pace and managed to clear everything up to the tenth floor by noon. The eighth floor was a forest field populated by Toads; the ninth was more forest with Ropers; and the tenth was a maze field full of Cattle.

”The number of edible monsters is definitely on the rise,” I noted.

 ”It certainly is,” Liese replied.

While they weren’t quite at the Minotaur level, Cattle were delicious.

Liese gave me a stoic answer, but her eyes lit up.

As a fellow meat-lover, she was clearly thrilled about the new menu options.

The maze was a bit of a surprise, but it wasn’t as jarring as the plains or the woods.

Unlike the natural caves, these were artificial, clean-cut passages.

The visibility was better, which made surprise attacks less likely, but the lack of cover meant finding a safe spot to rest would be a headache.

I suppose an indoor-style field is more practical for a tenth-floor Boss Room.

As expected, the boss was there waiting.

I wasn’t at a level where I’d struggle with it anymore.

If I’d had the time, I might have played matador for a while, but I just took its head off and ended it.

* * *

I was worried about potential accidents from the eleventh floor onward, so I sent Liese and Camilla back to the inn and finished the survey alone. It was only for the afternoon, so Camilla didn’t pout too much. Here are the results:

 * Floor 11 (Plains): Orcs and Rock Lizards.

 * Floor 12 (Plains): Vipers and Bears.

 * Floor 13 (Forest): Killer Bees and Trents.

 * Floor 14 (Forest): Vampire Bats and Guardian Ants.

 * Floor 15 (Cave): Golems and Skeleton Generals.

About half the roster was the same as before, but the rest had been shuffled.

The fourteenth floor was the outlier-both the Ghoul and the Jack Frost had been “laid off.” Maybe they weren’t popular enough? The Guardian Ant carapaces make for great armor, so that floor will probably see a lot more traffic now.

Also, as usual, monsters from up to two floors prior can appear, so you could face up to six different species at once.

The ones from two floors back show up so rarely that they usually ambush you right when you’ve forgotten they exist.

I’ll have to keep my guard up.

* * *

Only B-Rank adventurers are allowed on the sixteenth floor and below, so it wasn’t officially part of my request. However, since I’d already cleared the fifteenth-floor boss, I decided to take a quick look. If it turned out to be a good spot for Liese or Camilla to grind, I wanted to know.

Descending from the fifteenth floor, I found the sixteenth was another forest field.

At this depth, there’s a high chance monsters have the Mana Sensing skill, which makes detection-type skills a liability.

I relied on Intuition, Presence Detection, and Danger Sense instead.

Using Concealment, I crept up on a pair of nearby monsters-a Minotaur and an Orc General.

Both looked like they’d provide some excellent cuts of meat.

Since there was no one else around, I hunted them quickly and called it a day.

I’d gone well above and beyond the Guild’s orders; I doubted anyone would complain.

* * *

I headed back to the Guild to file my report. Apparently, the Guild Master wanted to hear it personally, so I didn’t get to be alone in a room with Dietlinde-san. Instead, I was ushered into the Guild Master’s office with several other officials.

”I see. The ecosystem has shifted quite a bit,” she said.

”Yes. The first and second floors have actually gotten easier, but overall, the difficulty remains about the same,” I explained.

”I agree. Now that we have a clear picture, we’ll aim to reopen the dungeon tomorrow. Thank you for your cooperation, Daisuke.”

 ”Don’t mention it,” I said.

The report went smoothly, and I made my exit.

Between the food supply and the valuable monster drops, this was a net positive for the Guild.

Of course, new monsters mean new butchering techniques and new wholesale contracts, so the logistics will be a nightmare.

But that’s for the Guild staff to worry about.

I don’t have a shop or any real political pull, so sticking my nose in would only make it worse.

I’ll just have to buy Isaac from the Dismantling Department a drink sometime; that man always looks like he’s one bad day away from a total meltdown.

* * *

As I walked through the hall, I spotted Rei-san, Manami-san, Aya, and the rest of the Yamato Nadeshiko crew. Aside from Mizuki, who was at the Temple, and Sakura, who was out of town, the whole group of transferees was there.

 ”Hey everyone,” I called out.

”Ah, Daisuke-kun! You have to hear this!” Rei said, her voice dripping with irritation.

I could tell I was about to get a face-full of grievances.

 ”Did something happen?” I asked.

”I was just in a meeting with this guy claiming to be an envoy from the Empire-“

According to a very pissed-off Rei, they’d been scouted. The envoy told them that in the “meritocratic” Empire, they wouldn’t have to be “unstable adventurers” like they were here in Maultasche; they’d be given high-ranking positions.

Apparently, a Hero Party had even immigrated there years ago. If he’d stopped there, it might have been a tempting offer, but the envoy then dismissed Rei’s Maid Cafe and Manami’s Cat Cafe as “useless nonsense.” He told them they should stop playing house and become military assets for the Empire’s war machine.

Naturally, Rei and Manami told him where to stick it, and the rest of the girls followed suit for their own reasons. At that point, the envoy-who had at least been pretending to be a professional-completely lost it. “To reject such a generous offer… you have no idea how the real world works! You’ll regret this when it’s too late!” he’d screamed, kicked a chair, and stormed out.

He’d only been “polite” on the surface, anyway. From the start, his constant praising of the Empire while badmouthing Maultasche had been incredibly grating. As a recruiter, he was a total disaster. I’d heard the Empire’s talent shortage was dire ever since that incident twenty years ago, and it seems the rumors were true.

”That sounds like a nightmare,” I said. “Why did the rest of you turn him down, though?”

”Nanami-chan hates the cold, you know?” Nanami said with a shrug.

”I don’t really want to go if Nanami isn’t going,” another added.

”I’ve just started my apprenticeship with an Alchemist,” Aya said. “The military isn’t for me.”

”Places with lots of snow are… a lot of work,” Hina added.

”The culture just doesn’t sit right with me,” one of the others said.

”No reason for me to go if nobody else is!” someone else chimed in.

 ”…Slaves,” Rin whispered.

I could see that everyone had their own logic. Rin’s answer was the only one that felt heavy.

”Rin, were you worried they’d treat you like a slave?” I asked.

”…No. They just treat their slaves poorly,” Rin replied.

 ”Ah. I see.”

I’d heard that outside Maultasche, the treatment of slaves was barbaric. For Rin, who had been so heartbroken over what happened to Camilla, she wouldn’t want to live in a place where that was the status quo.

”They haven’t approached you yet, Daisuke-kun, but keep your guard up!” Rei warned.

 ”I will.”

I have no intention of leaving, but I wonder if it’s a mistake to just kick them out without listening. Then again, if I’m not going, it doesn’t really matter. If they’re foreign nobles, it could be a hassle, but a noble wouldn’t come in person. Probably just an intelligence officer. I’ll deal with it if they show up.

”By the way, I have a gift for Manami-san and Aya. Would you like them?”

 ”What is it?” Manami asked.

 ”For me too?” Aya added.

Since it’s hard to catch these two, I figured I’d hand over the cosmetics now.

”They’re cosmetics that dropped in the dungeon.”

”Oh, thank you! Rei mentioned you had some,” Manami said.

”These look incredibly expensive… are you sure I can have this?” Aya asked, hesitating.

”It’s fine. I’ve given them to everyone else, too.”

”Of course, we’ll make sure to pay you back!” Rei added.

”What kind of ‘thanks’ am I looking at?” I joked.

”You’re getting a ‘Special Invitation’ to the Maid Cafe!” Rei said with a wink.

”I’ll let you do the commentary for the Martial Arts Tournament!” one of the girls shouted.

”I’ll escort you to the Temple and put in a good word with Mizuki,” another offered.

”Nanami-chan gave him a kiss~!” Nanami teased, blowing me a kiss.

I couldn’t tell how serious she was being, but she was definitely adorable.

”A kiss!? That’s… a bit much,” Aya said, looking flustered.

”No, no, I’m not going to force anyone to do that!” I said quickly. “The others are still thinking it over, so you can take your time, too.”

Aya looked shaken, but she didn’t lose her cool entirely.

”I-I see. In that case, I’ll pay you back with a potion someday. I can’t do it right now, but I promise it’ll be worth more than these cosmetics.”

”I’m with Rei; I’ll invite you to my shop,” Manami added.

 ”Thank you.”

Aya’s return gift was probably years away. It was the same for the others; since cosmetics are consumables, I wanted to give them out regularly, but I didn’t want them to stress over the ‘debt’ every time. In that sense, Rei and Manami’s invitations were much easier to accept.

”When are your shops opening, anyway?” I asked.

”Ten days for me!” Rei said.

”And twelve for me,” Manami added.

”Great. Mind if I drop by on opening day?”

 ”I’d love that!” Rei said.

”I don’t mind either,” Manami agreed.

With the dates set, I left the Guild feeling pretty good.

 Summary:

Daisuke completes a multi-floor dungeon survey, documenting monster shifts and the tactical layout for the Guild. Upon returning, he finds the ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’ group dealing with a hostile diplomatic recruitment attempt by an Imperial envoy. The chapter concludes with Daisuke distributing cosmetic gifts to the girls, strengthening his social bonds and securing invitations to their upcoming business openings.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The Parrot monster’s mimicry highlights the increasing psychological lethality of the dungeon’s middle floors.

 - Rin’s visceral reaction to the Empire’s slave treatment suggests her character arc is deeply tied to abolitionist sentiment.

 - The Imperial talent shortage hint suggests the Empire is desperate for high-tier power, possibly setting up a future invasion or forced conscription arc

 —

 Character Insight:

Daisuke moves from a protector role in the dungeon to a diplomatic benefactor in the Guild. His relationship with the ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’ members shifts from mere acquaintances to welcome business patrons, evidenced by Rei and Manami’s enthusiastic invitations to their shop openings.

 —

 Lore And Worldbuilding Context:

The concept of ‘marketable’ monster drops vs. food sources is expanded, showing the economic side of dungeoneering. The Empire’s meritocratic but militaristic culture is contrasted with Maultasche’s more relaxed adventurer society.

 TL Notes:

The author used ‘リストラ’ (restructuring/layoff) to describe the removal of monsters from the dungeon roster, a humorous corporate metaphor preserved in the translation.

Notes:

• Camilla – 14-year-old fox-type beastkin, ~140 cm, thin, fluffy tail, twitching ears, wearing accessories. Formerly Gerta’s slave, rescued after a wolf attack and dungeon upheaval; revived and now works as a porter. Illusionist with Illusion & Fire magic, high INT/MND. Deeply attached to Daisuke, calls him “Master,” seeks his scent, fears abandonment, and clings to his affection.

• Liese – Dragonewt girl, 16, grey‑blue hair, thick horns, grey scales on neck and limbs, 170 cm tall, thin chest, tail that thumps when excited. Calls Daisuke ‘Master’, loves meat, trained at Grünewald guild (Level 15), serves as his loyal vanguard and porter, finishing blows while Camilla uses magic. Greets him formally on return.

• Dietlinde – Dietlinde, a slender sheep-beastwoman with white curly hair and tiny horns, serves as the composed yet exhausted receptionist at the Maultasche Royal Capital Adventurer’s Guild, her noble poise masked by low self-esteem despite her beauty and competence. Clad in quiet elegance, her low-heel clicks echo through the guild halls as she endures the strain of the Dungeon Upheaval, maintaining professional grace under relentless duty. Though distant, she silently admires Daisuke—his quiet care, recovery magic, and thoughtful gifts offering rare solace; she greets him with warm professionalism, her unspoken worry for his safety deepening her quiet affection, while she soothes herself with calming scents and longs for unattainable cosmetics, a fragile beauty hidden beneath duty’s weight.

• Daisuke – Mid-40s Japanese reincarnated adventurer, B-Rank with high AGI/DEX, wears a ten-year-old watch and Radiant Iron gear. He wields Healing, Fire, Ground Shrink, Flash Move, Mental Memory and massive Item Box. Mentor to Liese, Camilla, Rin; dates Ines; pursues Regina at brothel Daydream; leads a household, cares for slaves, avoids the spotlight, and explores the continent.

• Isaac – A young man in the Adventurer’s Guild Dismantling Department, of average build and unremarkable features, works alongside peers close in age to Daisuke; he is overburdened by Henrietta’s demands and the pressures of the recent Dungeon Upheaval.

• Manami – Leemans, a sharp‑eyed former office worker and Working Women Party member, now a dedicated Tamer who retired to open a cat café. A transferee of ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’, she looks younger than expected, has cool eyes, and a proactive yet gentle demeanor. She bonds with party allies and future patrons while caring for cats with elegant poise.

• Mizuki – 165 cm tall, standard‑built girl with long hair, wearing modest chest armor and speaking politely; reincarnated as a Saint‑class high‑school student and JK Party member, highly formal and pious, despising vanity. She bravely confronts slave abuse, earns respect by defending the vulnerable, and often joins the protagonist’s circle at the temple, aligning with Nanami’s party. Her location is known to the protagonist.

• Sakura – Reincarnated high‑school girl, Destroyer class, 160 cm slender with twin‑tails, perpetual scowl, thin chest armor and a short‑hair yankee style. Former JK Party member, once double‑dated Hero Shouta and Holy Knight Takumi, openly disliked by the protagonist and at odds with Daisuke. Now Otto’s supportive girlfriend, part of the Hero Party’s entourage, aiming to climb nobility by marrying into the party; their “stupid couple” dynamic is affectionate yet antagonistic.

• Aya – Standing 165 cm tall, slender with long hair and a flat chest, she wears simple, armor‑free attire — clean, prudent, serious. An apprentice alchemist and former pharmacist, she serves the Working Women Party and the Leemans Party, handling store‑location data. A Yamato Nadeshiko transferee, she appears in the protagonist’s delusions as his lover.

• Rei – 155 cm tall, standard‑built member of the Working Women Party with twin‑tails, thick chest armor and a bright, high‑energy aura. She wields Rainbow Raiment to brighten allies, is a former corporate employee and hobbyist cosplayer known for teasing comedy routines and dreaming of a maid café. Now a Japanese transferee and leader of ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’, she runs a maid café, received a cosmetics set from Daisuke, and is a close friend and sought‑after advisor for the protagonist.

• Mai – 175 cm tall, toned and athletic, she dons thick chest armor and a single ponytail, giving a slightly masculine look. War Saint Vanguard of the Working Women Party and Leemans member — former gym instructor, adventure lover, brisk speaker — also in the transferee party, recalling martial‑arts tournament knowledge from a past life.

• Nanami – 165 cm slender high‑school girl with short hair and modest chest armor, nicknamed Mermaid for her underwater diving skill. She’s a stealth‑class transferee in the all‑female JK Party and a member of ‘Yamato Nadeshiko’, playful and flirtatious. She befriends peers to gather intel, slips into school life, and famously kissed Daisuke on the cheek while teasing him.

• Hina – 160 cm tall, muscular, beautiful girl‑knight with a ponytail and thin chest armor, exuding an honest, serious aura. Reincarnated as an Instant Swordswoman high‑schooler, she’s level‑headed, fiercely protective of Mizuki (ex‑basketball club member of the JK Party) and the straight‑man to Nanami’s antics. Yet in the transferee party she’s clumsy, shy, easily embarrassed, and blurts her thoughts.

• Rin – Tall, large‑breasted B‑rank adventurer with long shaggy hair and thick chest armor, exuding a cool‑beauty façade. Quiet and blunt, she uses ice magic for first aid, shields Camilla, feels indebted to a rescued beast‑man child, dominates Daisuke’s group, belongs to “Yamato Nadeshiko”, and is sensitive to slave mistreatment.
